  1. Before I realized it was 3rd base related I thought he was talking about Paul Sorrento.
  2. I have changed my tune on Sano. His defense has greatly improved at 3rd and not sure if the switch to 1st base would mess with his hitting.
  3. Nope. It almost comes to a point that he is just minor league filler.
  4. What are the odds that Joe Mauer will look to continue his career after his contract finally expires after 2018? The reason I ask because the other night they showed that Kirby Puckett is the all time Twins hit leader with 2304 & currently Mauer is 383 behind. With Mauer never having a 200 hit season ever he would almost have to play through 2020 to pass Puckett. I can't see the new FO wanting to even think about keeping him around even at a huge discount after 2018.
  5. What? Why would the Twins give up BIG SEXY'S spot in the rotation? If not for Colon where would the Twins be. The added bonus hopefully Colon & Santana can help the younger guys progress further.
  6. A demotion to the minors is an easy way to light a fire under a slumping player. If he doesn't bounce back you at least gave him time to work out the kinks.
  7. At last the purge has begun!
  8. The Twins had a very unreal first half of the season. It was nice seeing the Twins in first place but everyone knew it was not gonna last. The Twins rotation was still 2 arms short all year with what they got from Gibson/Hughes/Santiago. No reason not to trade away Kintzler who was going to be a free agent at the end of the season. If they want him back they can sign him this winter. The Garcia trade to NYY seems like a good return besides sending the money in the deal. As I say that it's really not that big of deal since they have held payroll back pretty much since 2012 or so. Twins have been raking in money ever since Target Field opened and their claim they were going to put it towards payroll last 2 seasons or so. Now in the last couple of years attendance is down since they are pocketing more money and ignoring the product they put on the field. Just hope we don't have to wait for Mauer to get off the books to spend some money to compete. Won't be long before Sano needs to be signed to an extension as wel.
  9. What's the point of a fire sale if all you get back are a bunch of minor leaguers? All that will do is give you more players that will be needed to be protected unless they are really young and if that is the case they won't be ready anytime soon so that won't help a quick rebuild.
  10. I think this is the case for every team in the league. People rate their minor league talent way higher than what they are. Take the Twins since they are our team. Of all the players that need to be protected, how many would actually be able to stay on an active roster all season? I guess the gray area would be if a team goes crazy like San Diego and has 3 rule 5 players on their team again.
  11. I never knew that DuluthFan. SO it makes sense to leave the players off. Time for the FO to comb the DFA list. Maybe the Twins can put in claims for players that have another year at least on their contracts and see if they can work out a deal to help the clucb in 2018.
  12. With the Twins trading Brandon Kintzler to Washington and only receiving Tyler Watson. Watson is only 20 years old and doesn't need to be placed on the 40 man roster. Anthony Recker is still listed on the 40 man, even though they outrighted him off the 40 man when they got him in the Garcia trade. So do the Twins just leave it be or will they be promoting some players to the majors that aren't on the 40 man roster?
  13. Nick Gordon should vastly improve the Twins shortstop position next year if not this year. The Twins are stuck with Joe Mauer for 1 more season. I would say an upgrade to left field if the Twins can find a taker at the deadline for Eddie Rosario is the only position that needs to be upgraded. 1st base is where they really need an upgrade but will have to wait.
  14. It's a light hitting outfield with Rosario as well. Maybe they could turn back the clock and become the piranhas again, minus Nick Punto. Also, what happened to the organizational depth in the outfield? No help at all in AAA and just LaMonte Wade in AA.
  15. Flip Garcia ASAP! Don't wait for the deadline. If you wait until the deadline other SP could be dealt that are better than Garcia. If the Twins wait for the deadline they will be making a mistake. Also, get rid of Eddie Rosario while he is hitting well. He does have a good arm but doesn't hit the cutoff man when he should. Has still not figured out how to draw a walk (18 this year). If Buxton comes back healthy & can hit I would rather see a Buxton, Kepler, & Granite outfield. This could also be a way to bring up Mitch Garver to be a sort of super utility playing many positions.
  16. Anthony Recker got outrighted off the 40 man roster earlier today. Not sure why they have not removed him yet.
  17. Just looked at the Twins 40 man roster and noticed they have 2 open spots at the moment. I heard Glen Perkins has made a couple of minor league appearances and thought 1 might be for him in the possible near future. My question is who is the other spot for? I highly doubt it would filled from a trade. I say that because the Twins should be selling. Maybe someone get added to the 40 man and gets called up to help the pitching staff.
  18. Not sure why people are so insanely high on Mitch Garver. Many hitters can rake in the minors but have a very hard time making the jump to the majors. He could turn out to be great or he could be just the same as Buxton when he came up.
  19. It would be foolish to trade Ervin Santana who is under contract for 2018 with an team option for 2019. $13.5M in 2018 & $14M in 2019 if they want to pick it up. Sure he has hit a rough patch now, but for that type of money what would you get this winter in FA market? Most likey a #3 or #4 starter practically.
  20. This is a great move! This will serve as a wake up call to Gibson. With all his struggles this season it's always good for a pitcher to know he needs to perform at a high level or he will not be in the majors. Yes, I do agree the Colon circus can end anytime as well. Maybe the Twins can attach one of their catchers with him and I would expect the Mets would give the Twins something in return.
  21. 6. Garcia is a free agent at the end of the season...
  22. I hope the open spot is not for Jaimie Garcia.
  23. Am I the only one here waiting for a mystery team to come in "steal away" Jaimie Garcia from the Twins? I feel we can do better than him. He still has an ERA over 5 in the last 30 days. Don't be fooled by a couple starts. He is nothing special that will push the Twins to the top of the AL Central.
  24. Thank you Braves GM for not accepting Nick Burdi as part of the trade. I would rather wait for Burdi to recover from Tommy John than have Jaimie Garcia for what 12 starts or less? Talk to the Padres for one of their starters and keep Burdi out of any talks. We need to keep our power arms. Especially for a rental player.
  25. This is the Twins are about to trade Dozier to the Dodgers summer addition for your amusement...
