  1. The Twins have brought the excitement of a pennant chase back to this area after several years of futility-even if we are only talking about the wild card. It got me thinking about what would happen in the following scenario if the season played out like this: Twins- (21-17) Orioles-(22-16) Rays-(22-16) Astros-(15-21) Rangers-(20-19) Angels-(21-17) Yankees-(15-23) Blue Jays-(15-23) The result of these finishes, which is not out of the question in any of the examples, would be an 8 way tie with 84-78 records. Does anyone know what would happen next? Would the World Series be played around Thanksgiving?
  2. The Twins bring back the same 8-9-10 relievers next year with no new faces.
  3. I'm joining the party late, but I thought Duffy was incredible tonight. I know he gave up five hits in the 8th, but he absolutely dominated. Most impressively pitched game of the year by a Twins pitcher, IMHO!
  4. It's hard to not come to the conclusion that this situation has been terribly mismanaged. You have to wonder who is in charge! I thought this year was going to be a work in progress, so I'm not too disappointed with the results in New York. But the decisions that led to this slide is the classic cluster ****. Chief absolutely nailed it with the May decision(s). I don't think we fans are going to get an explanation, but you hope this isn't the way this organization is going to be run in the future.
  5. He nibbles too much, Dave. Throw the damn ball over the plate! I think he was at 90 pitches or so in the 4th!
  6. Perkins was not good tonight, no question about it. But it's not surprising: you can't expose a below average bullpen to the abuse they have been under lately. The problem has been the starters, as mentioned above. You could have all the stud stoppers in the world, but if you are expected to throw 20+ pitches for 3 days in a row, you are a disaster waiting to happen. Hughes has not had a good year, but he at least throws strikes. I think I noticed that Gibson was at like 90 pitches in the 4th inning! That's a problem! I would hope the Twins pitchers would trust their stuff more, and throw the effing ball over the plate!
  7. Gee, Thrylos, you're just a Debby Downer today, buds!
  8. Doesn't really matter. There are no prizes for 2nd, 3rd, or 4th place. I'd rather see them play some young players to get a better picture of what they face in 2016, and who will make next year's 40 man roster.
  9. You have to be kidding me!
  10. I think the answers will start to surface when the FO realizes this team is not going to be in the playoffs. This team has big holes, including their lineup construction. I am a Mauer fan, but the reason he is hitting 3rd is that he WAS, repeat WAS, an elite hitter. But you just can't bat him there in a major league lineup now.And I don't know where he fits either. I think this year was supposed to be one where TR and Mollie tried to find out who were candidates for the run in 2016, but May got everybody excited with a 21-9 record (or whatever). The starting pitching was crazy good, and all of a sudden we were talking post season. But that was never going to happen with the bullpen and problems at catcher and SS. I believe Ryan felt that this wasn't the time to make a big push- there was just too much to accomplish- and like Chief said, I just don't think that making trades is his thing. I'm not sure what to do about May. I would be OK to see him pitch in his current capacity this year, but I think he deserves a chance to start in 2016. I love this thread, Chief. I think it covers much to what a lot of us have been thinking! Well done!
  11. 1 hit Friday, 1 hit today.........sigh........
  12. Twins not playing Escobar as a starter at SS should tell you everything.....
  13. Sorry, can't get excited about this deal. Can't we, for once, be interested in a player UNDER 30?
  14. The thing that impressed me the most was how quickly and effectively he pitched. You could say he was almost Beuhrle-esk.
  15. Because, Mike, the Twins need to desperately find a SS, and Santana is their best option right now. Not Escobar, Nunez, or Polanco. I have to hand it to Mollie, he knows this and has given Danny about 40 chances so far this year. And EVERYONE is right: he hasn't done the job this year so far. But...... the Twins were 9 games over .500 at the break, and does anyone think they would be significantly better if someone else in the Twins system had played there? Seth did a super job of explaining the options. The FA options next year are not exciting, to say the least. So what are you going to do, Twins fans? My choice, while not being the popular one on TD, would be to give Santana the job until further notice.
  16. I'm not surprised at those stats: the Twins believe in having bench players that are happy to be bench players- fringe major leaguers that- a) are happy to be drawing major league salaries are happy to play once a week (or less) and c) have the capabilities to play several positions defensively If you consider the lineup that Mollie appears to prefer, these are your late inning options- Fryer, Escobar, Robinson, and Nunez-absolutely pathetic. If by some chance the Twins make the playoffs, I could see all 4 gone, and if they don't change a couple of guys soon, they will not make the playoffs!!
  17. When the A's tied it up in the 9th, I thought: "ok, bring in May to pitch the rest of the way," like Rosterman said. IMHO, he is easily the best option other than Perkins. Sometimes, I think Mollie is loyal to a fault. I think he felt this was Fien's spot, and needed to go with him in that situation. I'm hoping he isn't saving May to be the long guy.
  18. Classy Dodger catcher- Roy Campanella
  19. One of my all-time favorite players- Justin Morneau!
  20. This may seem crazy, but Fryer is the superior catcher defensively. He and Suzuki will hit about the same- Fryer has the biggest upside though. What's everybody think?
  21. I agree 1000000%. I think he has been jacked around by the Twins, but people who have more knowledge than me insist he is a detriment defensively. Granted he is still dealing with concussion issues(apparently), but now is probably not the time to give him a shot.
  22. My best friend's cousin- Danny Dorn
  23. What he said. I could be wrong (I am sure someone has the stats), but in his major league appearances, everything appeared to be 'hard.' I remember Meyer saying last year how the change up had made him more effective and increased his strikeouts. Not his year. Couple the lack changing speeds with the utter lack of control, and magnify those with the fact that everything over the plate had been smoked, and you have a pitcher who is a long way from being a major league contributor. I think he needs to go back to AA (like Vargas) to get some coaching and hopefully find his confidence. I'm not giving up on him, but IMHO he's a long way from helping the big club.
