  1. Don't need a reminder on MiLB prospects. I was watching the Twins through the Eddie Bane and Willie Banks years....
  2. No doubt the Twins will miss Dozier's bat. However, with the infield prospects the Twins have, the Twins should try to shop Dozier around. Personally, I've always liked Jorge Polanco more at 2nd than SS. I've read mention about Nick Gordon being ready/almost for the MLB. Gordon has played at SS in the MiLB most of the time, however, I just read the Strib article that says Gordon has been play 2nd more. Sounds like a "keep your options open" kinda deal. Polanco at 2 and Gordon at SS. I like it.
  3. If anyone would be really concerned about Miguel's weight, I would think it would be his agents. Where the heck is Roc Nation?
  4. When I first read scouting reports on Gonsalves, all I could see was your classic junk-ball pitcher. With a fastball that's sitting around 91 to 94 mph, that's a pleasant surprise. Adding a cutter/slider is an excellent move. I don't like the return of Gibson at all. I'd like to see Twins management put Gonsalves in the 5 slot early this year.
  5. I don't believe the Twins offer was ever considered by Davish's agents: it was a means to an end. Re: get other, richer teams to bump up their offerings. Hey, at least the Twins were in the national conversation for a change. I'd like to see Falvey and Levine go after Archer hard and one of Cole, Cobb, Lynn, Odorizzi or Tillman. I'm betting F & L would be looking at short, 2 year contracts. With the current lineup and Gonsalves, Romero, Jorge, Jay, and Stewart on the horizon, I'm still optimistic on the Twins near future. Overall, I'm OK with what Falvey and Levine have done in 1 year. Now, what else have you got?
  6. What I've read here on Twins Daily is a scenario where a team is at or near the salary cap and need to clear space. i.e. a team trades a high end contract for a Hughes-type contract. It would give the other team space to sign another or 2 players. Anyway, I think that's the way it works
  7. Is Chris Archer the Twins best chance for a starter? Too much competition? Anyway, I'd be shopping for probably 3 starter this off-season. I hope Santana comes back strong, but you never know. I don't see a real reason to hang onto Gibson. He's kind of a 'meh' to me. The Hughes contract should be trade-able. Don't know what we'd get, player-wise. I just don't like him using up the roster spot.
  8. Just my thoughts.... I don't like keeping Gibson around any longer. I think we can do better. Although I question the Rays use in the past 4 years, I'd definitely take a shot at Archer. Reduce his innings from 200+ to around 180 and get his legs back under him. After that I'd try to sign Cobb and/or Garcia. Of the 3, I believe Archer is the only one with a contract. If a couple starters in the MiLB are ready during the season, well, there could be room.
  9. I like the idea. But I think the Twins would have to try and get Greinke's contract re-negotiated. If I'm reading this correctly, $138.5M over 4 yrs. is still due to Greinke. $34.5M per year, I guess. I think the D-Backs would listen.
  10. Never heard of him. What position does he play?
  11. Tough call. And, maybe not In the field, I believe the Twins are ready to complete. In the starting rotation, I'd like to see some cleansing. And at least 2 new faces: Arrieta on a "show me" type contract (1 yr. + 2nd guarantee based on 1st yr. performance ) and a similar contracts for 1 or 2 others (Garcia and Tillman?? ). Need some space? Sure, got 3 in mind: Hughes, Gibson, May. Buy out contracts where needed, trade if possible ( yeah, made myself laugh on that one ) but the truth is, only one has a chance of being a .500 pitcher. Hughes latest injury is probably a career ender, May still has that lower back problem and Gibson has never really been more than staff filler with a 5 ERA that past 2 years. And then there's Ervin. Last year was fantastic. What's next? Getting a reasonable return on a Dozier trade would be very helpful.
  12. Fun discussion! Some names here I've never heard of before!
  13. Goin is gone and Levine and Falvey are taking over the Analytics Department? Guess I've missed a lot.
  14. First, let me say I like Dozier. I don't really see a downside to him. However, I think it's time to embrace the future. I like Polanco far better at 2nd than short. Dozier is still young, affordable and productive. Dozier should be worth something more than LA was offering last year. It is a pretty unique thing for the Twins that they have the option to trade a guy like Dozier and back-fill it's MiLB system with new talent. Or, I could be wrong :-)
  15. I believe this team is really on the cusp of year to year contending. I'm not sure now is the time to spend big often. I'd like to see a bit more of the MiLB talent and moving more of the mediocre vets out of the way. Please move Gibson and Hughes. May should get another shot, due to injury.
  16. Nolan Ryan, Randy Johnson, Ervin Santana. Just a brief example of how long some in the era of modern medicine and training, being over 30 doesn't mean that much in athletics anymore. I'm all for signing Darvish, but would like to see the latest medical report on him. The turn around to a legit contender could happen quickly if: 1. The Twins could pickup another quality pitcher, leave/clear a spot for an upside MiLBer to prove their worth/get MLB experience. 2. Remove under-producing pitching from team [i.e. no more wishing they'll either become great or competent] 3. The current on-field ensemble improves even more over last season's breakout. Asking for too much??
  17. I don't think Darvish along get's the Twins fully over the hump. Just a gut feeling. I would absolutely love to see Mejia or Gonsalve or another MiLBer step up to some MLB experience. I'm also looking at how much longer Santana can be reliable. The clock is ticking......
  18. I liked Polanco far better at 2nd...
  19. "$100-110 million for 7 years or $80-90 million for 6 " I'm in the IDK Camp. I'd like to see another year of improvement at the plate to seal the deal. But you can't ignore the improvements at the plate over the years. If Buxton's improvement continues next season, he could be a very sought after commodity around the All Star Break. Twins have got to resign him, that's a given.
  20. I don't see the Twins releasing Joe. Remember, it was on upper management's orders that Molitor gave Joe more rest. Seemed to workout OK. And I just don't see Joe wanting to play for any other team.
  21. IMHO: It's not quite time to invest too heavily in FA's. I'd like to first see what happens to Buxton and Kepler this year. Buxton took a big step decent size step at the plate last year, ignoring the 150k's for the time being. Defense: still elite. Kepler: I leave that to Tom. http://twinsdaily.com/_/minnesota-twins-news/minnesota-twins/will-max-kepler-take-the-next-step-in-2018-r6305 I'm still looking on the upside. If Sano stays healthy and Buxton and Kepler keep trending up, only then would I consider any highly prized pitcher. But that's just me, I'm a cheapskate
  22. Don't know how to really put this, but here goes anyway: Looking at a small sample size of 2 videos [OK, just being too lazy to look it up :-) ] is Duke's use of the side-arm delivery vs. lefties screwing the stats? Hey, teach Duke how to throw a screwball against righties!
  23. Napoli: Player / coach?? Not really sure how that works......
  24. Same here on Vargas. He just hasn't shown me enough. That, and he's now 27 yrs. old. I think he'd be better off trying on some other AL team.
