  1. Team wins do, pitching wins don't.
  2. You spelled "meaningless" wrong.
  3. Bring up Arcia! Send down Santana! Escobar and Nunez are enough for short stops. Rosario can play 2B in a pinch and Sano can play 3B whenever if needed.
  4. Yup, dude seems (understandably) worn down. Catching is hard.
  5. Pretty sure if Polanco were not making so many errors he'd be up with the team (in place of Santana) right now. But yeah, in the meantime, I'm all for giving Escobar more starts at SS and leaving Santana as a super-utility player, or sending him down.
  6. To be fair to Seth and others that had seen him play and always raved about his speed and athleticism, and notwithstanding getting caught stealing today, he really is fast and athletic for his size. Amazingly so. I could believe that he could play outfield defense in a pinch, and probably just as well as Arcia.
  7. Ok, all things considered, this isn't too bad:
  8. I had the same reaction. Although keep in mind that the last few weeks at Chattanooga, as the rust came off, barely anyone was.
  9. I'm sure others have addressed/complained about this before, but it would be great if when a post gets bumped from the "recent blogs" section to the front page, the comments come with it. It is just really annoying to have your contribution to the discussion seemingly arbitrarily left behind. I'm not sure what the technical and/or logistical obstacles to that would be, but I would think everyone would agree that it is preferable. Thanks, and nice article Brandon.
  10. Kepler is also 22, while Hicks was in the minors into his age 25 season in order to put up those numbers. Kepler has also been repeatedly injured and also started playing baseball against serious competition when he was 16. Kepler is far from a sure thing, for sure, and two or three years ago, I would have taken Hicks over Kepler without hestitation, but things change, and recent performance carries more weight, suggesting a plus defense platoon outfielder against lefties (Hicks) and a average regular corner outfielder (Kepler) with a small but not tiny chance for more.
  11. Just so we're clear, this is the same Hicks who is hitting .230/.266/.284 (.550) against right-handed pitching this year and hit .178/.300/.212 (.512) last year? Hicks is a better defender than Kepler, for sure, and much better than Arcia, but there is little to no chance that defensive value is going to make up for his above numbers against righties when compared to Kepler or Arcia. I'm all for playing Hicks against lefties, and putting him in the outfield during the late innings with a Twins lead, but that's it, unless he completely turns his hitting against righties around.
  12. Ok, well I'll let you duke it out with sane, who takes the opposite view (I'm somewhere in the middle). I'd be fine with Arcia in the outfield with Rosario (and Buxton of course) against righties, at least until Kepler or Walker is ready. Hicks should be playing in the outfield instead of Arcia against lefties though, and in 8th or 9th inning games with a couple of run Twins lead. As soon as Walker or (more likely) Kepler is ready though, I'd move Arcia to DH. Obviously we can't count on Walker or Kepler to arrive and produce, but neither can we count on Arcia to arrive and produce. He might hack again, or he might continue to be injured. I'm more bullish on Kepler. He doesn't have the high-upside power bat that Walker does, but I think there is a good chance he'll hit for decent average and walks and play solid defense, possibly even right away next year.
  13. Not against righties. That being said, I'm all for moving Arcia to mostly DH (or trading him if the price is right) and leaving the corner outfield for Hicks and Rosario/Kepler/Walker.
  14. Man I hope so. I'd definitely take that.
  15. True, but no way he is going to outplay any of Arcia, Rosario, or Kepler against RHP.
  16. Because why have two good third baseman (and both righties) on a team when you can trade one of them for something of equal value? Sure, until Sano his proved himself for more than 5 games, and until some of the other big bats from the minors are ready (Buxton, Polanco, Kepler, Walker), let's wait to trade Plouffe. But at some point . . .
  17. 1 Buxton CF 2 Dozier 2B 3 Mauer 1B 4 Sano 3B 5 Arcia/Bench DH 6. Kepler LF 7 Rosario/Hicks RF 8 Suzuki C (uggh, unless we trade Plouffe for a catcher) 9 Polanco SS Bench Escobar, Santana, Turner Get rid of Hunter and Plouffe. Sub in one of the bench bats or Rosario for Arcia against lefties on some or all days. Walker will be up in a year or two to be the DH against lefties, but realistically probably not early next year.
  18. Last 20 games, Mauer: .333/.405 /.507 (.912). NICCCCCE! Even last 30 games, Mauer: .298/.383/.452 (.835). Would still be plenty happy with that kind of production from here on out.
  19. Completely agree. Give him a chance in the bullpen, mainly against lefties. But unlike O'Rourke (who I have no problem using as a strict LOOGY), Rogers would be fine to leave in for an inning or two with a righty or two as well.
  20. I wouldn't make any moves other than maybe a tier two (11-20 range) prospect for a solid lefty reliever (although I think it is worth giving Taylor Rogers a shot first). If we could get a good deal for a solid youngish catcher with some team control left I would trade a higher level prospect or prospects, but I doubt that will be available. I would consider trading Plouffe for a quality catcher/almost ready high-upside catching prospect, moving Sano to 3B, and moving a platoon of Arcia/Hunter to DH, but that won't happen, possibly ever, and definitely not before this offseason.
  21. Indeed, although both those HRs came against lefties. He has a .783 OPS against lefties and a .550 OPS against righties. If all else fails, he has a future as a platoon outfielder. No question. I'd love to see the Twins keep him in that role, which when combined with his plus defense would make him a valuable player. But I'm not sure if Molitor is anything more than a dabbler when it comes to platooning.
  22. 1. Escobar. Agree with you. 2. Buxton/Hicks. Agree with you. Maybe an occasional Arcia start (in place of Hunter) against righties when he's not on the bench or DH'ing. 3. Pelfrey to the pen, May back to the rotation, with Nolasco somewhere else. 4. Perkins, Pelfrey, Fein, Boyer, Graham . . . yeah, I'd agree and give Achter and Rogers a shot.
