  1. Again no Martin, he has earned a shot at being an every day player. Yes he may be a placeholder for ERod and Jenkins but he should be the leadoff hitter and not Clemens. Why did they sign Bell if he isn't playing 1B, Clemens is not an every day player. This obsession with the handedness of hitters and pitchers has to balanced out.
  2. Hopefully Abel improves on his ace like performance today if you want him to lead us to the playoffs. I think there is potential there, but let's see some sustained production in the regular season before we anoint him a savior or even a set in stone member of the rotation.
  3. Remember this game when members of this board call for the Twins to piggyback pitchers. It doesn't work, they pitched the 6th and 7th innings as if they were more concerned with Abel getting his work in then trying to win the game. I know the bullpen is weak, but it was obvious Shelton managed the game differently today vs, yesterday. This was only one of the many reasons for the loss today, but we need to develop players throughout the roster that can actually play the game, get runs in and prevent runs.
  4. Bradley right now is a #5 pitcher, your top 3 has to give you more than 4 innings. Until he can command his stuff with consistency he will continue to be a back of the rotation pitcher who probably should move to the bullpen. If Abel builds off his strong spring he will be fun to watch but let's see what happens now that it counts.
  5. Culpepper should be playing shortstop, let the vets who are only organizational depth at this point play 3B and 2B. He is not a utility player at this point let him develop at short. It is one thing to flip between the corner outfield spots but Culpepper should not be getting moved around.
  6. Bradley was who he has been and why the Rays traded him. He has not been able to find consistency and does have good stuff. I really hope they can unlock something with him but otherwise I think he would be the candidate to move to the bullpen.
  7. No you should said better than Clemens, not compared to the rest of the league.
  8. Buxton, Keaschall, Wallner, Jeffers, Larnach, Martin, Bell. Martin earned a shot at playing full time this year based on last year, Clemens has not.
  9. No Clemens is not one of the better hitters on the team, he had a decent spring training but he has no upside. He was a waiver pickup riding his three week hot streak to immortality with the Twins.
  10. What is the fascination with Clemens, he is a role player and should get 200 AB's for the year. I know it is only the second game of the year but it really feels like they want Clemens to be a semi regular player. He had one good three week stretch in his whole career and that was last year. Martin earned a chance to be playing every day and should be given the chance but I don't think it's going to happen.
  11. On the fly ball to left, Martin didn't get behind the ball either but this goes back to development. They gave him minimal time in the outfield in the minors even though that was where it appeared he would end up. So now he is learning in the big leagues and yes he is a major league ballplayer but reps and being comfortable do matter. Remember this when Keaschall is thrown out there next. And I still like Martin but it looks like he will playing against LH pitching just like two years ago. As for pinch hitting for Lewis, if he is your one of your core players as their words and actions have said, you don't pinch hit for him in game 1. Now if he is struggling in May or June then that is a different story. I watched a little bit of Shelton's press conference after the game and it sure sounds like he is more concerned with what hand the pitcher throws from and hit a batter from the opposite side regardless of matchup or how that player is doing that day. So as others have said nothing has changed which was my biggest fear would happen. They do not want to develop players they just try to outsmart the other team on every matchup. But the best players ultimately win, so let's put our best players out there. And it is not Kody Clemens, who may end up being the new Margot.
  12. First I didn't understand the acquistion of Roden like others have pointed out. He is another prospect that plays a position that we have a surplus of prospects already. Will any of them make it be at least average or productive major leaguers, we will see. Outman had one good year, and at his age, his acquisition made not sense either. And I am not convinced his defense is that superior, I have seen enough misplayed fly balls from him that makes me question his defensive chops. A lot of comments say Outman will be gone by May or June if he doesn't produce and the kids will be called up. We don't know because we do not know how Zoll will operate. I am concerned he will be similar to Falvey and the only way someone comes up is thru injury. Just like Wallner two years ago was kept down for a month and a half longer than he should just so we could see guys like Margot flail away. I really hope there is a short leash and they give the kids a chance. You can't keep waiting until they are until 26 or 27 to see if they can make it here in the majors.
  13. I do not believe Gray would make the team over Martin. Unless he is the backup SS but that would mean Kreidler is sent to St. Paul. You can't keep both Gray and Kreidler on the roster.
  14. No they haven't changed. Keeping Outman around when he brings no real value to the organization is just more of the same business as usual. I am not sold on Roden but make him the fourth outfielder up here and not clog AB's for the kids in AAA. That is a better use of assets if you aren't going to bring any of them up. This team operates from a model of fear, ever since they had to go their 8th and 9th outfielders in 2022. No team could withstand that amount of injuries to one position and you can't operate like that will happen. Injuries happen and sometimes you can withstand the loss and other time there are just too many to overcome.
  15. I would put Clemens over there and make him your utility guy, you have enough options for 1B. Martin also played there two years ago. Why carry a guy that you don't want to use more than once a week with the limited options on the bench.
  16. If one of those players is the backup at SS that means Lee will be playing 140 games at SS unless Culpepper gets called up. So why not let Lewis be the backup SS, I have to believe he could be competent for 20 or 25 games over there. If Lee is injured, you would still have Kriedler in AAA or better yet could call up Culpepper. This allows you to keep a better player that will hopefully produce on the 26 man. I know a lot of people are down on Lewis but I think there is still something there and I think he could SS for a few games here and there. But I don't understand why you want to punt on a roster spot, when you only have 4 bench players.
  17. And he gave up 1 run in four innings. Even last year when he came back from injury he pitched better. I get velocity is nice but we can't always ignore results. And his stuff has always played up due to his length. I am less worried about Ober, he can get batters out the old fashioned way by pitching.
  18. Let Keaschall play one position to learn and get comfortable with that position. We have seen he has a lot of work to do to play the outfield. So let him play 2B where he looks more comfortable and learn the position. Stop making everyone into utility players. I want to see the 12 best position players make the roster plus whoever whoever is the backup SS. Yes I know positions matter as well, but I don't like having Wagaman on the roster just to balance the roster. He brings limited defense and very little offense, there are players having better camps.
  19. Piggybacking doesn't work in the real world. The game situation starting the 7th inning is going to dictate pitching matchups and you can't just assume who ever comes in to pitch second will get more than two innings.
  20. I agree with your points here. The difference, they are not talking about moving Keaschall to LF. This article is about having him play some LF along with 2B. And the reason to do this is to get Clemens in the lineup. Even for one game, this is misguided, if 2B is his position Let him play there every day and learn the position and get better at it. Now if Lee and Culpepper are both just raking and we need their bat's in the lineup and the corner outfielders are not producing then I would be in favor of moving Keaschall to LF on a permanent basis to get the better bats in the lineup. But just for a game here and there to get a lesser bat in the lineup, why would you do that.
  21. Yes having one or two versatile guys can be helpful, but we are talking about Keaschall. And they are not talking about getting a Kaline or Northrup into the lineup, they are talking about getting Clemens into the lineup. That makes no sense and you know it. The backup shortstop will be the utility player, you don't need every player to play multiple positions.
  22. Not every player is a utility player or is comfortable moving around. Ben Zobrist started out as a utility player and made himself into an everyday player. Betts is the exception to the rule. The Twins have subpar defense at almost every position, let a player develop at a position and see if they have the ability. This isn't a board game where you can just move players around because it sounds like a good idea.
  23. This isn't about moving Keaschall to LF, per Shelton it is about playing him there in addition to 2B. Everyone mentioned above moved positions except for Cuddyer who played multiple positions. If you want to move him to LF that is a different discussion but to put him in the lineup and play LF to get Clemens in the lineup is madness.
  24. Shelton's quote shows how maddening this strategy is. You want to move what should be one of your better players to a different position so you can fit Clemens into the lineup. The goal needs to be to put your best lineup out there everyday with regular positions. If players like Clemens are limited by position capabilities which I don't think he is, then find different bench players that compliment your best players and their positions. Most players play better when they are comfortable and can play the same position and bat in the same place in the lineup, they are creatures of habit. Mookie Betts is the exception not the rule. Why do we keep moving players around to fit in lesser players in the lineup. Clemens is a nice role player that should get around 200 AB's and maybe pinch hit in the later innings. Aim higher for once please.
