  1. "Headrick continued to strike out more than ten batters per inning" Pretty sure that's impossible.
  2. When Ren walks in the door after work from the episode "Ren the Hermit" reminds me of this conversation about Deslafani.
  3. "Why You Shouldn't Lump Anthony DeSclafani In With Other Injured Twins Pitching Acquisitions" OHHHHH I think we should. They did trade for him afterall. A spade is a spade. I'm tired of the apologists. I was tired of them a long time ago.
  4. LOL. You've officially entered the spin zone. When i read this article and ones similar to it, I get this impression: the trade really wasn't about Anthony Desclafani, but the other players. Uh huh, but he was a part of it wasn't he? "Yeah but the trade really wasn't about Desclafani, but the other guys so he really doesn't count as part of the deal." Rolls eyes, semantics. A spade is a spade. Like it or not the Twins traded for that extra starter Desclafani, end of story.

  6. They might as well just forfeit the season with the way things are going so far if everyone is going to the disabled list this early.
  7. Is it really that or are these guys just getting hurt because they start the season when it's cold out and it's hard to warm up when it's 35-40 degrees gametime? Perhaps the better option would be to just go back to a 154 game season and cut out the late March early April games when it's still cold out?
  8. That's not what I remember. In fact, I remember A TON of people here being extremely upset about the trade thinking he was the next Johan Santana or Francisco Liriano which appeared to be the consensus amongst the majority of fans posting on TD.
  9. Agreed. Twins were HORRIBLE this spring, absolutely horrible. Not at all a good sign heading into the regular season and pitching was the main deficiency, particularly the tail end of the starting rotation and most certainly the bullpen. Are David Festa and SWR ready? They better be. Hopefully Matt Canterino can get healthy because I think they are gonna need him soon as well. I really hope the Twins call up Brooks Lee on this year's squad. He's just that good from what I've seen, service time be damned. On a side note the Tigers looked GOOD.
  10. I would add as a side note: the expectation was that Graterol was a soon to be top of the rotation starter. (Almost everyone on TD was saying that and throwing a fit when he was traded). He hasn't reached those expectations. He throws very very hard but he has almost no movement on his fastball and hasn't (yet) been able to add or work in any more secondary offerings to reduce his reliance on that fastball and therefore he can't be used as a starter nor as a closer which is what the Dodgers were / are hoping for. Not saying he won't, just progress to date. I'm also not saying he's not a good RP, because he is, but he hasn't lived up to expectations. Overall, the Twins did alright in this trade. Now if Graterol had continued to add pitches and improve his repertoire and become a ++ starter this trade would have looked really bad for the Twins.
  11. He has looked good this spring.
  12. if Varland goes 9-7 3.93 era this year that would be a good first full season for him. I think Paddack does better than 6-5 and 96 IP pitched.
  13. I agree. I think he’s done an okay job, for example the Lopez trade. And then not so good such as the Tyler Mahle trade. Do I prefer him over Terry Ryan ABSOLUTELY!
  14. I would still like to see them make another trade with the Marlins for one of their starters (Braxton Garrett, Edward Cabrera, or maybe Jesus Luzardo), but the cost would have been very high assuming they were willing to deal.
  15. I don't want SWR anywhere near the starting rotation of the Twins, not unless he has a breakout year in AAA. He barely averages 90mph and he has not lived up to the hype when he was drafted out of high school. Festa is by far the superior prospect but he only has 12 innings at the AAA level. After that it's Raya and Canterino. Canterino could be on a fast track to the majors if he can stay healthy as he's already 26 years old. When healthy he's been dominant in the minor leagues, but he needs to do it in AAA before long or he's simply gonna age out, which would be a shame given what he's done in the minors.
  16. I doubt SWR will be ok. His minor league numbers are not good. Relying on him as the first backup to the rotation should anyone else go down is a scary prospect if you ask me. Festa has far more potential but he's only got 12 innings at the AAA level. Probably more of a midseason callup if they need him.
  17. I agree. I don't understand the fascination here with SWR. He was not good last year in AAA. If anything I'd say his numbers were mediocre at best. I'd rather get a couple of starts from Festa who I think has wayyyy more upside than SWR, but even his AAA experience is very limited. More of a mid season callup if the Twins are desperate for starting pitching depth. Raya is a ways off still.
  18. They have options. I just want to roll with Varland, Ober, Ryan, Paddack, Lopez. Undoubtedly, they will need a backup to fill in with inevitable injuries, but we'll see. Festa is a lot closer than Raya. I still don't understand the fascination with SWR. I never agreed with Aaron Gleeman's assessment of him after the Berrios trade. The guy's minor league numbers are mediocre above AA and there's little evidence to date that he will be anything more than a AAAA starter, but hey I could be wrong (I hope I'm wrong).
  19. Just go with Varland from the start. He got his feet wet in 2023. I'd rather see him take his lumps with the major league club than sign more filler starters that won't be with the club beyond this season. If Desclafani is down most of the season, they might as well go with the long term plan, which i assumed was Varland.
  20. It's nice to see Correa hitting well in spring training. Hope this translates over into the regular season.
  21. He's not an elite reliever though, let's keep this real. And yes he's a one trick pony (he throws hard) and that's about it. His strikeout rate is NOT good for a RP.
  22. He hasn't and that's the point. Graterol has difficulty striking guys out, Duran not so much. Graterol and Duran are not equivalent pitchers.
  23. Wouldn't surprise me one bit. Also wouldn't be surprised if he never starts a game for the Twins in the regular season. I'd rather see Varland anyways.
  24. Imagine turning down 5-6 years of pitching for 150 million?
