  1. Santana is 11 of 19 stealing bases this year, and if I remember correctly, 1 of the 11 was when he was picked off 1st and the 1st baseman couldn't get the ball out of his glove to throw down to 2nd. Frightening that Molitor thinks this stuff
  2. This is what I'm going to try and remind myself. It's mid July, the decision on the 2017 manager can still be months away. Because this would be an insane requirement of the new GM, and hopefully once the smoke clears Pohlad will come to his senses. Mark Rosen certainly made it sound like on KFAN he believes there is no chance Antony is a serious candidate, which is encouraging
  3. Exactly my thoughts. This timing actually makes me feel much better that Antony will NOT get the permanent job
  4. Right, the Twins can win 40 games from here on out in 2016 and it isn't going to alter my opinion of Terry Ryan one bit. It may alter my outlook for the 2017 season though. My opinion of Terry Ryan is based off of moves made or not made, roster management, front office and coaching staffs assembled, records, etc. over the past 20 some odd years.
  5. It wasn't about the sample size of 3 seasons, it was about the Stats used to reach the conclusion. Those stats, ERA+ and K/9 don't differentiate between the numbers of innings pitched, or whether they came in relief or the rotation. I'm not really arguing whether the Red Sox should have made the deal or not, or whether Pomeranz can be good or not. I was really just quibbling over the stats used to conclude he's an elite pitcher, worthy of being traded for a top 15 prospect in all of baseball. I think the Red Sox overpaid, but thats neither here nor there. I think its unlikely Pomeranz helps their starting rotation come September and October due to the obvious risk factors based on his IP, but his 2017 + 2018 seasons are certainly valuable
  6. It's cherry picking because the main reason people are skeptical of this trade and calling it an overpay, sellers market, etc. has nothing to do with Pomeranz's ERA+ or K/9. It has everything to do with the fact that he has never thrown over 100 innings until 2016. Yes, you used 3 seasons of data. 3 seasons where he made 36 starts. His ERA+ and K/9 since the start of 2014 include a whopping 200 Starter innings spread over 3 seasons, and 57 relief innings. Just to use one small example to make my point clearer. It appears without pulling up the splits Corey Kluber has a similar ERA+ and K/9 as Drew Pomeranz since the start of 2014. Would you say its fair to Kluber if I made the argument "Pomeranz has been as good if not better of pitcher than Kluber since 2014, look at the ERA+ and K/9"? Probably not, because you'd point out Kluber has started more than twice as many games, pitched more than twice as many innings and has compiled almost 10 more Wins Above Replacement than Pomeranz.
  7. I am curious to see what 2017 and 2018 look like. Why would I want Terry Ryan to be in charge of those teams when he's proven over 21 seasons he isn't up to the task. Why can't I be curious without him around?
  8. Right, they got the best possible prospects by agreeing to take on the Reyes contract. I'm not disagreeing with the route Colorado went in anyway. I was simply clearing up the misconception that "Tulo brought back X amount of top prospects". Picking up $48 million of dead weight + Tulo brought back X amount of top prospects.
  9. That is not what you wrote, nor what I replied to. You ignored the part about explaining how the Twins could have gotten Tulo without giving up a top prospect given Colorado got a top 50 and two other pitching prospects. You ignored the fact that Reyes had $48M remaining and Tulo had $109M.You might not think this is relevant but anyone I have ever worked with that has every managed at $100M plus P&L would consider that omission a significant lapse in judgment.
  10. Ervin obviously doesn't have the value Pomeranz had, but.... He had never thrown more than 100 innings in a season before this year, looking solely at his ERA+ and K/9 in his last 180 innings (26 starts, 44 Relief appearances)) is an extreme cherry pick.
  11. Colorado got better prospects by taking on Reyes and his salary than they would have had they not done that. The Twins could've taken on the entire Tulo contract and sent back lesser prospects. I'm not sure what is difficult to understand about that.
  12. Probably a fair comparison. They both started in the mid 90s, made playoffs (> half NBA teams make playoffs, Twins won a terrible division a few times) before quickly flaming out in all but 1 year for each franchise. Only problem is McHale has now been gone for almost 8 years...Kahn = Billy Smith? I mean just imagine if after the Kahn tenure Glen Taylor had brought back McHale to be the GM...
  13. How did he build around them? By ignoring the bullpen, littering the rotation with overpriced #4/ 5 starters. Where did extending Phil Hughes with 2 years left on his deal fall in building around Buxton/Sano? I could go on but I think you've got the point. The Twins haven't won a single playoff game in 12 seasons, and are about to lose 90 for the 5th time in 6 years. If you think a GM who has been around for 20 years deserves MORE time, we probably aren't going to agree on much. In what other sport or what other organization would a front office be allowed to continue after showing this level of incompetence over such an extended period of time?
  14. I gotta be honest, you are watching a different team and reading a different message board than me if you think the only difference between every move TR makes and what people want is playing time
  15. How many Cy Youngs would Corey Kluber or Jake Arrieta need to win to be considered front line? Or Jordan Zimmerman, Matt Harvey (didnt sign), Chris Sale (didn't sign)
  16. To be fair, are you overly enthused about any of the players being traded for those prospects?
  17. I was only commenting on his unsustainable end of 2015 numbers, I may have misunderstood the discussion people were having. Specifically this; "To be fair, I remember reading he had fought a minor injury early in the 2015 season and wasn't healthy until July, when he turned back into a good pitcher (and similar to what he had done in previous seasons)." And was disagreeing with the end of 2015 "healthy" Jepsen was what could be expected as it was career norms...
  18. Not clear what side you are arguing exactly here, but I don't know about "similar to what he had done in previous seasons" Aug 2nd - End of Season 2015: .224 BABIP, 84.8% LOB% 2.25 BB/9, 3.1% HR/FB Career: .311 BABIP, 72.1% LOB%, 3.52 BB/9,. 7.7% HR/FB
  19. How many of those Catchers still catching at 31/32 are 6'5" with knee issues in their 20's?
  20. Awful article. They also called Revere an "above avg hitting OFer". 88 wRC+ since leaving MN. That John Shipley is a hack, I'm not sure where he came from but I haven't been impressed by anything he has written. And yes, the Ryan comments were... disturbing
  21. Jorge Polanco's Minor League stats have been compiled ages 17-22 (and a couple of games as a new 23 year old). Age 17-22 Brian Dozier was in High School, College, and a season in rookie ball.
  22. Certainly wait. Stubhub is my go to method, and by late September you should have your pick of pretty good seats for very little money. Have fun!
  23. 1) Immediately after being hired. Fire Molitor, hire Mientkiewicz as the interim manager. 2) Trading for sure; Plouffe, Abad, Nunez, Suzuki, Nolasco, Milone (last 2 DFA candidates if untradeable) 3) Calling teams on Erv + Dozier. Try to convince the Pohlad's to pick up half of Erv's remaining salary so I can hopefully get a top prospect back. Ok holding onto Erv for 2017 if the trade doesn't bring back much. If someone wants to overpay for Dozier now, he's gone. If not, he's probably gone this winter. 4) Stretching May out, he'll be in the rotation by Aug 1. 5) Calling up Polanco (he'll play SS or 2B depending on Dozier trade). Berrios will be in the rotation as soon as his next start. I'm not waiting on calls for Milone, I'm calling teams and seeing if a trade is possible now or DFA'ing. Chargois is up as well, closing games. 6) Dougie would know if Danny Santana takes at bats away from Buxton, Kepler, or Polanco he will not have a job the next day. Every day lineup by Aug 1 (if Dozier kept). !) Polanco (SS) 2) Grossman (LF) 3) Kepler (RF) 4) Sano (3B) 5) Dozier (2B) 6) Vargas/ Park / Palka (DH) 7) Mauer (1B) 8) Murphy © 9) Buxton (CF) Rotation 1) Berrios 2) May 3) Gibson 4) Duffey 5) Erv, or if he's traded Jason Wheeler I guess.
  24. Is this in reference to something specifically? Who has written skeptically on Berrios?
  25. And left handed
