  1. The Twins are 23-49 and have players like Danny Santana, Buddy Boshers, Neil Ramirez on the roster. They also have an over-matched Byung Ho Park, an unneeded Trevor Plouffe, and the list goes on. The point people have been making is there was no reason to give up on him right now. They certainly could've found at bats to evaluate him through 2016. And let him go for nothing after the season if they didn't like what they saw. No one called him a Hall of Famer in the making.
  2. Ummm...are we talking about the same team that intentionally moved Miguel Sano to the OF this Winter?
  3. I'm curious where you got this notion that people are clamoring for the Twins to make a "big trade". I've certainly not seen it on this board... the team is 23-49, and next year likely won't be a whole ton better. Why in the world would they trade a potential star OFer for say, a #2 starter with a couple years of team control... so they can win 75 instead of 72 games next season? People are clamoring for the Twins to trade players that have no long term future here. Like Plouffe, Nunez, etc.
  4. Arcia traded to TB for cash or a PTBN. I hope he hits 20 home runs this year
  5. Unless you have been watching a different team than me this season, Sano can clearly not be "put in a corner OF spot"... in fact the GM appears to agree with me as it sounds unlikely he will spend much more time out there. If you want to go into 2017 with an OF of Rosario, Buxton, Grossmann... prepare to lose a LOT of games. FWIW, I liked the Grossman signing, and would continue to play him. But to act like an OF that includes him and Rosario is stocked enough to trade Kepler is insane Harrison and Walker are not prospects. Have you seen Walker try to play OF?
  6. Huh??? Who is in the Twins OF depth behind him, because right now I see 2 outfielders of the future, Buxton CF and Kepler RF
  7. Trevor Plouffe is a 30 year old with declining 3rd base skills and a .273 OBP. Twins fans are the only ones who think someone like that is worth more than a low-minors prospect. He's a platoon player at this stage, sometimes the roster flexibility (Sano to 3B) is greater than the return. He won't be back next season, so I don't get the point of holding onto him
  8. Sounds like he is going to play 3B, RF, DH... we wouldn't want him focusing on his most comfortable position that he has hardly played or practiced at this year... need to keep him on his toes.
  9. So much for that Plouffe trade... for those watching, how bad did it look? Hamstring?
  10. So you think with Trevor Plouffe playing 3rd and hitting .251/.274/.382 they'll be able to sell those $8 beers and $10 hot dogs, but if Sano plays 3B and Kepler RF they'll have to lower the prices?
  11. I agree with everything you wrote, I think it is very very unlikely Dozier is traded though
  12. Umm, Brian Dozier and Trevor Plouffe are not bringing fans to the ballpark. Winning baseball games brings fans to the ballpark
  13. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/danny-valencia-future-met/ I just read this as well, here's the part mentioning Plouffe. The Brewers are using Aaron Hill at third base, so while he’s right-handed, he’s not exactly the kind of upgrade the Mets are looking for. Likewise Yangervis Solarte over in San Diego and Trevor Plouffe in Minnesota; they would add a body to the pile, but probably aren’t much better than what the team already has.
  14. That is quite the jump... do you think that makes him attractive to another team? I don't. Do you think it makes him attractive to TR for a contract extension... Hmmmm
  15. It's the same FO in place. No one is saying the actions of Plouffe, Dozier or Suzuki is bad, it's great they are all coming around. But is it bad for the long term future of the Twins?
  16. Was it good when Kurt Suzuki played well in the 1st half in 2014? Was it good when Phil Hughes had a career year in 2014? Obviously I get what you're saying, but consider who the General Manager is, it's not that ridiculous of question.
  17. Good and Bad. Value might be increasing slightly, but I think TR would now be more likely to hang onto Dozier (ignoring his July through May #'s, and focusing on the last 3 weeks seems.. not smart). Hopefully a prolonged stretch of better by at bats by Plouffe proves to other teams he's healthy and has at least a little trade value. I think it's becoming more likely Suzuki will be back next year, so chalk that up in the Bad column
  18. Buddy Boshers 2016: 0.90 ERA 9.9 k/9 Mariano Rivera 2.21 ERA 8.2 k/9 (career) I'm not saying Boshers is better, but its a conversation
  19. Archer has thrown a change up an avg of 7.5% of the time in his career (12% this year), Duffey 2.1% last year and 6.7% this year (the fact that the changeup isn't good, probably plays into him getting lit up) Not sure where you got Wacha from, he throws a Fastball, Cutter, Curve and Change all > 10% of the time. Detwiler; FB, CB, CH all > 10% of the time (and he stinks, so not sure thats a good example anyways)
  20. You don't HAVE to give anyone a chance. You can have the foresight to see "this guy might be a better fit in the bullpen since he can only throw 2 pitches"... but obviously the Twins don't operate that way, he got his 11 starts this year and has gotten pummeled over the last 7
  21. Yes, I would've (assuming we're talking May vs Duffey). Because a sample size of 10 games is not meaningful at all. In today's game you need more than 2 pitches to survive in the Majors as a starter long term
  22. "Next time, give me half the money you were going to bet, I'll take ya outside, kick ya in the balls and we'll call it a day!"
  23. Sorry, mixing up deadlines. Replace 2012 with 2013. The rest of the post remains unchanged, still multiple years of team control
  24. Realistically how much were Doumit, Perkins, Willingham going to help the Twins make the playoffs in the future I think is also a worthwhile question. Not much at all? then trade them for the best possible offer. And you don't think a 30 year old all star closer with multiple years of team control had value? I would argue he had more value than anyone but Zach Greinke of those who were dealt at the 2012 deadline
  25. Right - so they should've tried winning again as soon as possible (by rebuilding, rather than doing nothing). We're now in the 5th season of TR 2.0, and they are on pace to lose 112 games.
