  1. WAR is one of the Sabermetrics that I feel has more use in the "wrap up" paragraph on a team's scouting report than it does in real life. WHIP is the one where I ask: why the hell haven't we been doing this before? It makes a lot of sense in judging pitcher.
  2. "Meyer’s stuff looked crisp. Could he be making his Twins debut this weekend?" I think I'd like to see how A.J. Achter does first. At 26 and a pretty good MiLB numbers and some good numbers with the Twins last year, I like AJ better as a callup than Meyers.
  3. Buxton got his 1st sombrero today. http://thumbs.dreamstime.com/x/mexican-sombrero-7312707.jpg Hang in there kid!!!
  4. IDK about Meyer. But I might be changing my mind. So, IDK about WHAT???? Anyway, sorting out his MiLB stats by Game Log, in 8 games he's averaged 1.9 inning: 2 3 inning games and 1 of 4 innings. So, relieving AND stretching out?? I still DK.....
  5. Buxton is leading off against Sale? So much for hiding him in the 9 hole against good pitching
  6. This has always been managements plan for Meyer. Rob Antony said Meyer was putting to much pressure on himself. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't follow the same path as St. Louis: bring him up to get his feet wet coming out of the bullpen and next spring training, stretch him out again for the rotation. I'm not really sure I see that happening with Meyer, but still possible.
  7. Brunansky: Let's just hang the guy And while we're at it, when will some one pull the chain on the box and flush this lineup and bring up everyone from the Lookouts??
  8. While I do think Baseball Prospective analysis of the Twins MiLB players is probably dead-on, comparing Buxton to Davis? Um, no. I'm thinking only by people who never saw Lyman Bostock play. http://m.mlb.com/player/111256/lyman-bostock
  9. "It's in hitting, and power that Buxton may find his kryptonite." No, that would be a slider.
  10. I've read a little something on him. Someone should really start a discussion on him.
  11. THANK YOU! I was wondering when this was returning to the subject I created I agree: batting leadoff didn't make Buxton better. It's the time Molitor, Brunansky and SomeOtherGuyICan'tRemember took to work him into a lineup position that typically has less pressure on a player. They worked him through a series of AB's, gave advice/made corrections. A couple (?) games ago, Buxton walked twice. That's a pretty big deal: pitch recognition. Hitting against Danks was great timing, and not just for Buxton. Not an overly brilliant move, but I'm thinking Molitor saw it as a chance to: 1. get Buxton quality AB's against a pitcher that's struggling 2. try to ignite the offense 3. pat on the back to Buxton for hanging in, learning and developing It'll be great to see how he handles his next challenge in Samardzija
  12. Was it the careful integration into the Major League's by Paul Molitor, was it the White Sox's or was it a coming of age day for Byron Buxton? http://www.lovethispic.com/uploaded_images/20062-When-Someone-Tellls-You.jpg
  13. Time to change the batteries on that hearing aid you got
  14. Gotta kick the Coke habit
  15. Very good article. Put's it all together on what Gibson is doing on the mound. I'm wondering when the author interviewed Gibson. "The other day David Ortiz hit a hard line drive up the middle and Danny Santana was waiting on it." Also liked the reference to "elevating pitches". I remember when Tommy Lasorda told Orel Hershiser to start elevating his sinker. Turned out pretty nice for Orel!
  16. Rosario is one of those guys who rises to the occasion. I can see at least double digit HR's, a couple Triples or so, and 30+ Doubles. About his call up: As I remember it, It was done because management didn't want to call up Hicks. Wanted him to really prove himself.
  17. How would that work out better for him to face MLB hitters? He was moved to the bullpen in the hopes he would created less stress on himself. There are other, I'd say better, alternatives to Meyer at AAA and AA. At least, right now.
  18. If you want to base it on all of Meyer's 2015 stats [WHIP of 1.671, highest of his MiLB career] no way is he even considered. I can see getting some time in, as a reliever, in the MLB. However, Meyer was sent to the pen to create an atmosphere of less stress for him. How would that work out better for him to face MLB hitters?
  19. Thompson and Tonkin have had their moments. Now those moments are over. But promoting Alex Meyer based on only 16 innings of relief work? Oh, no. The plan has always been for Meyer to get some less stress innings pitching out the the bullpen and then get moved back into the rotation. I see many local sports guys and bloggers are abbreviating that to "Twins move Meyers to Bullpen". Um, no Twins management has been clear: Meyer to bullpen to clear his head, then he will be a starter again. I'd like to see Lester Oliveros get his shot. After that, the "lefty du jour".
  20. AND NOW TWINS FANS: PLEASE GIVE A WARM WELCOME TO YOUR NEW CENTER FIELDER....... Da Da Da DANNY SANTANA!!!
  21. Prospect = likelihood. As in, not yet proven. I'm sure everyone knows the stories of Eddied Bane, Willie Banks, Joe Benson, Aaron Hicks and [potentially] Byron Buxton. Why would the White Sox even contemplate the trade of Sales for 2 AA players [sano/Berrios] with no evidence that either could perform at the MLB level? That boat don't float.
  22. Hot St. Louis women is probably another story!!
  23. I don't think the final decision will be all that tough. This is just a bunch of silly hand-wringing over, at best, middle of the road pitchers. I start with "Buy low/sell high". If you want something that get somewhat of a decent return, you trade Pelfrey. Yes, you're taking a chance that Pelfrey could really be what we're seeing now. So what? That's the nature of the beast. Gibson also falls into this category. Soft-tossing lefties have something of a successful track record in the fastball-dominate NL. Trade Milone. Gibson also, to a lessor extent, falls into this category. Hughes and May. I warned about the possible fall of Hughes: in season by season stats, Hughes would have one good year [with career high number of innings pitched] only to fall miserably the next year. 2015 = The next year. How could anyone think 16 BB's for the entire season would be sustainable? Every team knows that Hughes WILL put the ball over the plate, the biggest reason I was against the extension. May has been doing well, but very much an 'up and down' guy. I have to reason not to trade either, if trading Hughes s even possible. It still comes down to one thing: What do other teams think of them??
