I don't know how much baseball all of us posters have played in our lives, but I just want to note that anyone even sniffing the big leagues does not 'suck' at baseball.

I feel like I'm reading the name Nate Baez often lately. Any of our prospect evaluators out there have any updates? Is he becoming someone to watch or maybe just on a bit of a heater? How about his catching ability, does he have a chance back there? Sorry if I missed any potential article(s) that would have covered this.

Is Matt Wallner Still a Viable MLB Bat?
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'd see about signing Brandon Belt at this point. With Kirilloff logging OF time and Santana at 1B, there are DH reps. -
On a serious note though, I agree that guys should be able to pitch multiple innings and the AAA-shuttle can be used. One thing that did come to mind during the Jackson and Okert acquisitions though was the relievers with options have tightened, so if the out of options guys struggle and the optionable guys perform, the Twins might have some tough decisions. All in all though, if that is the case no one is really making that much outside of Thielbar, so it really shouldn't be that hard of decision.

I think a 12-man staff with a 3rd catcher would probably allow for the roster to reach its full potential.

Brewers are flush with young outfielders though, so the ideas of similar packages the Twins could have offered where Rodriguez or Gonzalez replace Joey Oritz wouldn't likely be as attractive to the Brewers.

I thought after reading the title of the article was going to be about the increased value of Kepler after the Yankees taking three left-handed hitting outfielders off the trade market. Can't image the Twins trading for Grisham is even a consideration for the front office.

The front office/coaches would know better than me, but I would think that Polanco has enough athleticism and ability to play 1B. Why isn't the plan to have Polanco work on 1B in the offseason to help be a solution to that 'offseason need'?

I'd offer it and gladly take him back if he accepts. I understand everyone wants to shoot for better and/or open up a spot for a youngster, but you need pitching depth and I don't know which free agents better than Maeda the Twins can legitimately get to sign here. Probably not getting the top guys, so the Twins are likely looking at guys that will perform similar to how Maeda will in 2024, but they'd need to go multiple years to get the other guys. Take Maeda for 1 year at a bit of an overpay and see how your staff and the free agent landscape looks next offseason. Also, I think if Maeda went to the free agent market saying he's looking to max out his earnings for 1 season only. I think a lot of teams would make 1 year offers approaching $20 million, so is it really that much of an overpay?

Where Do the Twins Fit All of the Youth
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I'm confounded on why Polanco isn't playing 1B. Maybe he will once Lewis is off the IL. The guy was an everyday big league SS, you can't tell me he doesn't have the chops for 1B.- 76 replies

Probably not the thread for this, but kind of on the topic of finding at-bats for guys. What is roster move expected with Polanco's impending activation? I'm crossing my fingers this is finally the Gallo DFA tipping point. Has to be one of Gallo DFA or optioning of Wallner or Castro right?

I hear what you are saying and the question was who's a better DH, so you are right. compared to the Buxton performance so far, you can argue Julien, Wallner, etc. My perspective is from a larger context which maybe I should have clarified. Buxton's DH bat isn't the bat I'd swap out in most cases and I definitely don't see a better option on the current 26-man roster. If Wallner is called up, I'd prefer to bench Gallo in favor of Wallner as I think Buxton still represents the best DH option there. Polanco is the conundrum because he and Julien play the same position, so you can argue Julien or Polanco is a better DH option in that scenario. Right now this isn't the reality of the 26-man though (hopefully soon).

I don't think it is a question of who's the best hitter. Whole lineup construction problem. I agree that Julien is better at the plate than Buxton (right now), but Julien is a regular in the field these days. So Julien to DH and who do you back fill at 2B that is better than Buxton at DH and Julien at 2B?

Easy to get frustrated over these players making nice money to play baseball and not pushing through and performing well while injured. I can't even imagine performing against the best pitchers and other players in the world being physically 100%, yet alone dealing with back and knee injuries. Despite those limitations Buxton is still the best option we have at DH, as pointed out in prior comments. My hope is that the Twins can stay in postseason contention (disappointing if they don't) with him at DH and his health improves or stabilizes enough that he can gut it out in CF for a few games down the stretch and during potential playoff games. Reevaluate the knee and back in the offseason to try and get back to more regular CF work in 2024. I doubt anyone in the organization or Buxton's camp is to the point of saying he's a DH-only for the rest of his career.

Which Twins Left-Handed Outfielder Should Go?
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Kepler has to have some inkling that he's on thin ice right? Or at least unlikely to have his option picked up for next year. You'd think he'd be willing to log some CF time just to try and improve his standing on the roster this year and give teams a CF look to try and increase his opportunities/earning potential if/when he hits the market in the offseason. I'd be curious if any of the 'clubhouse leaders' (whoever they are) have broached the subject with Max. Seems the best we can hope for is one of these guys has an injury that keeps them out to given Wallner and/or Larnach a bit of an extended run to evaluate without having to go full DFA to find the at-bats. -
LaMonte Wade Jr. is Too Interesting To Ignore
AWOLNATION_11 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Strike zone awareness and pitch recognition seem to be his best assets on the offensive side of the ball, with limited power to this point in his career. These are the guys that seem like the best candidates to consider mechanical adjustments to try get more out of their contact. Easier said than done, but at this stage of his career it might be worth a try. -
I don't get the sense that if Donaldson doesn't sign that the front office will be working hard to acquire a different 3B. I think Donaldson's availability as a free agent has the Twins considering moving Sano to 1B to accommodate the acquisition, but beyond Donaldson aren't that involved in the 3B market.

I doubt the front office will want to be too aggressive on a DFA. I wouldn't be surprised if it just turns out to be someone else getting an IL stint, whether it is a significant injury or something less severe that in other circumstances would likely be a day-to-day thing.
