  1. Not only did the Chatanooga Lookouts lose tonight when Montgomery scored 4 in the bottom of the 9th, (courtesy of 4 walks from Nic Burdi), they made 20 of their 27 outs via the strikeout!!!
  2. Will we know who is already taken before the 9am time, or is everyone starting from scratch this year?
  3. I'm pretty sure that Nolasco is trying. No one wants to suck. Right now I think he is his worst enemy: the harder he tries, the more difficult it gets for him. People react differently to failure. The pressure of the huge contract, a miserable season, and a bad start today make him an easy target. It sucks to be him.
  4. Masters Par 3 update: Jack Nicholas gets hole-in-one on #4. 3 under thru #4. Circus Boy Masters update.
  5. OK- what do you think? What's the first month the Twins score a run?
  6. My phone beeps every time there is a scoring play.......... You'd think there has been Wile E. Coyote sighting............
  7. Touchdown from the Lions, or I mean Tigers.....
  8. Par 3 Golf at the Masters is on at 2:00.........
  9. When I saw the Santana news, it felt like a kick in the gut (or a knee to the groin.) That's what you get for being a Minnesota sports fan, I guess!
  10. They all "never knowingly would take anything illegal." Really? That's all you got? And somehow the word 'current' rubbed me the wrong way. This is really going to be a test for Molitor- I would guess the team is pretty down right now.
  11. Personally, Ms. ChiTown, I rather have you reporting rather than working.
  12. Sorry- I have to respectfully disagree. One thing that I have always respected is that TD readers and contributors are so passionate in their opinions. We all think we are experts, and if they would just trust us to make all of the roster decisions, the Twins would never lose again! All of the old vets have warts, and the youngsters are all potential superstars. Before I became a TD reader, I knew very little, if anything, about the players in the minors. Now I look forward to the articles on the minor league players, and now know who these guys are before they hit the big time. I really feel that I have become a more educated fan, and following the Twins is actually more fun now.
  13. Does mean that Graham also made it?
  14. It seems to me that this situation might be similar to the one the Twins faced in the early 1980's. They were terrible then, but someone decided they were going to play the prospects, and let them get their feet wet in the major leagues. I'm too lazy to check the exact details ( this is time for one of Doc Bauer's famous stories),but didn't Gaetti, Laudner, Viola, Brunansky, Puckett, and Hrbek get called up at a relatively early age? If memory serves me right, I believe Hrbek was called up from single A. They too had some bad years, but by the late 80's, served as the nucleus for some great teams. My point is we still don't know if May and Meyer can pitch in the bigs. What happens if Berrios is lights out at Chatanooga? I'm not saying my example is the right way to go, but it is in stark contrast to the thinking that prevails in the organization right now.
  15. Along with everyone else today, I am also disappointed with today's developments. Not so much by who is going and who is saying, but rather what these decisions mean. To me it means that Hicks was either not good enough or didn't care enough to take the CF job and run with it. Or that May and Meyer either weren't ready to start the season on the 25 man roster, or the front office and manager don't have any confidence in them. And what does it mean that players that have been released by other organizations are now making up 50% of the Twins outfield? No doubt that the Twins have some promising players in the pipeline, but this year looks to be another 85-90 loss season. We fans have to just hang in there, I guess!

    Who gets cut?

Agree- and what happens if Hamburger is in the picture? Let's face it- if any of the 3 (or Hamberger) make the final cut, the Twins are in a bind if they don't make a trade!

    Who gets cut?

We've all been following the happenings at ST and wondering, speculating who makes the final roster. Who is the CF, who is the back-up catcher, and who makes the roster in the pen. But what happens if those answers are: Fryer, Boyer, and Robinson? Who gets cut from the 40 man to make room for these guys?
  20. Did you see Meyer's last outing before he was sent down? Apparently not. It was not a question of having control- his pitches were not in the same STATE from where they started in Florida! I, too, have been a Meyer fan, but you just cannot have a pitcher who has no clue where the pitch is going make the final cut to go north with the rest. Either his mechanics or his makeup need some time to work out the problem. It wouldn't be fair to him to face big league hitters in his present condition.
  21. You'd think that every pitcher coming out of high school would want to get that surgery over immediately, and then start his career!
  22. I am a Mauer fan, but if he changes anything, to me it should be his passive style in the early counts. I whole heartedly agree with those who do not like his taking the first pitch 98.9% of the time. Furthermore, if the first pitch happens to be a ball, (and the 2nd one too), he'll take the next 85 mile/hour get over FB nearly every time! Time and time again, I hear announcers say that successful hitters should crush the ball when they get into a favorable counts. It seems logical to me that if you are most always starting in the hole at Strike One and Strike Two every count, even great hitters like Joe Mauer are going to have a tough time, and it would seem likely that this is a factor is his increasing K percentage. Furthermore, I don't think Mauer will ever be a natural pull hitter or home run guy. That's not him. Defensive positioning probably has taken 20 or 30 points off his average, and I think has gotten into his head, too. Combining that with the concussion, the last couple of years have been tough. Here's hoping he makes a few minor adjustments (hit that first gimme), and has a little luck this year.
