    It appears the ship has sailed on Bauer, I will be very surprised if he pitches in the major leagues again. There have been teams that have been woefully short on starting pitching and he has not received a call. He has apparently burned his bridges in the major leagues. To continue bringing up his name as an option is just an exercise of futility.

    Nance is not going anywhere, the only option to send anyone down out of the bullpen is Adams and possibly Funderburk even though he has pitched better of late.

    Rojas is very intriguing and he has done well in St. Paul and he did well in shorter outings up here other than the walks. But I find the comments interesting in that a lot of comments feel he can give us 5 innings while only giving up a couple of runs. First that is pure projection on the number of runs, because the success he is having in St Paul would have to translate up here. But we are currently getting that from Preilipp, Ober and Matthews so why would you move one of them from the rotation, they are giving us what we need right now. Especially Ober, how can you take a veteran pitcher out of the rotation and insert another young pitcher into the mix in the middle of a playoff push. Now if there is another injury, the first pitcher I want called up is Rojas, I would be excited to see what he can do. But I don't think he should replace anyone unless there is an injury.

    So by your logic, the plan wasn't for Lewis at 3B, Keaschall at 2B or Lee at SS until Culpepper was ready since that is not what they stuck with. You do know plans can change. You have to look at the time of the signing not at today. I am definitely glad Bell is not playing in the field currently but I do believe that was the plan. They had no identifiable replacement for France at the time. They had no way to know if Clemens would replicate 2025 or come close to it in December of 2025 not today. That is why I believe the signing was made and was a poor decision from that standpoint. You made a declarative statement that it clearly wasn't, do you have some quotes to show this. I feel pretty confident based on public reporting at the time but if there were direct quotes at the time contradicting this please let me know.

    This is why I wonder if we can count on him for a start in the playoffs. We need him but which Taj will show up.

    They are definitely fun to watch but can they take the next step to be a competitive team and take advantage of the work Shelty is doing in the dugout. I personally don't think Zoll is the one to do it, this team has been basically a .500 team with him being one of the key decision makers and advisor to Falvey.

    The defense that is borderline terrible was also constructed with the assistance of Zoll. He made some good deadline moves, but he has helped lead us to the roster construction that we currently have and wish was better.

    I agree especially considering they are now not using 2 roster spots. They don't even trust Roden who is an outfielder to come in for defensive purposes in the late innings. So there are no AB's available for these guys.

    All the reporting at the time of the signing said Bell was signed to play 1B and Clemens would slide into a utility role. I believe Falvey even came out and said this. Their plan was to rotate the DH position. Just because Bell can't play 1B doesn't mean they didn't sign him to play 1B. His signing was to replace France.

    Jenkins led off the Saints game with a HR again, he's doing everything he can to force a decision.

    He probably won't see the field again until spring training.

    No I don't think they should sign someone to be DH only. For one I am not sure if there is a quality bat out there who would fit but also this team likes flexibility, why handicap yourself with a bat only player like Bell this year. They have four outfielders if it plays out as you laid out which I believe it will. They all need regular AB's so rotating thru the DH spot accomplishes that. I think that was the original plan this year was to rotate the DH maybe with Larnach being there more. They did not sign Bell to be the DH, he was signed to be the first baseman which was a huge miss by Falvey, don't make the same mistake this offseason.

    I love the fight in this team, they don't give up. Bradley needs to give us more than 5 innings if he is going to considered a top of the rotation arm. He still has too many times where he just loses control. This has always been his issue and hopefully he can find the solution because when he is on he can be very dominating.

    Actually Lewis wasn't that bad at third, he was moved after being sent down after struggling at the plate. But both players were so bad at their positions the moves should have been made before the season. Changing to positions that they have never played before, there is a going to be a learning curve. And to expect otherwise is not reasonable. They have been two of our best hitters the last couple of months so you have to take the good with the misplays.

    What does Keaschall have to do to be considered basically a lock for a starting position next year. We know about his defense, but some of this is on the coaching to get him competent at a position. He has been our best hitter since May, he needs to be in the starting lineup day 1 next year.

    This is what happens when you move players around to new positions in the middle of the season. There are going to be mistakes.

    How was that on Royce, he's holding the runner on and has to range way to his right, even if he gets to it, who is he throwing it to, Fundy was nowhere near the bag.

    You are probably correct but I don't think he wants to be on the road 7 months out of the year.

    'Why aren't you applying that same logic to every other player that has been in a slump. I don't hate Roden, but he hasn't shown that he is anymore than a 4th outfielder at best and if he can't be trusted to be a defensive replacement in the late innings than where is his value.

    I was referring to Roden, who they didn't put in there last night. As I recall when he was traded for, he was supposedly plus average defensively.

    By that logic Clemens should have benched the first half of August, Buxton before he went on the IL and Bell for the month of July. Slumps happen and right now Larnach has earned the right to play thru it until you have a better option. And it's not Roden, they didn't even trust him to play defense in the 9th inning last night.

    Trevor is hitting .269 with an OPS of .778 this year, I am not sure how you can say he hasn't earned playing time. If you are going to replace him, do it with someone with more upside or who has actually produced this year and Roden hasn't in 3 different stints in the major leagues.

    I am not worried about where they play in the outfield, Roden has not done anything defensively or at the plate to say give me more playing time and Larnach has.

    He has earned his playing time this year, he is in a slump and maybe shouldn't be in there every day. But Roden has not done anything to say give me regular playing time.
