  1. I still believe Danny Santana could have been an above average CF if given the chance he deserved for what he did in 2014. Stats be damned!
  2. After a fraction of a season, I can't believe anyone would bring up a long term contract for Sano. And considering the number of times Buxton has gotten injured, he'd be the last guy on my list for a long term contract. If Sano starts raking early next year, I'd consider it. If Buxton doesn't get hurt at all for a full calendar year, I'd consider him, too.
  3. Gods, I don't understand what all this babbling is about. BUXTON IS BACK IN THE MAJORS AND IT'S OFF TO THE SUPER BOWL!!!
  4. Actually, I believe the Jepsen trade was for next year, not this one and done to calm down the fan base. A look at the performances of several of the RP call-ups would lead me to start planning for next year. Jepsen can be an asset. Ryan can try to unload as much as he can, but I think you'll find there won't be many takers, again.
  5. What the heck would Ryan be able to trade for elite talent? I watched the whole comedy over the Tulo trade suggestions: i.e. If you bundle enough stuff, you'll get Tulo. Free agency? We've already seen the only talent level they'll be able to acquire.
  6. So, what would you have done at the deadline? Twins do not have enough talent to make trades. They need what little they have to augment the younger players as they're called up. Or try more of the free agent route, where no star [or even just good] player would want to sign with the Twins? The Twins are a good 2 years away from being a real contender. Adding to the salary-base now makes no sense.
  7. With all the people here posting that the Twins are in playoff contention, I'd say all of YOU are in lock step with Terry Ryan
  8. Only response I have is: DUH. Like Rosterman posted: You wanted changes, you wanted signings, you got them. Problem is: this is not really a good team. This is and average/below average team with a few average/maybe above average players. They've had to added players from the MiLB to boost this team to the average level [sano, Hicks, Rosario, etc.]. No above average player wants to be a MN Twin. You'll have to bribe them with a ton of money to get them here. OK, I got another response: TIME TO GET REALISTIC.
  9. People have been say how great Perkins was after going 28-0 in saves. A lot of those save were of the weak kind: "A relief pitcher is awarded a save when he meets all three of the following conditions: He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and He is not the winning pitcher; and He qualifies under one of the following conditions: He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or He enters the game, regardless of the score, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck; or He pitches for at least three innings. (The word "effectively" has been removed from the MLB rules.) Allowing Perkins to pad his stats is what's killing him.
  10. I'm not wringing my hands over any of this. It'll all get sorted out during the September auditions and 2016 Spring Training.
  11. "As the most prominent local minor leaguer since Joe Mauer, Buxton has been tremendously appealing to fans from Apple Valley to Zumbrota, particularly as the Twins scramble to hold on to one of the AL Wild Cards." Local? Byron Buxton was born and raised in Baxley, Georgia.
  12. A guy has a very successful 19yr. career and his stats are decreasing at age 40. Stunning.
  13. Well, the MiLB is the lifeblood of the MLB. Especially for the Twins. It's the ONLY blood. So you really do need to keep those cities happy. I find it a little hard to believe that Hicks would just rollover for Buxton to take over CF. And remember what happened in the previous 2 shots by Hicks and the brief stint by Buxton. I don't believe Buxton is quite ready for the MLB, but getting pretty darn close.
  14. You've got me really curious about that statement. I haven't seen that much of either in the field. Is Rosario's arm better than Hicks? Or is it that Rosario has a better understanding of positioning, angles and situational play?
  15. OK, you weren't exactly saying what I thought you were saying. My apologies. I don't have the evidence in front of me, but I speculate that you will see somewhat similar splits with all switch hitters. Simply because there aren't that many ambidextrous people out there and even fewer in the MLB. Ken Brett is the last I can remember.
  16. Miguel Cabrera is not a switch hitter. Miguel Cabrera is not Aaron Hicks
  17. If there is a plan to make [ finish? ] the conversion of Meyer back to a starter, I suspect that it might happen after a few MiLB pitchers are promoted in September.
  18. I don't really see a reason to call Vargas up now, unless he gets significant AB's. As far as his fielding, he wasn't hideous I believe he has the possibility to out hit that problem.
  19. Your assumptions are: Hicks BABIP against LHP must go down Hicks hitting against RHP stays the same.I dispute both points. Statistics are a single point in time: per AB, per game, per month, per season, etc. It's not totally unrealistic that Hicks can sustain that BABIP. Limited AB's from his natural swing against a limited number of LHP's. #2: That's an assumption that he can not improve. Hicks has improved this year and I see no reason why that suddenly stops. Just like I don't assume what Buxton can be based on 11 games at AAA.
  20. What?!?!? What have you got against Hicks? Has he not consistently continued to develop this year into a player that is deserving of regular playing time in CF? ATM: Buxton is well deserving of a Sept call-up. Reasons: You don't take a player on an incredible hot streak away from an MiLB affiliate prior to their playoffs. As an organizational man, would you want a lot of empty seats in Rochester? How mad would the locals be? 11 games, 47 AB's. Not sure on what sample size is appropriate..........This has been a great discovery year for the Twins, giving them a clear picture of what they have and what they need. I don't really expect them to be in the hunt after this next set of series. Let Buxton hang out in Rochester and pad his stats. In Sept, since there's a lot more roster room, bring him up with ABW, Kepler, among others. They're the one's that get to rotate, for what he has done this year, Aaron Hicks is the deserving starter.
  21. So you're saying Buxton should be brought back up AAA-sap?
  22. Duffey IP H R ER BB SO HR PC-ST ERA (W, 1-1) 6.0 1 0 0 5 7 0 94-55 6.75
  23. Yup, and Arcia is constantly grinding away on that hip. Best of luck to you on your shoulder rehab. Maybe someday those that manufactured these wars will stepup and pay for the recovery of those who fought those wars.
  24. I believe Hicks is capable of hitting a solid .285-.295 with 20 HR's 30+ doubles and around 20 SB. I hear all the people saying he's not hitting well against righties. It's his 1st successful season in the majors. Sheezzzz.... Using only players within the organization right now, my lineup would be: Buxton [ he's gotta hit to get the gig ] Rosario [ could easily swap Escobar in here ] Hicks Vargas/Arcia [ whomever, will need lineup protection ] Sano [ the protection. he's got the patients for the job ] Mauer [ a sometime clutch hitter ] Dozier [ Hacker !! ] Escobar Suzuki [ this or someone for the MiLB ]
  25. I'm a believer that much that is said about Arcia's defense is word of mouth stuff. Just like the person responding to this topic saying Dozier and Rosario play "outstanding" defense.
