  1. the traditional closer role is becoming less defined. This is a narrative that keeps being pushed and it is not true. The winning teams have a true closer and they pitch them primarily in the 9th inning that is what the stats say. Not everyone can close games, it is a mindset along with the skills, remember Ron Davis.
  2. What is the fascination with Stewart and Topa in thinking they will help this bullpen. Stewart has never pitched more than 30 innings in a season so counting on him to be a fixture in the bullpen is foolhardy. Topa is in his 30's and has had one good season, again hoping he can be a fixture is doing a lot of hoping. Get somebody that has a proven track record and can actually help the bullpen.
  3. Yes Santana has been a decent pickup but he should not be leading the team in AB's. He has had one month where he is above league average in OPS. He needs to playing only against LH pitching and used as a defensive replacement. Kirilloff was outperforming him in April and currently Miranda is having AB's taken away because Santana is being deployed everyday at 1B. So no we would not be flailing at 1B without him, but I believe his contributions are being overvalued. Everyone overlooks some of the plays he has missed at first, you have to take those into account along with the plays he has made.
  4. Now we will get to see Margot butcher flyballs in CF, I just don't get this anymore.
  5. And in other games Rocco brings Margot in for defense in the later innings, I have seen better routes on a flyball by a Little Leaguer.
  6. I don't think we will have success outside of the regular season with Falvey in charge, I assume Levine is in lockstep with him or he would have left by now. Their philosophy is to play the odds over 162 games and yes you will have some success by doing that, but in a short series in the playoffs you need to have the better players and we don't because we platoon everyone and worry about matchups, And they set the roster to support this. They have modernized the front office but have done so at the expense of traditional scouting, you need both. I don't think they have developed hitters, we will see if some start to come thru. They try to change players to fit their mold rather than tweaking their existing swing to be more productive. I think blaming the Pohlads is to easy, yes I wish they hadn't cut payroll but Falvey chose to use his limited resources on Farmer, Margot and Santana. And they are all short side platoon players even if they are playing Santana every day even though he can't hit RH pitching above league replacement. It's not like they have Miami's payroll and they did sign two long term contracts.
  7. I agree but then again this is the team giving Lewis a mental reset day when you need to playing your best players against another playoff team. It's not like we only have 30 games left, there is plenty of time to catch Cleveland.
  8. Wallner is showing he needs to be in the lineup every day regardless of who is pitching. Stop with the platoon nonsense and play your best players.
  9. Because the switch hitting slugger Santana needs to be in the lineup everyday since obviously he has a favorable matchup every time he comes to the plate.
  10. It could be the 9 runs in two innings.
  11. They will not start over, read the earlier comments, they will resume from where it ended and it will probably tonight.
  12. In what world do you have Farmer hitting 5th when you are contending for the playoffs.
  13. Farmer was on a rehab so if he had no setbacks, they would have had to activate him within 20 days once he started the rehab. Lee's injury just accelerated the timeline. He probably would have been back on the roster within a week of starting the rehab.
  14. Rocco just got played, Wallner is a better option than Farmer against both LH and RH pitching.
  15. What team have you been watching. They absolutely do platoon every LH batter. The only reason Kepler has started recently against LH pitching is because Buxton is on the IL and they have to start a LH hitting OF. This is why Margot is 0 for in pinch hitting because they have decided all LH batters can't hit LH pitching. This team holds to a very rigid belief in splits and has not developed any of their LH batters to hit against lefties. This is why Santana leads the team in AB's because he switch hits, not because of performance against RH pitching. The whole basis of their operation is to platoon as many positions as possible.
  16. I was at the game last night and was sitting behind the dugout and am wondering if Rocco was in the dugout. Letting Larnach hit against a LH would indicate he wasn't.
  17. But his OPS is well below Miranda's and that is really who he is taking AB's from. My frustration is he leads the team in AB's not because he is the best player but because of their rigidity to the platoon system. And since he is a switch hitter, they think he can play regardless of who is pitching and he is not good against RH and their is a better option available.
  18. No, he has had one good month offensively, and is batting .182 this month. Yes he has had a couple of moments where he has had a key hit but his offense is league average at best. He should not be leading the team in AB's but because he is a switch hitter they will run him out there every day, despite the fact he can't hit right handed pitching. He should be starting against LH and be a defensive replacement and Miranda should be at first. Lewis hasn't even played 100 games at 3B, it is way too early to write him off there.
  19. You are not going to be able to get Correa, Buxton, Lewis and Miranda all in the lineup if you resign Santana especially with the philosophy of this front office and manager. Santana would be the fulltime first baseman because he is a switch hitter. So the only way to get Miranda in the lineup is to move Lewis to the OF and I don't think that is happening. I still think it is too soon to say whether Lewis is a bust at third, he has barely 100 games if that many at the position, he needs more reps there.
  20. Miranda has sat the last two nights, because Rocco insists on playing Santana every day. Miranda needs to be playing more and Santana needs to be the defensive replacement at 1B especially against RH pitching. Santana is below league average hitting RH pitching.
  21. The problem is we will not see Miranda on a FT basis even when the others are back. Rocco is insisting on playing Santana everyday at first. This puts Miranda on the bench and Santana just does not hit RH's well. He gets a big hit occasionally and that is great but because he is switch hitter he is deemed to be an every day player, it is not based on productivity.
  22. Yes I know, he still should not be sitting 2 days in a row. Play him at 1B and bring Santana in for defense in the late innings.
