  1. I once changed my work profile picture to a picture of Brad Pitt. It didn't go over well. Therefore, I do it here where I can get away with it. When my boss called me on it, I told them I was doing the rest of the company a favor. Who would they rather look at - Brad Pitt or me? He didn't even crack a smile.
  2. While it's fun to mull over what the Twins should/could do. Put yourself in Detroit's shoes for a minute. They have some aging pieces that they need to replace. Farm teams that could sure use an injection of talent. They are kind of floundering around in a winnable division. What to do, what to do?
  3. I'm kind of getting a feeling that as much as I'd like to see some improvements on the roster, this roster has gelled and moving someone would upset the apple cart. They look like they like each other and are having fun. Not every team can say that.
  4. Wow! I'd love to say that's what I was thinking, but I can't. Home shutouts just don't happen that often and for some reason, I was thinking that Baltimore hadn't been shut out at home in a long time...I need another beer.
  5. Does anybody like Married with Children here? Could you explain it to me? I've seen it some recently and it really doesn't seem to hold up at all. Used to watch it religiously. Made me feel really good about my family!
  6. No, I thought they had not been shut out at home in a long time. Being 15-4 coming into the series, I figured it hadn't happened this year...I'm surprised.
  7. Checked...lost to the Rays 2-0 at home on April 25.
  8. Wow! Any unbelievers left out there? First time in an eternity that the O's have been shut out at home.
  9. Possibly following the Al Bundy routine of coming home, sitting on the couch in front of the TV with a beer. Keep a close eye on him between innings. If he puts his hand down his pants, he's Al Bundy.
  10. I don't agree with this. I see what you are trying to say, but let's take a look from another angle. We are 7-1 against the Royals, but the Royals have a .409 winning percentage. We all know that teams go thru hot streaks and cold streaks. When you play a team is as important as who you play. To me, 2-4 vs. the Tigers and Indians is like saying we aren't as good as them...and yet we are 7-1 against a .409 team. So, if we are worse than the Tigers and Indians, are we that much better than the Royals? If so, shouldn't the Tigers and Indians be undefeated against the Royals? We beat a team last night that is was 15-4 at home. What does that tell us? The answer is nothing. Baseball is about how you play over the course of the season and, so far, we've done OK. Who we have played or haven't played means very little. How we perform in a series or a game or against another team means next to nothing. How we play over the course of the season is all that matters. There's gonna be ups and downs and we will play good teams that are cold and bad teams that are hot. Overall, the cream rises to the top.
  11. If only this were NFL format. Then we would be advertising that we are taking Greene no matter if we are or not. SD would then trade up with us and we would get who we probably wanted anyway along with another of their picks or we could get a prospect in the trade....but it isn't the NFL draft. Take him, sign him, and then trade him to SD for a boatload of prospects.
  12. Well, we are a quarter of the way into the season and things are beginning to take shape. I hear the "wait until we play the good teams" calls, but if you look at what we have and compare it to other teams, we're looking pretty good. We have a game changer roaming center field and when he gets on base, he's the kind of guy that makes a pitcher rush his pitches to the plate and catchers worry. Sano is also a game changer. He's one of the best hitters in the game. He hits the ball sooo hard that his exit velocity is nearly 4 mph higher than anyone else in the league. Berrios could be a game changer...we'll see. Polanco is a pleasant surprise so far. He's not spectacular, but as long as he hits...and he can hit...all he has to be is solid in the field. Rosario is quietly having a solid season. I'll take .275 and solid D in left field. Kepler is good and will continue to get better. I haven't even mentioned Dozier and Mauer. So, where are we at? We need an upgrade near the back of the rotation. We need better offensive production from the catcher position. We need more power from the DH position to protect Sano. We need more cowbell...for God's sake, more cowbell. I'm not opposed to trading prospects to meet those needs, but the future is looking pretty good already. I don't think we need to pull an "all in" like the White Sox...how'd that work out?
  13. But he looked great in the last inning!...much like that girl at the bar at closing time.
  14. Buxtton may be 1 for his last 11, but he has hit some ropes right at guys.
  15. Hitting is indeed contagious. Let's hope the O's don't catch the bug.
  16. I think this is appropriate given the weather lately.
  17. I am a believer now...a converted negative Nelly, I suppose. That said, I just want the rain to stop, the sun to shine, and our Twins it win one of these games in Baltimore. While I'm sure the guys could use a days rest after yesterday's double header, I'm not sure a rain out is the right answer.
  18. I was pulling for Hughes to have a good year. Given is lack of overpowering stuff, I gotta give him props. He knows how to pitch and set up a hitter. If he didn't, he would have gotten smacked around a lot worse. I hope he can take what's in his head and download it to some of the young guys. I don't expect him or Perkins to make an appearance the rest of the year.
  19. Almost forgot. Yesterday, my wife went to a meeting where Ron Darling spoke. They gave out prizes and she ends up with a baseball signed by Ron Darling, Keith Hernandez, and "some other guy". I ask who and she says "I don't know, but his signature looks like Santa Claus or something with an S". I spend the day wondering who played with Hernandez and Darling and I can't figure out anything until she comes home with the baseball and I see the signature with the #34. It's signed by Noah Syndergaard....uhm yeah...he's one of the best pitchers in the game. #Thor....her response - "oh, he has got to cut that hair, that's just unattractive".
  20. No there isn't...matter of fact there aren't any French restaurants here...except that the origin of the word restaurant is French. So, I guess you could say there are a whole bunch of French restaurants here...and everywhere. Minerva's is probably the best in Sioux Falls, but there are a number of good eateries here.
  21. Living near Sioux Falls and working for one of those banks, I can attest to the population imbalance and the existence of rogue oranges, basketballs, and automobiles...basicly anything that rolls. I've found many rogue golf balls and have lost many that simply rolled away into oblivion. The bank thing actually started in the early eighties when then governor Bill (Wild Bill) Janklow shook hands with Citibank when they were expanding their credit card footprint. South Dakota removed the limits to how much interest could be charged that were in existence in New York. The avalanche of credit card companies (banks) began and still exists (although it has calmed down considerably as other states caught on). Not only do we not have a corporate income tax, we don't have a personal income tax either. Property taxes on the other hand....
  22. Totally agree, but Grossman has a .400 OBP, which we needed a base runner in that situation. Why are we using Pressly in this game? Seems more like a mop up roll kinda day. I was wondering yesterday who we could get to replace Grossman...bottom line is, we shouldn't have traded away Hicks.
  23. OMG! Just realized that the 16 game HR streak is in jeopardy!
