  1. 3 WAR player, who plays elite defense, and could possibly hit and steal bases....who is 22 or so, what would that fetch on the open market? 5-7 years....150MM I'd guess. And, he'd want that shorter length so he could be a FA again.....
  2. No chance, zero, Sano or Buxton do that. If Buxton can hit at all, he's an All Star type player. No way he settles for that money. And I'm not sure Sano even needs to be more than a DH to make about 2-3x that much money either, not if he maintains a high OBP to go with the HRs. Double those numbers, and you might get a conversation going.
  3. Teams don't front load contracts, unless you mean bonuses. I don't know how you extend Polanco right now, he doesn't even have a position. I can't see, given the years they had, the other three would accept whatever was offered, frankly. I do think they should try to figure out how to make it happen, but I don't think it does this season, unless something happens in the first half to make both sides more sure who the player is...
  4. I don't need space or good schools anymore, but we moved out here partly to live a more urban, walkable, life. We found a 'hood we love, but I think renting in year 1 is most likely. Plus cash is at a premium while we get the business up and running.....
  5. Houses that would be in neighborhoods I want, and don't require a complete tear down to the studs: 600K or more.....
  6. Trying to convince my wife that we should reconsider not buying a house ever again (even though that was/is my idea). Prices continue to skyrocket here, and interest rates are going to go up for sure..... OTOH, I really don't want to own a house....and holy cow it's expensive here.
  7. Well, next year they'll have only 2 trade assets, again.....so, good luck on that front. If the FA market is better...will they outbid teams for Ace types? I have my doubts. Full on, very slow, thru the draft, rebuild....since we passed on going over on international (check out the top 100s, and how many are international signings, none of which are Twins in the last 5 years, IIRC).
  8. Nice humble brag, btw. edit: ninja'd
  9. My wife and I are doing the home show in a few weeks. We are going with 5+5 as a promotion: 5% off, and 5% to charity. I think. We were drinking while discussing that..... edit: I always wonder, if I do change my mind, and run for office, will this kind of joke hurt me from getting that 3rd vote (besides me and my wife)?
  10. long term? shopify. How many times do I need to type that. Or nvidia (only made 240% on it last year.....). Or MSFT. Or AMZN. But, the next three years could be bumpy for any tech stock. You'll need a strong stomach. If the 20% tax on mexico is real, I need to see how much GM uses Mexican plants!
  11. given the double posts, it looks like you already started! Nope, if I was buying a liquor store, it wouldn't be in Oregon. Prices are regulated, and other stuff. They are open on sunday though, so that's nice....
  12. i'm just responding to the above.....that they have plenty of prospects in AA/AAA, and only really need an ace.....and, I clearly said FA, didn't I?
  13. I also wonder, if the SP can be fixed with the current system and 1 FA, and the offense is "set", why was Ryan fired?
  14. Dan San is on our's*....doesn't mean anything until April. *I think he's on the Twins', no idea, frankly.
  15. IMO, not inspiring.....unless they commit to these guys being as RPs....
  16. Of course 2017 matters, that's not how I read your post at all. And, I truly believe the Rays might keep JDL down longer than expected, to slow his service clock. They aren't winning much this year.....
  17. Beer and wine, but that's about the same * *not really, we bought a business last year, paying off some debt
  18. couldn't disagree more. De Leon is about 2018 and beyond, not 2017. the Rays might hold him back, to, you know, not start his clock this year, for example....or to slow his clock. Judging a trade about a SP prospect in year 1 seems all kind of wrong. All kind of wrong. And, frankly, what dozier does this year, unless he hits like Bonds and draws hundreds of thousands of fans, is probably meaningless in the context of the Twins being good in 2018 and beyond....
  19. I don't agree I'm losing in the long run. You have no idea what I did with that cash. Seriously.
  20. I still think 90 or so is about right, maybe 87. In that range. But, you can see how they lose 100 again, I just don't feel that is likely.
  21. Thank you. I've been trying to figure out an analogy that helps with understanding the context of the decision is as, or more, important, than the actual value discussion. I also like, for those that think anyone offered in a trade must not actually be a good prospect: When you go into the grocery store, do you assume all the produce is rotten, because they are willing to sell it, rather than eat it? Though, I don't think it works as well....the point being, players are assets, and you need to best use those assets. Some days, keeping them is the best use. Some days, trading them is the best use, even if the trade is not totally fair....
  22. That last line isn't true. I needed cash this month. I had stock that I felt was going to go up. I still sold it, because I needed cash. Decisions about assets are made in context, not in a vacuum. Arguing that Dozier should not be sold for 80 cents on the dollar, w/o taking into account the context of the entire system and Dozier's contract is, imo, a mistake. (and, I am not arguing you are stating otherwise, btw). It's like an NFL team that has three starting caliber QBs, but the worst OL in football. Keeping the three QBs because the offers aren't "fair" isn't going to lead to many wins, because sports are team events.
  23. thank you for answering. I have my doubts about 2018, but I am not w/o hope. So many of their hitters can't actually hit, that scares me. Can they get better? Sure. Will they? I hope so. As for the pitching and the manager, sigh.
