  1. I know Gibson is on a hot streak, but if I'm management I gotta see more than a hot streak. Show me a seasonal ERA below 4 and I'd probably on board with the extension. Also, the .500 record doesn't do much for me. I think we can expect a lot more from Gibson.
  2. After only 11 MLB games????? That goes beyond wishful thinking
  3. I wouldn't trade either. Meyer may turn out to be a late bloomer. He needs to get his head back into the game again. Arcia: where else does the next Twins power hitter come from? I get Adam Brett Walker, but unless MLB hitting to him turns out to be what Sano thinks, ABW has a couple MiLB seasons to work on reducing those strikeouts. Arcia has proven himself as a MLB hitter. And I don't think his overall defense is as horrible as many think.
  4. I was a little surprised to see this article by Howard Sinker. I haven't seen anything from him in a long time. Turns out he's a blogger now. I REALLY like his positive, honest assessment of the Twins. Well worth the read. http://www.startribune.com/minnesota-twins-at-midseason-so-many-reasons-to-feel-good/314921831/
  5. Of the people who were voting, how many were alive when Walter Johnson was pitching?
  6. One more thing: This quote from Sano in the Pioneer Press: Sano, who is hitting .394 with one homer for the Twins in his first 10 games, said it's easier to hit in the major leagues than at Class AA Chattanooga, where he hit .274 with 15 homers in 66 games. "In Chattanooga, (pitchers) have no idea where they throw," he said. I've heard comments similar to the before. It's just been a really long time! I REALLY like Sano!
  7. To me, the playoff run is a great shot in the arm after 4 year of, well, you know. But I'm not really expecting a playoff spot. I'm more afraid of Terry Ryan becoming complacent again. I firmly believe the Twins are finally in rebuild mode and should continue down that path this year and next. Yes, there's been guys called up who have "failed". It's part of the process. There's been one guy who, so far, has made it look easy. Like I've posted before, it's audition time. I expect to see Berrios to get called to the pen end of July, early August. I'm expecting to see some of the bullpen guys that went up and down earlier, back up again. Maybe a debut of a rookie or 2 in the starting staff? Arcia is definitely a call up soon. I think he, Sano and Kennys Vargas are learning that Molitor REALLY doesn't like players showing off in BA and not working on their swing. Just my thoughts, I stand ready for the pummeling :-)
  8. Since June 26, Arcia's been hitting .366. So, Arcia is tracking along the same lines as Sano, Hicks and Buxton before their call-ups. Is there a real need for Arcia? As long as they keep trotting out INF's in LF, yea, there is. For me, that's not really the issue. Part of this season is about finding out what the MiLB'ers are really like. There has been the typical successes and failures. Sano's simple approach has been successful. Hicks had to fight his way back. RP's, maybe hopes were to high. Too soon to tell. For this year, this is the type of success I want to see for the Twins. Being over .500 is a target I didn't think they could reach. Being considered in the playoff push is a bonus. Aug 1st call-up for Arcia. I've read the reports on his offense. I'd like to see what his defense is really like.
  9. #1 plus this year: Dumping the MLB coaching staff that seemed to be complacent with losing 90 games per year. I've always liked sinkerball pitchers. I've always like pairing guys like Milone with pitching staffs that have guys like May. I see May in a quick return to the rotation. Pelfrey's final meltdown can't be too far away. Had serious doubts about Hicks, especially missing THAT flyball in Texas. He's been having a lot of really good AB's lately. His chart is upward bound. Dozier: would it kill you to hit to the opposite field once in awhile?? Biggest concern: bullpen. I'd probably grab Fasor to plug part of the hole.
  10. Do the Twins really have the MiLB relief pitchers ready to make a wild card [or better?] run? Like drock2190 said, Frasor has a bad K/BB ratio. A change might make a difference. The Twins were in the running for his services recently. Off the top of my head, the only MiLB pitcher I can think of to callup is Berrios. After only 2 starts at AAA, I don't know if that's a good idea.
  11. Right now? Pierzynski is the obvious choice. Or maybe Kottaras? What the Twins really need is some for for the future, long term and short. I think that's most important as Suzuki looks like he's already gassed.
  12. I don't ever get a chance to see any of the MiLB affiliates play. Are there any pitchers that could be a now or later season callup that can help the Twins bullpen? I'm thinking Berrios.
  13. Maybe the others looked at the cool, calm approach Sano has shown? I mean, Good Grief: 8 walks, 8 RBI's 2 HR's in only 11 games! Ok, ok, 15K's
  14. A part of the job that I don't think Molitor was ready for. I hope and pray he stays away from "social" media.
  15. I haven't watched too closely, but I was under the impression the Twins were bunting more to take advantage of the shifts.
  16. Seth: I'm looking at the ages in the Rochester roster. There's a lot of guy's in the 27-29 range. Is there any plan in place to start rotating some of those guys out to make room for younger players?
  17. Snark on If only we had a place where Buxton could go to fact tougher pitching before hew ent to the majors. Wait, there is! It's referred to a Triple A. Snark off
  18. I, too, have doubts about the Twins playoff hope. At the same time, they are doing pretty much the same thing they did during the playoffs and World Series years: Take your lickings against the elite pitchers and beat up on the others. This Detroit series is a good example.
  19. About 30 days ago, Bleacher Report had #1 Fielder #2 Cabera #3 Kipnis #4 Donaldson Not sure Dozier knocks any of them out. But a heck of a season so far!
  20. Hmm, Arcia has really heated-up in Rochester, still strikes out alot, and people here want him on the bench or in a couple days a week rotation? That really makes little sense to me. I'd treat him just like Molitor has treated other callups: play him fulltime and play him now. Hunter makes more sense as a guy that can handle pinch hitting and occasional days in OF/DH. Arcia batting behind Sano to give him protection? IMHO, no. Reverse it. Better/proven MLB hitter behind the callup to provide protection. Based on past history, Buxton will not go directly from DL to Twins. Down to AAA to test out that left hand. I still have serious doubts that Buxton will enough hit in MLB. If memory serves [which is frequently in doubt with me ] Buxton was more of an emergency callup move.
  21. Sometimes in life, it is better to patch a hole than to spend a lot more money to fix a hole. In this case, cheaper, better fixes were already available in the form of Gibson, Milone and May. The Santana acquisition always seemed a head scratcher to me because it looked like to me a fix was already present and he's now sitting in the bullpen.
  22. on nothing baseball relate
  23. Yeah, David Price is one tough sob.
  24. In his last 5 starts, Pelfrey tossed a total of 23.4 innings. So he should have been well rested. In the 7, he was still pitching well. He ended up throwing 110 pitches, so I'm guessing he was under 100 at the end of the 7th. Hindsight is a great thing, but as it stands, I don't see any reason to take him out. Other than, Pelfrey being Pelfrey The lose is on him and no one else.
