Article: Who's on First? Cron's No Sure Thing
ChrisKnutson replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’d DFA Duffey, Torreyes, and Granite (Littell Austin, and Reed are options too). Also, the fact that Solarte, Dietrich, and Parra all signed minor league deals means that there’s a possibility (maybe even likelihood) that all of those relievers might eventually be forced to sign one as well, unless we swoop in and offer multiple extremely cheap 1 year ML deals ($2-3M). I mean, a closer committee of May, Madson, and Norris could be just as effective as Kimbrel (not better tho).- 22 replies

Article: Who's on First? Cron's No Sure Thing
ChrisKnutson replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m comfortable with our 1B options, for now... Although, signing Josh Harrison to play 3B as well as move Sano to 1B wouldn’t be such a bad thing. However, I’m still concerned about the bullpen. Why sign Kimbrel to a high AAV deal when we could possibly have all of Norris, Madson, and Warren for less than one year of him.- 22 replies

Article: What Can Duda Do for You?
ChrisKnutson replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Duda’s alright, but Wieters, Iglesias, Buchholz, Harrison, Phillips, Bautista, Ramirez, Casilla, Morrison, Span, and or Ramos could all still be possibly had on a minor league deal. Who’s next?? -
I don’t care where he starts the season, Romero is a starter. Period. Honestly, we should’ve never signed Pineda (Perez too)... If it weren’t for that move, maybe we could’ve had both Keuchel and Romero in our rotation this season.

Still, if we’re willing to go that high for Kimbrel (in terms of AAV), why no consideration for Keuchel?? All it would be is 2 extra years, and it’s not like it’d be as big of a gamble as people are making it out to be since he doesn’t rely on velocity for effectiveness. Sure, we might have to “overpay” in terms of the years given, but given our need for a SP beyond 2019, besides, Berrios, it’d be well worth it.

Article: Who's the Fourth Outfielder?
ChrisKnutson replied to TwinsTakes-RD's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If he performs well in ST I really think the FO should consider Wade for the 4th OF role even more so than Cave because of his ability to get on-base at a high rate (12.9% in a down year); something our projected lineup really lacks. Besides that, Wade doesn’t even really have any outstanding flaw either, except for maybe his lack of power, although he does seem capable of hitting around 10-15 HR if given enough AB’s. -

For only having 2 pitches, along with being a rookie, Romero actually fared pretty well in his first year as a big leaguer (especially if you compare it to Berrios’), so why not at least see what he can do before coming to a decision? If anything, I’d rather see him start the year in AAA to work on his change-up because I truly believe that if he develops that into a legitimate pitch the Twins will have another Berrios on their hands. I also think it’s good to remember that Romero lost nearly 2 years of development due to TJ surgery. Meaning, for the sake of development and complete injury recovery/separation, he may need a little more time.

Article: Twins Daily 2019 Top Prospects: 16-20
ChrisKnutson replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’m curious to see if FO decides to move Alcala to the bullpen, he has the potential of a frontline-ish starter, but he easily could fit in the Twins bullpen right now as a multi inning weapon like Josh Hader or Seranthony Dominguez. Probably better off remaining patient for now, but if the need arises it’s something to seriously consider (even more so than Romero). As for Wade, I thoroughly believe that he should break camp as the Twins 4th outfielder, but with Cave’s presence I really don’t see that happening. Meaning, I expect him to make his debut sometime before the all-star break. Hopefully, by that time there’s enough room on the roster for him to stay because I know for sure that his all-around abilities (especially on-base) could definitely help our team down the stretch of a likely back and forth battle between us and Cleveland for the central division.- 47 replies

Article: Extension Time?
ChrisKnutson replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If we decide to extend Kepler we should model his deal after the D-back’s extension of Ketel Marte in 2018.- 62 replies

I know he’s just a reliever, but man did Jovani Moran have a hell of a season. Definitely worthy of an honorable mention, maybe even a September call up if he’s continues from where he left off.

I know Buxton has struggled, but I don’t like the idea of him batting 9th, if anything, that should be Castro. And when it comes to Kepler, he and his 11.6% walk rate should be hitting lead off.

Article: Extension Time?
ChrisKnutson replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Berrios for sure, maybe Rosario as well, but don’t count out a Kepler extension because a cheap deal now, could be huge bargain for us later. Regardless of his potential, perhaps he and his agents will decide that Kepler betting on himself may not be the safest business move. Think about it, Kepler is at a crossroads right now, why not secure your future now.- 62 replies

Realmuto may be better than AK, but are we really in a good position to make that kind of move right now?? Not really... Especially since he’d be this team’s only “superstar,” while most postseason teams tend to have at least 2-3. Doesn’t mean this is a bad team, but there’s no doubt that a lot would need to go our way in order for us to beat Cleveland, even with Realmuto. Simply put, there’s too many question marks on this team for us to make stupid trades like that, we just don’t have that luxury at the moment. Besides, even if we we’re able to outbid the Dodger, Padres, Reds, Braves, Rays, etc, by the time we actually start seriously contending for a WS, Realmuto will already be gone.

Article: Don’t Sleep on Jorge Polanco
ChrisKnutson replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why are so many people projecting Polanco as a 3B when his arm can barely handle SS?? Whether he remains with the Twins or not, Polanco’s future is at 2B. -
I know Pineda is supposed to be good this year, but I can’t help but feel that signing both him and Perez is really going to come back to bite us in 2020 when Stewart, Romero, Gonsalves, Thorpe, and Mejia all struggle due to lack of experience because they weren’t given a fair shot the year before. Hopefully Perez can be what Miley was for Brewers last year, because then we’d have two “veteran” starters (Perez and Berrios) under contract beyond this year.

Article: Prospect Spotlight Series: Bullpen Help
ChrisKnutson replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Stashak and Alcala are the two that excite me the most, but don’t sleep on Jovani Moran’s dominant 2018. Honestly, I think Moran has the potential to reach the show faster than Vasquez did. -
All of them (Brach, Wilson, Holland, Norris, etc) should be within reach, but realistically (from ownership’s perspective) the Twins are likely limited to only cheap mediocre middle relievers like Kelley, Warren, or Romo, not very inspiring...

Article: Sizing Up Cody Allen
ChrisKnutson replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If we we’re unwilling to pay up for Allen, I really doubt we’re gonna sign any of Brach, Wilson, or Norris. Honestly, I have doubts that we’ll even take a chance on Ryan Madson or Greg Holland because they might “cost too much” on a 1 year deal. As you can tell, my confidence in the FO is on the verge of being shattered. Why sign Cruz? Why sign Schoop? If you weren’t going to go out and get an established closer; something this club really needed. And it’s not like our young pitchers (besides Romero, Stewart, and Moya) are that good, if at all. Hopefully a couple of our minor leaguers like Alcala, Thorpe, and or Stashak can step up, or else we might already be out of contention by the All-Star break. -
