  1. I think Milone will have a solid year.
  2. Im going to give Duffey the benefit of the doubt. He has been trying to learn the spike curveball all spring....he he
  3. Why is it that Duffey puts up poor numbers in spring training and he is said to be "having a rough spring" and others who's numbers are not good are said to be "working on some pitches?" I don't care if Nolasco throws no hitters for the remainder of spring training. I still put May in the rotation and ask questions later. If anything, Duffey could help us in the pen. That's his native habitat. May has been a starter.
  4. Yes but if you compare AFLOP and SUBPAR metrix to WHIP and BREF, it paints an entirely different picture. Nolasco will win the Cy Young award obviously. Can't believe I'm the only one who recognizes this.
  5. I agree on it making more sense to have Dozier hitting after Mauer.
  6. I stick him in the 2 hole with Escobar leading off, Dozier third and Sano forth then tell him to relax and focus on OBP and hitting nice line drives to all fields and working the pitch count. Those are his core strengths.
  7. Totally different sport and method of body prep. NFL guys prep for a much shorter career than MLB types.
  8. Not to rain on this entertaining thread or anything. But, I look at it this way. If you were coach of an American Legion baseball team and you were holding tryouts, would you pick Nolasco to be in your starting rotation? To the person who will inevitably say, "The Twins are not a legion baseball team," save your breath. I realize that. But, surely this serves as an example of how far asset management has pulled the Twins from the reality of fielding your top guys from opening day. Berrios, May, and Duffey would all be ahead of Nolasco in my book. The starting rotation is the backbone of any team. Ryan just doesn't stray quite far enough from pure asset management in my mind.
  9. As a larger framed person, I can attest to what Ortiz is saying. When he dives and sprints he will feel it much longer than a prototypical outfielder will. It's not a matter of what he is capable of doing. It's a matter of what it will do to him. That's why I'm so against this move to the outfield. He is a rare talent and for a team obsessed with asset management, this is a poor decision.
  10. I had forgotten Duffey was a closer in college. For me, the rotation is Gibson, Santana, Hughes, May, Berrios. Milone to long relief and Duffey to the pen. I have enjoyed quite enough of Nolasco's circus music. He just is not very good any more. Why the team needs more evidence of that just frustrates me.
  11. I would rather see Orourke, Burdi, Chargois round out our pen instead of rule 5ers, reclamation projects or guys we are afraid to DFA(see the past 4-5 years for examples). Arcia will make the team. He is not the most ready guy to help the team from opening day. Kepler is way more mature with his at bats. Plouffe will play 3b while our MVP will relocate to right field and play lesser defense than Kepler could. Add Nolasco to the list somewhere. If your a guy fighting to get to the majors I doubt you care about poor Ricky or asset management. If your a starting lineup guy, I doubt you care as much about asset management as you do surrounding yourself with the best possible guys from opening day. Biggest problem facing the Twins is Ryan's aversion to either fishing or cutting bait on any level. Rather, he delays everything as long as possible while avoiding making decisive decisions.
  12. OUTFIELD - ROSARIO, KEPLER, BUXTON 3B SANO SS ESCOBAR 2B DOZIER 1B MAUER DH PARK C MURPHY BENCH - SANTANA, PLOUFFE, POLANCO, SUZUKI
  13. I'm all for some platooning. But, Arcia does not excite me as an option. They can try to hoard him on the mlb roster but he won't play enough to evolve. My opinion, prime DFA candidate and I don't mind if we lose him.
  14. Though I tend to agree for the most part regarding the handling of Kepler and Polanco types, I also think there is value in grouping your top prospects together for building continuity and feeding off one another's successes and failures. Growing in to it together so to speak. Utilizing one another. Helping one another up the ladder. Even if it means not playing every day. Example, if you feel your outfield will ultimately be Buxton, Rosario and Kepler, you could argue that they become a solid/cohesive unit faster by working on it together. Not conventional thinking I know. but, think about it.
  15. I hope you are right about the opening day roster. I agree, the team should be exciting to watch. I just feel that their roster decisions are predictable.
  16. For me it's just about watching the Twins in general. I don't really hold out hope that there will be any surprises regarding the opening day roster. I envision fairly predictable roster decisions resulting in the "all asset management" team. Milone and Nolasco will be in the rotation. Outfielders will be Santana, Arcia, Sano, Rosario and the winner of Mastro and Benson. Just very yawn.
  17. I believe what homer hankey meant is that Sano and Mauer rotate between 1b and dh with both in the lineup together. As for trading Park, anyone is tradeable for the right price.
  18. I don't like him in the outfield. I think it's an injury waiting to happen. I think it's poor asset management and unnecessary risk with a cornerstone type player. I would move other pieces around to accommodate my premier players. Not the other way around.
  19. I'm in!!
  20. Darn it! Now I can't be on both sides of the same issue any more.
  21. I think Terry Ryan must feel optimistic that some of these young guys are ready to be pulled out of the oven and placed on a serving tray. That should make for a very exciting spring training!
