  1. Pelfrey was unimpressive again today. And yet, the Twins bats pulled another one out today. Fun to watch.
  2. Any new updates?
  3. I don't know if it's an unwritten rule exclusive to baseball. I played 3 sports in high school and we 'got back' at others in a way that let the other team know we were to be respected, even if we were not in that game. Same with war or anything else, look at Sept 11. Was it smart to get involved in that war for really any other reason other than, a retaliation that says, "we won't tolerate this type of behavior" or we'll respond. Those are just ways you keep another team honest. It's like a child or a kid cheating on a test. You may not be able to re-route the behavior entirely, but you gave a response to that stimulus. 7-0 makes it a little tougher, but if ANYONE played the shift on me, I'd bat 1.000 (minus user error - me) and bunt the crap out of them. I realize in marriage and in friendships, it's best you don't respond. But in many other cases, I'd subscribe to the 'high and tight' next time around mentality.
  4. Walks aren't 'fun'...but I will say, the patience of the Twins hitters as well as not diving after that low and away slider (Torii Hunter re-runs in my mind) is rather refreshing. This team has pretty good discipline. Now if we could just get Joe Mauer to go Kirby Puckett on a few first pitch fastballs and get him to lay off the inside stuff he seems to be striking out on...
  5. Watching him strikeout...over and over. I gotta think that concussion, ball to the head, did more than we think it did. He's not old enough for this kind of decline. Puckett was never the same after getting hit in the head, neither was Morneau. Mauer...could be the same thing perhaps.
  6. Would have to listen to any offer. But the Sox would have to know the Twins Socks off. As others mentioned, I don't seem the stopgap being as expensive as Dozier. Perhaps the Red Sox acquire a Omar Infante or Emilio Bonifacio (Cubs) type of player. I think the Cubs have 3 2B on the roster. Bonifacio, Barney (GG winner), and Valbeuna in addition to having 2 top 10 prospects at AAA in Arismendy Alcantara and Javier Baez. Baez is a SS now, however it doesn't seem like he'll stick at SS and the fact they have Starlin Castro, only 23 years old, a the position. 3B was/is an option, however they have Mike Olt there now and Kris Bryant in AA...and likely call up in Sept. So 2B is definitely a position of plenty for the Cubs. So I could see any of those solutions. Cubs would be willing to take a flyer of a prospect by comparison of value to what a team like the Twins would do as in June after the Super 2 date passes they'll want to bring Baez up anyway.
  7. An interview of Kohl after his first start for those interested...link below with video clip. Pitching in front of his mother and father, he showed a smooth, repeatable delivery, a fastball that topped out at 94 miles per hour and a solid changeup. His breaking ball was inconsistent. “Exactly,” he said, when offered the theory his outing was a solid foundation from which to build this season. “I just want to keep pounding the zone. Hopefully I can get better and better.” “For a young kid like that, he’s got pretty good command,” Mauer said. “He’s got a big arm. We’ve got to clean up some of the other things, some of the small things around it, but he was very impressive. His first start here was a good one, no doubt about it.” Read more: http://www.kcrg.com/sports/local/Stewart-Survives-Line-Drive-To-The-Leg-Wins-Kernels-Debut---254132551.html#ixzz2ym18QFDJ
  8. Can't find the interview I mentioned... But here's a little bit of another interview, where you hear some comments from Kohl... Read more: http://www.kcrg.com/sports/local/Stewart-Survives-Line-Drive-To-The-Leg-Wins-Kernels-Debut---254132551.html#ixzz2ym18QFDJ
  9. I noticed Vielma came out of the game early last night...for Wade. Hoping it wasn't injury related.
  10. I watched an interview on the local news (Cedar Rapids) and Kohl said the coaches were having him only throw 2 pitches and to focus on just hammering the strike zone with those pitches. I don't know for sure, of course, but that may have had to do with the strikeouts. As from the interview, it felt like they wanted him to focus on developing, location and effectiveness, of those pitches.
  11. He [Walker] just hit his 4th HR in 9 games tonight...
  12. Walker hit his 4th HR tonight in 9 games...
  13. I am with much of the group that says...at LEAST 1-2 more seasons before I'd talk contract extension. A few reasons: One, 2B is arguably our deepest position in the minors. With Rosario, Polanco, and Goodrum we have 3 of our top 15 prospects (or wherever Goodrum lands on your prospect list). Rosario and Polanco are top 8 across most publications. Rosario was at AA...Polanco and Goodrum at A+...so in 2 years they'd 'expected' to push for a roster spot with the Twins. Two, Dozier isn't a SS. Three, the financial sense...as it appears his service time makes him a FA in 2019. He's not Andrelton Simmons or Evan Longoria or Mike Trout. These guys are arguably the top players at their positions. He doesn't fit the "if he hits FA he'll cost a ton" category. What would Dozier attract in the FA market this past Winter? Any guesses? 4-5 year deal? $8-$10M per? Maybe that's too high even. He had only one semi solid season.
  14. I agree. I'd want someone who can hit better...who wouldn't right? It's important to realize, the guy is 19 years old. Miguel Cabrera, who along with Pujols, is probably this generation's best hitter hit only .268 as an 18 year old at A, and .274 at A+ as a 19 year old. Power? He only had 7 HR in 422 AB at 18. Then 9 HR in 489 AB as a 19 year old. So Vielma will hit around .280 with 25 HR if you compare him to Cabrera. Good enough for me. What does this all mean? They're 18 and 19 years old. You can't really project much yet, especially as a hitter. Fielding, you can. That is with great accuracy, you can say a 18 year old may or may not be a gold glove fielder or has a cannon for an arm. However, with less accuracy can you predict what a hitter will hit. Lewis Thorpe gained 50 lbs in less than 18 months. I went through the same growth spurt at 18. Vielma is coming from a sparse diet to an MLB team who'll probably give him nutrition that will maximize his workouts. We won't know what kind of hitter he might be until about 1000 AB in the minors with at least 500+ of those coming against A+/AA or higher pitching. Look at Niko Goodrum this year...could really be turning the corner, he's 22 at A+. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=goodru001car
  15. If you don't mind, where did you catch the game footage from? I've looked at MiLB packages...but they seem to cover all AAA...some AA...and no A/A+. Would love to catch the Kernels & Miracle somehow.
  16. Among the options below... 1. Anyone know why the Tigers would rather go with "A" than "B"? 2. Would you rather have "A" or "C"?
  17. The Miracle are easily the most interesting team (for me) to watch this year. Albeit, if they continue as they are...come middle June New Britain will be the most interesting team to watch. Also, speaking of New Britain, any new word on when is Byron Buxton coming back?
  18. Why is it 5 years away (2019)...was thinking he had enough service time for only 3 more cost controlled years (2015, 2016, & 2017, FA in 2018)?
  19. 1. I think if a 'big team' wanted to sign Drew, it'd be done now. What's $12M vs $14M vs $16M if you're 'a big team'...nothing and the winning teams - draft pick compensation isn't that much of a big deal. 2. Signing Drew has to be for 2 years to get compensation AND we have to offer him the $14M+ for his age 34 season, of which, he'd likely gladly sign, and him not take it and someone else sign him 3 years younger than he is now for the same scenario he is in now. AKA...compensation is NOT happening after the fact for any team in signing Stephen Drew deal. 3. There's no reason to assume Drew would get more from a team after the June Draft pick deadline than now. SABR studies will tell you the obvious, a win is a win, whether it's in April or August. If "big teams" think Drew will provide some wins now, he'd be signed. 4. Twins are not a contender. He would not fix the eye-sore that is our current shortstop situation. Is he better sure, but he's not coming to the Twins for a 1 year or 2 year deal, unless that's the absolute last deal on the table. His camp is hoping for an injury from the contenders or big clubs, much like the Tigers experienced - but they were more than willing to try fliers on the "Nunez's" of MLB and AAA than pay Stephen Drew. 5. Hope Santana can play some defense...that's where we're at. And perhaps Polanco getting a cup of coffee at the end of the year...he's already on the 40-man roster.
  20. Anyone seen how Adam Walker has looked. He has 2 home runs in 6 games(?) - but how has he looked overall? Especially in regard to strike zone judgement. Would love to hear if anyone has seen any of the games.
  21. Interesting thing...runs per game, Twins have the best offense in MLB. It´s only 6 games...but hey. NEVER thought we could say that, even for 1 game in.
  22. It's so weird to not to be able to read this and not read names like... "Buxton...Sano...Rosario..." Arguably, our organization's top 3 hitters...not playing on opening day.
  23. Was encouraged by Aaron Hicks this weekend. He didn't look out of place in any of the at bats I saw...only missed 2 at bats.
  24. Oh boy...first to question...but last to this party... Well....Hmmm... As far as who's left. Some very noteworthy pitchers: Brian Gilbert Yorman Landa Aaron Slegers Zack Jones Brandon Peterson Tyler Stirewalt Austin Malinowski Leonel Zazueta Brandon Bixler Luke Bard Hitters: Lewin Diaz Zack Granite Mitch Garver Rony Tapia Jason Kanzler Tyler Grimes Joel Polanco Jorge Fernandez Nate Roberts Nelson Molina Bo Altobelli
  25. Interesting thought Thrylos... I live in Dallas, born and raised in MN. Twins are my favorite sports team, though I've been away from MN almost 8 years now. I wouldn't consider myself a big hockey fan, BUT, in your Wild/North Stars example....I tend to side with the "Stars" over the Wild...but kinda not sure if the Dallas factor has some influence. Although, I HATE the Cowboys, and love to see them lose nearly as much as the Yankees. So maybe it has to do with the success of '90-'91 Stars that went to the Finals. I was pretty young...10 years old...and just starting to find hockey. Baseball was my first love though...my granddad and his brother on my mom's side played amateur ball as did my dad. A baseball glove was on my hand as soon as I had any dexterity. And we went to Twins caravans at the Best Western in Marshall, MN almost every Winter. And if Oliva or Killebrew were going to be at one, we'd also go there, often trecking up to Sleepy Eye, Mankato, New Ulm if it had a good group of former/current players. My dad would relive the 60's when he'd see Tony Oliva and Harmon Killebrew at those things. Great times.
