  1. Couldn't agree more on Stewart, I can't believe so many people think he would go unprotected. I protect Dozier if I think he still has good trade value... which right now I'm not sure of. But I think he offers more in a trade then say, Eddie Rosario.
  2. I think I agree with all of these in the post above this. I would potentially add Thorpe or Romero depending on their health, instead of Duffey/ Gibson
  3. Yeah the Twins might have to add in Boshers and/or Hughes to even things up
  4. SSS Alert June: .229/.385/.386 (Grossman) ..348/.360/.652 (Arcia) .145/.236/.323 (Park) No room to play the youngest of the 3!
  5. The Twins DH is hitting .194 with a .279 OBP and is 5 years older than Arcia.
  6. On the bright side, Neil Ramirez is on the 25 man roster and has only pitched once in 10 days, so he should be fresh in case a mop up pitcher is needed this week.
  7. I don't think the Twins will contend next year. I also don't think they will or should do a 2011 Astros style teardown/ rebuild. The time for that was 4 years ago. Sano, Buxton, Kepler, Polanco, Berrios are 5 reasons not to "blow this up", trade Erv for nothing and just throw warm bodies into the rotation.
  8. You realize the reason talk about Arcia differently than Grossman is because he actually has done it, right? Grossman's "standout" skill led to a .327 OBP entering this season. Arcia's standout skill led to 34 home runs before his 24th birthday, and a 100 and 108 OPS+ season. * I'm not trying to bash Grossman, I'd keep playing him for now. For me Grossman > Rosario... but lets not act like this was Arcia vs Grossman here. It was Arcia vs a 29 year old DH who's hitting under .200, Arcia vs DanSan, Arcia vs a Neil Ramirez.
  9. You certainly can disagree. You asked me a question "Why wouldn't the Twins trade Santana?" when replying to a post I wrote that laid out the reasons I wouldn't trade him. Trevor May is not a starter according to the people in charge of this organization. I hope there are new people in charge by this offseason, but for now there is no reason to assume he will be a rotation option. Tommy Milone? The guy who 6 weeks ago cleared waivers? You think the Twins are going to offer him arbitration and slot him into a rotation spot next season? Say he stays in the rotation the rest of this season and pitches ok.. ~$6 million arbitration? NO What makes you think Nolasco or Hughes should be counted on for anything next season, let alone take up 40% of the starting rotation?
  10. You literally replied to a post where I stated why the Twins wouldn't trade Santana right now. Because they hardly have 5 working pulses to put in a rotation next year, and it's likely trading him would just cause TR to sign another mediocre at best veteran to a long term deal
  11. I don't think the Twins (at least the current regime) see May or Meyer as a starter. Jay, Gonsalves and Stewart if everything goes to plan are ready to help the MLB team when.. August 2017? Trade Ervin at next years deadline if that's the concern. If Santana is traded this year, just keep in mind... TR will have to fill a 5 man rotation somehow. Meaning you're going to get another overpriced over-committed veteran
  12. It's not really fair to look at Nolasco's peripherals in comparison to others. Someone pointed this out awhile back, but his FIP/ Siera have basically never matched up with his Raw numbers. His FIP is often times around 3.9 or 4.0. His ERA has been under 4.5 1 time since 2008 I like and buy into advanced stats as much as anyone. But it's not really fair to say they've been the same pitchers, this is year 3 in MN for Nolasco. He has a 5.42 ERA as a Twin. Santana has a 4.27 ERA
  13. I didn't intend to put words in your mouth. Being upset he is making so much money is really the only reason I could think of why someone is advocating Mauer "should want to be traded". He earned his contract, and he earned his no trade clause.
  14. You should really try to get some perspective. Sorry you think Mauer makes too much money (that's why you're telling him how he should want to live his life, run his career, right?), but its not coming out of your checkbook. He will be a Twin through 2018, and you'll just have to accept he's not going to hit a bunch of dingers.
  15. Huh? Who cares if he's wealthy. That's beside the point. The post I replied to said he should "want to leave". No one said it would be an enormous burden to play elsewhere. There's plenty of reasons he signed to play in MN, and got a no trade clause
  16. April 4, 2016 “I do think we’re a playoff-caliber club,” Ryan said before Monday’s season opener at Camden Yards. “I don’t have any qualms to mention that. I just think this is a good ball club and we ought to be pointing toward that type of ceiling.” “We need to go out and try to win this division,” he (Terry Ryan) said. “Not a wild-card spot. That’s dangerous. You’d like to make sure you at least get five games (in a playoff series) to go out and prove you’re that type of ball club. It’s a shame the (Pittsburgh) Pirates won 98 games last year and they were one and done.”
  17. No, he doesn't. His residence was in Florida (and still spent April-Sept in MN) before he was married, and had children
  18. There seems to be a lot of people in this, and other threads that want to trade Ervin Santana. I'm not a big fan of his, and understand he might have some value (at least compared to the Plouffe's, Suzukis, etc.).. but if he is traded, who in the hell is in the 2017 rotation? If Terry Ryan is back (shudders at the thought) Berrios Gibson Duffey - Not exactly someone I want to write in stone, but compared to the other options, sure. Hughes? Maybe I guess, but hopefully not Nolasco? - No May? No. This staff has no interest in him starting Meyer? No Pat Dean, Jason Wheeler? God I hope not Are we wanting to trade Santana's last 2 years so TR can overpay another #5 starter this offseason, with 4 years?
  19. Mauer should want to pack up his wife and 2 young children and move away from his and his wife's entire families? Ok, sure
  20. Rosario likely has a good 4th OFer ceiling, ditto for Grossman. Santana? I'd release him tomorrow so certainly not worried about what happens to him. He's not a major league level talent.
  21. Again I'll say, he should have played every single time the team faced a RHP. (mostly at DH, occasionally in the OF) If he got his 400 at bats in that role this year, and stunk, then by all means cut strings, likely not a very useful player going forward. Trevor Plouffe has a .690 career OPS vs RHP. He has 156 at bats vs them this season Oswaldo arcia has a .785 career OPS vs RHP (most of the opportunities coming ages 21-23). He received 84 at bats vs them this season. If the goal was to win baseball games, and not just play the veterans, those 2016 at bat totals wouldn't look like that.
  22. So the positives of Santana seem to be. He can sit on a bench. Defensive replacement, for whom exactly? Buxton? Escobar? Kepler? How many times has he been used as a pinch runner the last 2 years... less than 5 I presume? Why give the worst player in baseball an occasional start? What benefit is there to that, that literally anyone else in Rochester couldn't provide?
  23. What do his AAA numbers have to do with anything? Do you want to know his career MLB #'s? He has an OPS+ of 101. No one said they should've played him over Kepler. I've said since February he should've platooned with Park at DH
  24. Flexibility in that he owns an OF AND Infield glove? I'm sure we could've bought Arcia a middle infield glove and called him flexible, but that wouldn't have made him good or valuable defensively. Danny Santana is hitting .226/.254/.305 w/ a 47 wRC+ since the start of 2015. He has the lowest WAR in the entire Major Leagues in that time period. It is not just hyperbole to say, Danny Santana is the WORST player in baseball. In Arcia's smaller sample size since he never got the same shot, he's struggled and hit .236/.307/.373 w/ a 80 wRC+
  25. Ditto. What's more difficult to replace. A Left handed bat capable of hitting 20+ homers. Or a guy who is... I guess fast?
