  1. I would be a little afraid signing any of the 3 top pitchers. Nobody has any clue what they have done since pitchers & catchers reported. They may be behind and not ready to start or worse yet be likely to over due it and cause an injury. Just remember how good it worked out when the Twins signed Kendrys Morales. No spring training and never found his old form.
  2. Just remember what happened when the Twins signed Mauer to an extension before he was eligible to become a free agent. If he has a good year, offer him the QO first & then talk about a possible 3-4 year contract. Or fall back on your in-house options that may make sense in the long term.
  3. Then once he realizes how messed up the market is here he will be open to playing overseas to make some cash. Also, it is the best way to build some value since I can't see him getting regular AB's on any team.
  4. I'm sure many teams would be in for the right price...
  5. Vargas to Korea or Japan. The Twins will sit him down and ask him if he would be open to going overseas to get some actual playing time. This way he could make a return to MLB with some confidence since he could get normal AB's in either Korea or Japan. Not sure which season would start sooner to be a quicker/better fit for him.
  6. Give me one of the following Logan Morrison, Mark Reynolds or Corey Dickerson. Or if you want to gamble sign Jose Bautista. I have always liked Vargas. It just seems like he has never got a fair chance to evolve into the great hitter he could become. His best bet might be going to Korea or Japan and make some big money while he can.
  7. Charlie Morton might be a better target. Thin he may only be signed for 1 more year.
  8. I wonder if Boston is regretting the David Price contract? 7 years $217M ouch. There should never be a team giving any pitcher over 30 a deal longer than 5 years tops. Sad part teams will over pay and get burned in the last 2 years if not more.
  9. You can't overpay for someone who doesn't want to come here. Up to $150M. Not sure the terms since they are not public yet.
  10. Why hasn't anyone brought up making a trade with Houston for a starting pitcher? Once they traded for Gerrit Cole they have 7 starting pitchers on their team. I would expect Charlie Morton & Collin McHugh would be available. Neither top tier but would not cost much in terms of prospects. As well Houston would be open to a trade to replenish prospects after making the Cole & Verlander trades.
  11. If they want to cut down time of games start with the time between innings. But that would cost them advertising money so they would not want to do that. On the same note, when they make a pitching change they need to speed that time up so no need for another commercial break.
  12. I want no part of Darvish. He will be 32 in August & sounds like the contract is going to $150M at least. It doesn't seem wise to go 5-6 years for a pitcher his age.
  13. The best part of signing Reed is that if the Twins fall out of playoff contention they have a valuable asset that they can flip for some nice prospects.
  14. I would figure Buddy Boshers will be the first removed from the 40 man roster. After that you can go to Gabriel Moya, Aaron Slegers, & Tyler Kinley. To be honest could just as well make Tyler Kinley the first sacrificial lamb cut from the roster. Why waste a roster spot on a rule 5 pitcher.
  15. I meant to say the Twins need more than a starting pitcher to push them over the top. The bullpen still needs some of the younger arms to continue to make strides up. I would like to see an improved bench as well. Then you still have the DH issue to deal with. Do they actually give Kennys Vargas the job since I believe he is out of options? Or does he split with Robbie Grossman?
  16. No way I would ever go over $22M a year for Darvish unless it was for 4 years or less. Like I said before, they need more than 1 starting pitcher to push them over the top.
  17. I run from any deal for 6 years for a pitcher. The Twins need more than 1 starting pitcher to go to the World Series. To be honest, just wait 1 more year & Cleveland will be completely shelled by free agency so be happy settling for the wild card in 2018. Joe Mauer's contract will be off the books as well so 2019 will be great.
  18. I don't want anything to do with any of these "top free agent pitchers." Do you really want to sign Yu Darvish to a 6-7 year deal? Then you have Alex Cobb asking for $20M a year? The worst part of the slow winter deals is Scott Boras is pulling all the strings and will get the lower end guys signed first before the big players sign unless the money is completely insane.
  19. No need to talk extension for Dozier. If he wants to stay here it shouldn't matter if he signs an extension now or does after the season. Joe Mauer's extension killed this organization in my mind. He had no desire to leave the comfort of Minnesota. Especially the fact of no pressure from the media like he would have got from New York or Boston. So don't make the same mistake with Dozier. The Twins have options at 2nd base so please wait until after the season for a new contract.
  20. Sure. I highly doubt they had no knowledge before it went public.
  21. Yes, and I thought it was not sexual assault. It's like when San Diego was trading hurt players & MLB came back and punished them. How could you expect other GM's to want to make deals with any teams that are looking shady. I am sure most GM's have done things shady but when you get caught it is a big deal.
  22. One other point, pretty shady that the Twins were reportedly offering up Sano in trade talks. If that is the case I have more of a problem with our front office than with Sano.
  23. So the real question is did she recently get let go by the Twins? It just seems shady when stories pop up after things that happened over 2 years ago. I am not saying that nothing happened, it looks bad when people don't come forward right away. For all we know she could have gone to the Twins or Sano asking for hush money to make it go away. If that was the case wouldn't it be called extortion? Not being a woman I cannot know how one would think. If anyone did something wrong to me I would report it ASAP and would not care if it caused me to be fired.
