    I expect Mr. Ryan's response took everyone by surprise, as the plan was for him to actually tweak himself trying to complete the play, and then to throw it away in the process giving an extra base to the runner. This classic insult to injury move was foiled by Ryan's response.

    I too was intrigued... I looked at box score, and indeed, final 3 innings was meant there. But just figured i'd point out walks don't count as at bats, so bases need not be loaded to satisfy the last three at bats restriction.

    If we are giving Mr. Buxton a break late in a game which is already decided, and want to see how Mr. Gordon handles a pinch hit opportunity, perhaps it makes sense.

    No.... pretty sure my handle choice predates his at bat. But it fits. I went searching a year or two afterwards for the comment what had seeded the idea for my handle, but was looking at things at a career level, that most people only get one career...

    What's that leaf shaped flag in the picture? I didn't know they had leaves in the Bronks. And coping with complex situations, it often helps to see it from all points of view. Think how it must feel to be a Yankee or a fan of that team, mercilessly crushing the Twins at every opportunity. Must be pretty good... (I'm playing the long game here, knowing the if we succeeded at this, the Twins would win just to spite us)

    I think Simmons fielding percentage of airborn covid globules headed my way is probably somewhat short of Pfizer or Moderna in effectiveness, but may be could give Janssen a run for its money, as well AstraZenica. Definitely I'd give Simmons the starting job over Sputnik Zifivax and Abdala. Neither am i sure i would trust any other middle infielder over him. And at $10 million he is well below the R&D costs of anything on the market. His problem is that he doesn't scale at all. . It would take more than a decade before new Simmonses might become viable defenders in their own right , and who knows what variants he will be effective against? So even if he is good enough, there isn't much he can do to stem the tide of the pandemic, and that sets him up for unrealistic expectations. And as for baseball, keep him around! I personally will be just as disappointed if they let him go early as i would be if they let Buxton go.

    Pretty sure they charge for tickets to minor league games too, just perhaps not as much money, nor of quite so many fans... (well, there was this one time when the box office's credit card machine wasn't working, and they quietly gave tickets anyway, but that's just the exception (and not even one that proves the rule at that))

    Is the plural of col. mustard cols. mustard? They mighta done more than you saw... I thought the word "up" was superfluous, myself. Woulda been more appropriate if they had meant mustard instead of mustered, as you butter things up, but you muster the troops. All leaving me confused by the sentence, betwixt and between.

    Yes. (I knew i'd heard the name before) Mets selected him in the 2014 rule v draft. Since then, he has been with the Cardinals, Orioles, Rays, and Ducks, per his wikipedia page.

    You both beat me to it, but i am pleased that some any people here think like me. Well, except neither of you pointed out the obvious, that Astudillo pitching implies mop up duties, which implies a lack of base level joy, so we should be safe from overload here. Unless Ohtani deposits a 3-0 offering in hell. But with the coming apocolypse, we will have bigger concerns at that point.
