    A couple of notes - first, I've read posts saying that CQ is a low risk, high reward signing. Dunno that I'd call CQ high reward. His best year from the plate was 2008 - .288/.394/.985. Career line of .252/.347/.831. IF...and it's a big if...he can hit his career average, it's a decent signing. Recent stats would indicate those expectations are unrealistic. Second, I've read that CQ is an insurance policy in case Park struggles. If he's an insurance policy, I've got some great universal coverage policies to peddle to the Twins. Third, I've read the CQ was signed to "light a fire" under some of the other guys - Arcia, etc. Look, either you have it or you don't. If you need to have a fire lit under you, you don't have it. Self motivated people are far more successful than those who need a kick in the pants and usually pass up people who need a kick in the pants because the boss's leg gets tired.

    Agree with savvy. Feel like I'm looking at the candidates for the presidency and, like that decision, looking for the "None of the above" box.

    "Suspect at best"...yeah, it was bad. "he is capable of approaching .300 with good power if he doesn't try to crush every pitch"...agree, but I think the issue was that he still tried to crush every pitch even when they tried to change that approach. Not listening to your boss tends to lead to being forgotten at promotion time.

    The only guys I'd consider trading are Nolasco (obviously, we would have to pay some of the contract) and Arcia. At this point, Arcia doesn't fit on this team. We don't need a DH at this point. Arcia in the outfield is a defensive liability that his bat doesn't make up for. So, other than a lefty bat that will swing for the fence and occasionally put one there, Arcia really doesn't bring much to the table.

    I would love to argue that Nolasco won't be in the starting rotation, but I can't. Money talks and we are paying him a lot of money. Even if he gets belted around in ST and Berrios, Duffey, or anyone else is untouchable, Nolasco will still get every opportunity to fail at a major league level.

    Remember also that in 2014, we batted some ridiculous percentage with men in scoring position. I would say 2014 was the outlier.

    I think there is a chance that May is the closer by the end of the year. The wheels have started to wobble on Perk.

    That's right. They gave up quite a bit for Samardzija and that never panned out. It's interesting because I don't see the moves that they are making as putting them in position to compete with the Royals. Does anyone have a steeper cliff in front of them than Detroit? Although, they do have Kate Upton in the clubhouse...or do they?

    Wait! Does this mean that the Sox are "All In"?....again. If I remember right, they kind of mortgaged the future with the Peavy trade. After that, their farm system was one of the worst in baseball. Now they are once again trading away the farm and going all in baby! Gotta love those Sox.

    I think you see Sano in the outfield this year and transitioned to first base as Joe declines into DH/part time fielder.

    ...if you don't think about it. Also, Esco is one of those guys that makes the clubhouse and enjoyable place to be through a long season. Sort of the glue that holds the team together.

    How do you guys feel that Hicks will do under the scrutiny of the NY media/fans? I don't see this being a good fit for him. I don't mind the trade, I think it opens the door for Sano at 3rd if we move Plouffe to left and then gives the DH to Park. It makes sense from that aspect.

    There's an incremental value to having an ace. Now, instead of Gibson going against another clubs #1, he's going against their 2 or their 3 if Santana is the 2. It can have a cascading effect on your pitching rotation. That said, don't trade for it in the off season. If you trade for an ace, do it in July.

    The big thing for me is that the Yankees are out of the playoffs....all is right in the world.

    One more note on Francona. Do you want your young gun to show up an up and coming divisional opponent with a lot of good young players that you are going to have to deal with for years to come? They will remember. Molly will remember. He's wise to do damage control.

    Well, from Francona's point of view, the last thing you need is some young punk player doing/saying anything to get the opponent that you play tomorrow fired up. Generally, the payback is against the next batter followed by a warning/ejection. Don't need that either. The reality is that you just lost 2 of 3 at home...what's to celebrate? You want to celebrate your highlight in the 1 game that you won? Fabulous. Celebrate all the way to a .333 winning record and a front row seat on your couch to watch the playoffs on TV.
