  1. By this logic, every non-pitcher is ancillary. Because no hitter can effect what other hitters do, and can only barely effect what pitchers do (on defense). I think there is a zero percent chance we will agree on this.
  2. Hmmm....best bday stories..... Well, at 21 (even though the drinking age was 18....), my fraternity brothers fed me full up with Jagermeister, and then I did embarrassing things I don't need to type out here, including uttering "she wants me" about a waitress after she and others saw me puke. Proud moment.....I haven't even tried to drink that in the last 31 years... At 40, my wife thru a very nice surprise party for me. More and more people just kept showing up, and I got to show off my new grill, and my old grill. I had one going for people that don't eat pork....and one for the majority of people. for my 50th, we were in the Caribbean, on St. .John UVI, which was awesome. We did a lot of fun things on that trip.
  3. How so? There are 9-13 other players playing every game....even if Dozier put up 12 WAR*, if the SP gives up 6 runs a game, and the other players are all bad......how could Dozier change this team's success one way or the other over 162 games? *choose your stats, you know what I mean.
  4. Great.....that isn't really the point, and no one on this thread argued about WAR being perfect, no one.
  5. I'm curious.....you think Trout is not valuable, and Dozier is not valuable, because the teams are bad?
  6. Well, that's a plus (the creator part) for sure.
  7. "how can he be a HoF player, he was only MVP once!"
  8. For me, it is pretty simple.....if you could add one player, for one year, based on last year's stats......and were starting from scratch....who would you pay the most money for? He's the most valuable. Because, you know, we measure value in money.....which player's one year performance would you pay the most money for if budget is no constraint (that is, not $/WAR or whatever)? That's pretty much Trout every year for 5 years, imo.
  9. Happy birthday. Make it a great year!
  10. And, imo, once again, they will steal it from Trout. We don't agree on the definition of most valuable...
  11. Trout ... .... .... .... Donaldson Betts Machado Altuve Dozier is in clearly in the top 7-10.....but he's not in the top 5, imo. Great season! wow.
  12. Man, the good place looks like the worst tv show ever.....
  13. why would anyone watch the OJ stuff? I suppose people will watch the Joan Benoit stuff too.....I don't get it. edit:99% sure I got that last name wrong, because I just don't care about stuff like that.....
  14. I bought DRGO, Microsoft, and GM....for dividend purposes. My adviser and I are discussing a long term play in a real estate effort....and my wife just met a guy that helps people buy RE in Portland.....what I'd like to do is set up an investment pool with about 10 others that buys 3-5 rental units out here....112 people move to Portland every day. RE is going up 15% a year. Even in a recession, I like buying some RE for passive income.
  15. Well, not all of those were planned.....so I'm not sure you can say they were following that strategy. I liked the OP, thanks!
  16. Hahahaha, ya, that was never my look. And, I could never grow that 'stache. That is a serious 80s shirt (I think).
  17. Sure, but it is also Albers, Dean, and about 10 others that are AAA/AAAA pitchers. This isn't just a defense issue.
  18. Cross posting from the thread on other sites....at least he admits he's guessing.... JTT 9:21 Why does nobody seem to want the twins job? The team is basically begging for people to interview and guys are turning them down. I realize the team sucks and ownership is less than ideal but the Angels/mariners jobs were considered difficult and they got their guys pretty easily. Hell even the Marlins went relatively smooth Jeff Sullivan 9:23 I'm going to guess this is more a case of just a few people saying no, and generating headlines. The Twins are going to fill their jobs and they will presumably fill them with quality candidates. It's mostly a desirable spot to work -- low expectations, great ballpark, loyal fan base. There are some issues people will have about working with ownership, and that might make it a little similar to when the Orioles had trouble finding a GM, but I can't imagine ownership is *that* off-putting 9:24 If you're a potential GM, you come in and figure you'll inherit an improving Sano, Buxton, and Berrios. There are worse places to start
  19. Great read......if you are interested in the hitter side....read the Fangraphs article by Eno Sarris on what hitters can see. What a great read.
  20. Ha, different kind of hard for sure, but yes, hard, very hard.
  21. It is hard to see both Park and Vargas on this team together...
  22. I agree with the premise of the OP. I DH almost everything in my life.
  23. I had to switch, though. She just couldn't picture a new hair style for me, and I needed a change. i've been to two different places so far in Oregon (sigh, I had found the right one in MN....), not sure how I feel about either so far.
