  1. That's what everyone said about their closer.....I think Canterino is in the bullpen this year.
  2. Nick's point stands, but I think they'll struggle to replace Gray's contribution this year..... Also, it would be nice if they kept guys and added guys, rather than replacing them, so the team got better. Like, keep Gray and add Montgomery is better than lose Gray and add Montgomery (it's an example, not realistic with their budget). I love Lee, but projecting him to be as good as CC is odd to me. CC was on a HoF path .... and still might be if he's healthy for the next 5 years.
  3. I bet you could read that every decade since the game started. And yet, here we are.
  4. Verizon and it's big dividend is where some of my money is going. But I'm older now, so less risk in some areas is important.
  5. I rode Nvidia to a very nice year. Still haven't fully recovered from not cashing out two stocks at their peak.... But closer.
  6. For those interested in the value of zips, there is plenty of data on line about its usefulness relative to the stats you all know.... I also will believe it when I see it with Buxton, but that has very little to do with the model, which has a hard time knowing medical conditions.
  7. agreed. And, if they really love a QB they can move up back into round 1 if they want. But I'm all in on fixing the team for the coming year and forgoing QB if they sign Kirk (assuming no QB is there late in round or early round 3 to deal from 2025 picks to move up for, which, seems like a good assumption).
  8. They played 3-4 abysmal offenses. When they didn't, they were quite bad. And, Hunter is a FA.....
  9. The issue is they can't fix the D if they use a first on a QB and sign Kirk...not in the first year surely....so, good luck fixing it in the last year Kirk is here. That's a lot to put on Kirk (and wasting 2 years of the new QB not playing with the great O they have now). I just don't like the idea of using limited capital on 2 QBs, given this D. YMMV, of course. Penix and Nix are older...by the time they play in your system they are 25 and 26. Not sure I'm up for that.
  10. CBS sports has a new mock up today, with Penix going 8th to Atlanta.....for those that are sure last night hurt his draft stock.
  11. There is a chart on Twitter showing quadrants of cap space and draft capital. The Vikes are just above average in both....but under 25 million in effective cap space. If that's right, I don't know how you sign Kirk and Hunter and any really good FAs....other than cap magic. Oh, and pay the 11th overall pick. The Bears are way above the Vikes in cap space and draft capital, and the Lions have A LOT more cap space than MN. I wonder how competitive those two are if they do the right things, and if that effects MN 's decisions on short vs long term thinking (it shouldn't, I think?)?
  12. I'm going to speculate the Dodgers don't pay him that much if they thought he was only a 2 WAR player.....but I could be wrong here. Either way, we've all made our points and no one is changing their mind.
  13. Except not many people get QOs....that's the point here. 14 got one in 2022...and 2 accepted...so, top 15 give or take? And, as has been pointed out, the Dodgers have A LOT of money to spend. And 8.5 million of the money is deferred over 9 years starting in 2030, so his present value isn't at QO level.
  14. How long will the rest of the O be top though? 3 seasons from now everyone could be gone/hurt, or great! That's a LONG WAY off. That last part is my point about Kirk....if the D can't be good in 1 year, you are putting all your chips on 2025. (or being very lucky in 2024). Not having a better draft two years ago really, really, complicates the math for me (maybe they know Hunter is coming back, etc. and it isn't that hard for them).
  15. Only 7 players got QOs this year.....do we think Kepler will be a top 10 FA next year? If so, the Twins should just extend him if he'll take the money....but sure, if he's one of the top 10 FAs next year, they might do a QO. I'll take the under on that. We disagree. I'm ok with that.
  16. mike 2:43 The Twins have done the least work so far......what do you think they'll do first? Jay Jaffe 2:44 They're not in bad shape. Dan published their ZiPS projections today and called them an 85-90 win team https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2024-zips-projections-minnesota-twins/ 2:46 To my eyes they could use another starter and another bat to put into the 1B/corner OF/DH mix
  17. Did this a few years ago, where I posted TWins's stuff as I found it on the interwebs...... https://blogs.fangraphs.com/2024-zips-projections-minnesota-twins/
  18. The Dodgers have infinitely more money than the Twins. They can take that risk....the Twins can't, imo, take the risk those players take the QO and are not good.
  19. I think we'll disagree here, and I'm ok with that. I don't think any of hte top 3 sit more than a few games (assuming health) if any games, in the coming year. After that? Hard to say, since we don't know if they go to team with a viable option (or what else that team does/needs).
  20. You can point to guys that don't work. That doesn't mean teams won't try it, which was what the post said. Guys don't work at every position in the game, in round 1 all the time. That doesn't mean teams wills stop starting them. Those are two very different things (also, that team is terrible and Young should never have been picked that high. He'd be 4th-6th best this year).
  21. None of whom were top picks.
  22. Neither of those were top 5 picks....there is a difference for sure. I don't feel that the Vikings are in position to sign Kirk, with this D, and draft a QB in round 1, and have a good team next year. Not with Hunter a FA and the D having like 4 even average starters. I could, of course, be wrong. They could get every move right and fix the D with one day 2 pick and having spent 30-40 million on Kirk, but that's going to require amazing work by a FO that hasn't shown anyting near that....
  23. If he's here, I want them trying to win NOW, not using early picks on a QB. Either play for now, or for the future. They don't have the draft capital to win by investing in two QBs (30 million a year for Kirk eats a lot of FA money, and they have one day 2 pick). Either sign Kirk and try to win, or move on. This middle ground is the worst plan. Also, Stroud says hi. I don't think for one minute the top 3 QBs this year will sit around for more than a handful of games, if any.
  24. I think everyone but Paddock is slated to pitch as many innings as they are effective and healthy. I don't know if that rotation is great, though.....but I don't think anyone is limited at this point other than Paddock.
  25. I'd deal down in round 1 and take Nix at around 15-18? Get a 2nd/3rd and 4th? If I take a QB round 1 though, I don't want Kirk here. Just roll the dice with the new guy and invest heavily in D and interior OL.
