    If I remember the commentary from the Twins - Indians games, they were giving Gimenez credit for his work with the Indians' younger pitchers. Trevor Bauer, specifically. Maybe an omen that Falvey and Levine will be promoting more young pitchers?? Hope so!

    So, Tonkin and Haley are in. Seems like being on the 40 man roster was something of an influence on the decision. Tonkin is 27. Last opportunity? Let's see if the Twins use him in a Juan Berenguer - type role. He just never seemed to be a real "pressure guy" to me. Haley, I don't know anything about him, other than the afore mentioned 40 man roster. So, what happens to Tyler Jay now? And it sounds like they'll need to clear space for both ByungHo Park [definitely] and Chris Gimenez [maybe, maybe not].

    I think if people look at some of the latest SP lineups, I think you'd see some integration of analytics in them and less of the "traditional" lineups. Step away from the cliff. Baby steps.

    I like this lineup configuration. Almost looks like something a sabermetric type guy would create.

    Just watching the way he moved behind the plate in SP showed how big of an upgrade Castro was. Limit his AB's against lefties: Universal agreement on that, me thinks!

    "The Fast Track" is the verbiage used by Twins management last week. And I agree. If this means Jay will be the 1st call in from the bullpen and can get 2-3 innings in, I like it. Some/many teams use that format to stretch out RP's and turn them into SP's. Sorry, Cardinals are the only team I can think of just now. I was actually hoping the Twins would have done the same thing with Berrios, but he chose the WBC over SP with the Twins. I'm not criticizing the choice. I just think it would have been better for his career to be in Spring Training. P.S. Jay still needs to get a reliable 3rd pitch....

    I would have no consternation in the Twins dropping Tonkin. 95mph fastball is all he really has. One last time to look at guys like Wimmer, then really start rebuilding next year. Castro was a nice/needed start. I also have no consternation with any Rule 5 or late season FA pickup. Spot holders, at best. Spring Training fodder, at worst. I'm waiting to see next years plan from Flavey and Levine. Anyway, I think these Twins are somewhere between the 2015 / 2016 versions. The difference will be: Terry Ryan would view that as a success / Flavey will view that as a first step.

    1. Hughes: the contract. 2. After having Allen working with Berrios on his windup IN the MLB at the end of last season, I think being with the Twins and Allen in Spring Training is more important to Berrios career than playing in the WBC. Then again, I can't hardly criticizes Berrios too much for wanting to play in the WBC. The excitement in that series is intoxicating!

    If Buxton get's even close to a Torii Hunter level, it'll be a successful year.

    However, after the 1st inning, you potentially have Buxton coming to bat with Castro on base. A catcher. In his career: 5 SB 2 CS. You'd have a better chance moving Castor up the order behind Park and set up a potential run of Kepler, Rosario and Polanco ahead of Buxton.

    Are we surprised? Buxton has been swinging for the fences since he was a kid. Molitor is just facing the facts: go with a power package and get some OBP with speed in-front of him. My only concern is speed. Not Buxton's but the guys that may endup in front of him. I have these images in my head of the firstbase coach holding Buxton at 1st because Grossman hadn't rounded 2nd yet

    Not sure that Chargois is a big pressure guy. If I remember correctly, when he was called up last year he had a terrible start, but righted himself. If Spring Training was longer or JT had more chances, would he have righted himself again?

    Tonkin gone. Please. Vargas sealed his fate when he signed on with Pueto Rico and sat on the bench. Same with Berrios. He REALLY should have been in the Twins camp. Last year, Park had issues with MLB pitching, which was to be expected. He also had an injury. Healthy again and with some MLB experience, he looks to me to be the sole DH/1st base option. Grossman as the left-handed alternative. Isn't it time to move on from DanSan? He had one really good year filling in at CF. Next year, management decided to start him at SS. Bad management? IDK, but as others have said, Twins need some defensive improvements. Castro signing will prove to be a huge benefit to the pitchers.

    I really liked the little I saw in Pressly this spring. He's shortened up his delivery some and was quicker to the plate. I see him taking over the closer role and Kintzler getting traded, hopefully after a repeat of last years success. I know, sounds counter-intuitive, but that's how I roll: Look towards the future and quit dragging it out with guys like Hughes and Gibson. If Santiago needs more innings, fine. But I don't see him as part of the future, either. I'm with you on Duffey, too.

    With his potential flexibility, I can see Haley having a role IF it's deemed that 1 or 2 of the younger guys need more MiLB time. And, yeah, I'm staring right at Berrios. He needed to be getting innings with the Twins, not riding the bench with Puerto Rico. Just my humble opinion, of course.
