  1. I think the Twins are a better team without Sano right now. I’d love for them to put Arrenz at 3rd to get a persistent hitter that gets on base consistently, granted without the HR’s. Sano is a HR or bust guy who will always be a .220 hitter.
  2. Seth- What’s up with Kirilloff? All other IL guys have reason next on the listing, but not Alex. Is there some reason why this hasn’t been disclosed?
  3. When was the last time you remember Sano hitting a line-drive? He doesn’t! He either walks, K’s, homers, or hits 2000 foot popups! I hate to say it, but in a critical situation with the game on the line- Adrianza will give me a better AB than Sano-every time.
  4. It’s always better to be lucky than......... actually, these guys are good, too! Something must be wrong with Rogers, unless Rocco was trying to make some kind of point. He was willing to sacrifice the game by staying with May and no one else backing him up, and he won-this time.
  5. I have a request for Seth. Because of your excellent writing ability, knowledge of basically Every player in the system, and a terrific relationship with management at all levels, cease and desist answering all future questions about injuries basically saying no comment or something to the fact that the injury is not to be revealed!!! Seth- for 5 years you have trained legions of Twins fans to not only follow players at the big club, but also get involved with the next group(s) we will be paying our attention to. But if it’s a stud player-Lewis,Kirilloff, or Graterol-information concerting these great players must be keep from us rabid TD readers. I’d bet a dime to a dollar that most, if not all moderators know the extent of the injuries, and were told not to tell by the some big wig in the organization. When that happens, I assume the player has broken some team rules, gotten involved in alcohol or drugs, or has some kind of emotional issue. These things happen, but keeping these from the fans serves no purpose.
  6. I’d like Smith, especially if they could extend him! Vasquez next, then Giles. I could care less if they overpay for any of these 3. We’ve seen this scenario play out before. Twins need player or two to get to the next level, and management in the past always got guys on the cheap. Hope Falvey and Levine are different. If the Twins do make the playoffs, then lose games because of our bullpen, fans will always remember the opportunity lost if we look at cheap options. Make decent offers-90% of our best players will not make the Twins. If you want someone good, don’t insult the other team by low balling them. Those teams quickly lose respect for the Twins when that happens!
  7. I agree with jkcarew! Crickets from the Twins organization and I surmise people in the know are told to keep quiet. Makes me wonder what the big suspense is?
  8. Twins are either going to need one of these boys to step up big time, or make some significant trades. It’s evident that only Rogers is trustworthy!
  9. Absolutely love Strat-O-Matic baseball. Played for 22 years in a league of 8 in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s. One of the best experiences of my life!
  10. Great show tonight! I agree 100% about Justin Morneau! He is the best thing that has happened to the TV broadcast. He is intelligent, interesting, and gives the perspective of the modern ballplayer. His insight of what is happening at the very instant of a pitch-what the batter or pitcher might be thinking-definitely sets him apart from other color guys. Plus I love his enthusiasm! His voice might not be as good as Vin Skully, but he makes up for it with his knowledge and love for the game!
  11. I agree! I’d do that trade in a heart beat, but only if there was an extension. Kidilloff might be elite, but Realmuto is “elite-er!”
  12. Wish we could re-do the trade and keep Curtiss. Chances are good that the Twins regret this move.
  13. When I used to play fantasy baseball, I never sent “big” money on stud relievers in the saves category for one reason: there is ALWAYS someone who comes out of nowhere to be the new staff savior. My point: we have plenty of guys in the system who could be that new ace reliever. Give everyone a chance in SP, and may the best player (or players) win! And it will probably be necessary to keep the Rochester shuttle busy when we weed out the “dead wood.” Last point: I agree with Seth that Curtiss could be very interesting. Molly had an extremely short lease with him, and he never really had a chance to show his potential.
  14. The Twins are not, repeat NOT, going to attract any major free agents. Sure, they might get guys like Lynn, Rodney, and Reed- basically players their original team did not want to keep- but when was the last time a real stud came to Minnesota? Butler, with the Wolves, is a great example. Major stars want the limelight of NewYork, Chicago, or LA., or a warm weather established franchise. Our team will always be comprised of a few of our homegrown guys, and castoffs from other teams. I loved your article, Nick, but the only way good players come to Minnesota will be via the trade route, with prospects nobody wants to trade being dealt the other way!
  15. I disagree about Polanco. I think he can be a consistent .280 type of hitter and ideal number 3 man in the order. As far as his defense goes, he’s been ok until the last 10 days when he checked out like the rest of the team, except for maybe Cave and the injured Rosario. Whoops- forgot to include Molitor who never really checked “in.” The Twins will be in a world of hurt if they bring Molitor and the other coaches back.
  16. I would tune in just to listen to Morneau! His knowledge and respect for the game is second to none, IMHO. He is very close to today’s players, having just retired in the last couple of years. Plus, he isn’t afraid to criticize a player if he thinks someone isn’t playing hard. More Justin, please!
  17. I was embarassed to call this “my team” today. Their starting lineup was an insult to the game of baseball. We had 4 “regulars” starting today in a game that, granted, had no meaning except to the ardent followers of the Twins. Two of today’s starters were a backup catcher- hitting around .150 IN THE MINORS- that had to play first base because no one else could apparently, and some guy named Field who is 1 for 20 this year!!! This organization is in crisis mode right now. Two teams lower in the division race- Chicago and Detroit- have arguably made significantly more improvement this year. Our 2 faces of the franchise-Buxton and Sano-have disappeared and regressed. Our 3rd All-Star, Jose Berrios, has been horrible since August 1. And more importantly, management refuses to bring up younger players to possibly gain experience in September. For an organization that has had a “total system failure” and endured “ bilateral leg weakness”- it can’t get any worse. And now comes Houston. Gulp!!!
  18. Seth- I haven’t paid attention to the entirety of the minor leagues, but it seems to me that Kirilloff should be given some consideration for Minor League Player of the Year- no?
  19. All 3 have been significantly better than I would have hoped for! Austin has been a pleasant surprise, but I can’t believe a major league hitter can miss a pitch so completely, and then manage to make contact on the following pitch! Kudos to the FO for these pickups!
  20. I watched tonite’s game with the sound off, so don’t know if the announcers made any comments, but I was deeply dismayed the way the players went about their business tonight. Everyone was swinging for an 8 run homerun, especially Rosario and Sano. Disappointing! In addition, it looked like a little-league game at times the way the ball was thrown around.
  21. The game was lost tonite in the first inning. One run in, second and third, no out, and 4-5-6 hitters up. Did not score. Could have put some serious hurt on Detroit and it’s pitching staff. Could understand that happening with Sandy Koufax pitching, but not Carpenter. VERY DISAPPOINTING!
  22. Trevor May checks all of my boxes to be the closer, except, I doubt he currently is in a position to pitch two, or sometimes 3, days in a row. Busenitz is my second option.
  23. I’ve been on the Gonsalves bandwagon for years, but at this point all that it’s got me is .................admiration for his persistence!
