  1. How can that be? We have been TERRIBLE for 5 of the last 6 years...the farm should be STACKED by now.....(btw, Sano, Polanco, and Kepler were all in the farm before that....).
  2. I don't agree the Sox are more than a year or two away.... Quintana has 5 years of team control left, IIRC. He's still a long term asset (if he stays good), not some short term player. They seem to have some kind of magic with SPs, and if they can just get rid of the black holes in the field, they should be good. Their stars and scrubs strategy didn't work. I do agree they should have traded their closer for a legit hitter.... The rest? Seems about right, other than if you keep Dozier, you don't exactly speed up the incredibly slow rebuild (we are on 6 years of being bad now, other than 15...).
  3. I think my wife's winning percentage vs me in Cribbage is around 95%. Doesn't matter what happens, she counts it out first by a point or two, no matter what I do.
  4. 7 Wonders (my favorite, because I never use the same strategy) Dungeons and Dragons (need a new group now that I've moved) Settlers of Catan Carcassonne (mostly vs the AI, great app) Jaipur (great 2 person game) Ticket to Ride (only vs the AI, great app) Splendor (only vs the AI, another great app) Keith Law has a great, great, list of his top 100 games (he reviews them for Paste). He also has a list of this top 2 person games, and a link to apps.....
  5. Why are the Twins' behind the Cubs and Astros? Part of the reason is that those teams traded their veterans for prospects. The Twins traded Span and Revere, and got nothing for Span (ugh, jeebus) and a big fat question mark for Revere. Not trading Dozier is going to slow down the rebuild, AWFUL teams that have lost 90+ games 5 of the last 6 years need to trade older veterans for prospects. That's how rebuilds speed up. At this point, the White Sox look like they may have passed the twins in the rebuild....
  6. They are doing all that, it clearly isn't working. What's your next plan? I agree, punishing others doesn't deter people. I would hope that isn't the point here, I would hope they are, you know, punishing people because they did something wrong....
  7. That is such a pedantic argument.....so, fire them is ok, just don't call them names? The effect is still the same. You seem ok with them expelling the students, you just want them labeled differently? Is that where we are?
  8. By this logic, civil law suits over criminal acts are wrong also?
  9. So, Levi, you argue against action over and over on threads like this. What is your answer to forty percent of our sisters being raped? Because your answer in every thread like this is do nothing.
  10. Of course, w/o Dozier playing today, they also have no hits....
  11. You hippies and your rock and roll lyrics....
  12. Back to the team....I thought we were promised no more issues with this coaching staff.... So, they aren't good, and they have player issues....hmmm....
  13. I tried to say that, but you said it better.....
  14. Good points. I imagine I will be frustrated if we basically lost a year last year, and we have to wait another 12 months beyond the expected time to see these guys (not to mention, hundreds more pitches on their arms wasted in the minors). Will make me sad if true. Also, a MAJOR indictment of the previous regime, imo.....
  15. We live close to a Max station, but man, that would take A LONG time to get to SE.....I was supposed to have a new AWD SUV this week, but for some reason I don't. We plan to snow shoe and hike in the mountains (and ski), so AWD seems like it might be a good idea.....but again, the bigger issue, imo, is that people have rear wheel drive, older tires, bad cars for winter, and don't know how to drive (and the hills and ice).
  16. Stanford just cut the band, for exactly these disciplinary reasons. They still teach music, though.....because it is an education system.
  17. On a humorous note.... We got an email from the apartment management, reminding us to keep the heat on, and to let the faucets drip so pipes didn't freeze, because, um, uh, the temps would be in teh 20s. Above zero. Wut? Is there no insulation in these units? Do pipes magically freeze 30-40 degrees warmer in OR than in MN?
  18. So last year's AAA dominance didn't mean anything, but a couple spring training starts will? I don't agree with that as how to make decisions. Last year's minor league dominance meant nothing, but this year it would? Frank Viola was awful at first. He learned by actually being in the majors and facing MLB hitters.
  19. When will they show us something, if they are in AAA? What would you need to see from Berrios in AAA at this point, to let him pitch in the majors?
  20. Which of these high valued prospects were ushered in in the last five years, exactly? On this roster? Buxton and May? Chargois? I'm confused by that statement. Greatly. As for DanSAn, I don't get it. He doesn't steal well, he is really quite bad in teh field, and he can't hit. Other than that, um, I don't get it.
  21. Berrios in AAA? Ugh. No thanks. Get the young guys up here and learning in the majors. If Neil Allen isn't the best pitching coach, um, uh, wut? So, last year's team, w/o their only SP prospect up here? Exciting times! 94 losses, here we come! People really think Hughes will be healthy enough to start? IF he is healthy, move him to the bullpen and put Berrios in the rotation. Throw us a bone for the future having some hope. please.
  22. Also from what I read a lot of the road problems were caused by a few trucks or cars basically blocking highways and other major arteries......a few bad apples, as it were.
  23. From what I'm reading and watching..... There is no equipment to manage the roads, which makes sense if this happens 3 times a year... People have NO IDEA how to drive in ice/snow The hills are really steep (you don't know how flat MN is until you leave MN) The schools were ridiculed after the last storm for closing, so of course they weren't going to close again Pretty big cluster, really. I'm hoping we can get into the city today, for marriage counseling, brewery visit, and caroling on THE street in Portland for Xmas lights.....but I have my doubts.
  24. Well, if football is education, then make it like classes and make the participants pay to be in them, like art and music.....if they aren't actually education, then maybe they should be abolished, so the U can be about education. We are the only nation that has college sports like this, and our education system isn't as good as many others.....might not be a coincidence. Priorities in many layers of the education system seem a bit off....
