  1. Otherwise known as Aunt Happybutt...gladass, happy butt, what's the diff?
  2. You would have thought they would have had a female chuckar with a baby in her arms....a mother chukar!
  3. Well done sir! I will be expanding on that fireworks theme in Friday's game thread as it is Fireworks Friday.
  4. I'll be the contrarian here. We buy...but we don't rent. We buy if there is someone who we feel will help us long term. Pitching is the most obvious, but everyone needs pitching and the only pitching we should be moving right now is Santiago. I'd love to see some of the young guys be given a shot at that 5th rotation spot. Mejia looks good and what is most impressive is that guys look baffled by him the 2nd and 3rd time thru the lineup...not so with Gibson, but as a 4th guy in the rotation, we could do worse. I'd hang on to him for now. Long term, we are going to need a big league bat. Our DH spot is not strong. Grossman gets on base and fills the role, but DH is a game changer spot. As much as people beat up Joe, he's really, really good at first base. We take it for granted, but you don't realize how important the position is until you have a weak link over there. Our defense is very solid right now. Polanco at SS is better than we thought he would be and Sano has made some great plays at 3rd and is solid. Dozier at 2nd adds stability and makes the plays that he should. Esco and Adrianza as backups is a luxury. Our catching is pretty good too. I wouldn't sell much. I'd buy for the long term.
  5. Two stats that I wish were kept are wasted pitches by a pitcher (pitches that are so far out of the strike zone that they do not challenge a hitter) and wasted swings by a batter (pitches that are swung at that are not close to the strike zone). It seems like when a hitter is in the zone, they stay back, explode on the ball that is in the strike zone. When they are not in the zone, they make up their mind too early to swing and swing at pitches that they have little chance of getting a bat on. On the other side of the ball, it drives me nuts to see a pitcher try to go high in the zone and throw a pitch that is higher than the batters head or try to throw an outside pitch and watch it sail a foot outside.
  6. Baseball and the buffet been berry berry good to him.
  7. Mejia is turning into a pretty good pitcher. That slider is a weapon.
  8. Signed - Bert Blyleven...the writer forgot that part.
  9. I feel like I really only need to watch the Twins on the days when Erv and The Machine pitch. It's tough to be down about the Chicago series...we won the series! The 9-0 loss didn't bother me as much as watching Turley try to throw fastball after fastball (93 mph) past MLB hitters and then watching them fly over the fence or get smoked. And then I start thinking that there wasn't anyone in the minors better than him? That's when the depression sets in. It makes be wonder when Gimenez is going to get to start a ballgame on the mound.
  10. Not going to be too gloom and doomy over the loss. I think we mailed this in after the first inning disaster. What did frustrate me was that the first thing I taught my kid when he was learning to pitch was how important it was to throw a first pitch strike. The odds of getting the batter out went way up. He got it. The second thing was not to throw two pitches the same speed twice in a row until he could throw 100 mph (he was 9). He got it. Nik Turley doesn't get it. How many 93 mph fastballs was he planning on throwing if they had left him in?
  11. Please let the Nik turley experiment be over.
  12. We've won two in a row...are we surging?
  13. "fading club"...we're 1.5 out! Rosario lacks discipline and consistency, but he loves the pressure. He's a gamer. He will get there.
  14. Ladies and gents, I apologize. I checked out for about a week and we went on a 4 day losing streak. Last night, I tuned in to the game...you know the results. That Cleveland debacle is on me. OK, so here we sit 1.5 out with some obvious holes to fill, but at least we are only 1.5 out! Compared to where I feared we would be and compared to last year, I'll take it. A few key injuries could throw us into a tailspin, but the same could be said for every team. I love our outfield...minus Grossman but even that could be worse as I watched the pale hose RF commit errors 8 and 9 on back to back pitches last night. I'm starting to love our infield. I don't love our starting pitching and I can't even think about our bullpen. We dodged a bullet last night, but we didn't manage to dodge any against Cleveland, so it all evens out. We need a winning streak...like a 5 gamer. One down, 4 to go.
  15. Uh boy...I feel like we are playing scared. Kinda like we are beat before we take the field. I guess if you look at our starters and know that our BP is pretty bad, we kinda are. Well, let's hope we can win one and at least come out of the weekend with a share of first place.
  16. On vacation in Florida with the family. Was hoping to somehow catch the game as the clouds are gathering for the typical Florida afternoon thunderstorm. No luck finding the game (not surprised), so I am watching Naked and Afraid. They are naked and I am afraid. Who signs up for this?
  17. I get that, but I also know that it is easier to attract the pieces we need to put us over the top if we make the playoffs. Erv is also a great mentor for the potential ace that we have in Berrios.
  18. I maintain that any team in contention should not be sellers. Once you make the playoffs, anything can happen. The hot team wins...not necessarily the best team. The Astros should win the WS this year...but one stumble and they are on the couch with the rest of us. What was the Twins record in 1987? At 85-77 we were considered the worst team in the playoffs.
  19. Up or down? Whenever I find myself getting down about our Twins, I remind myself of the expectations going into the season...kinda puts it all in perspective. First place on June 6? Never dreamed it. Robby Grossman doing well at DH? I was critical of keeping him on the team over Park. As far as this series, win 1 of 3 and we are still 4-3 on the road trip. Win 1 of 3 against the Giants and we are 5-5 for the road trip and that's all you need to do AS LONG AS you win 6 of 10 at home...and that seems to be the tough part so far this year. I expect it to even out as the year goes on.
  20. One of the few times Gibson has pitched when I DON'T want the bullpen to come in.
  21. Kintzler has an attack the strike zone attitude. I think his attitude is perfect for a closer and I wouldn't remove him from that role.
  22. "Gee Wally...." Not sure how many times I heard that watching Leave It to Beaver....which made me think of one of the top Angels of all time - Wally Joyner...which got me thinking to the greatest Twins of all time....
