  1. I seriously doubt black youth are any more or less incorrigible than rural youth or white youth or any other. And then we are supposed to compare those youth to some predominantly white police departments (who are adults) who have perverted their mission so much that they still have "nickel rides," planting of evidence, lying on the record, donor cop programs like the Oklahoma one, the list goes on. I hope these types of police departments are very, very rare. They are a much bigger menace than youth race gangs. You mentioned some work experience with troubled youth so I will concede you might know about some data that the rest of don't. The broader picture looks pretty clear to me, though. There is no bad apples comparison to draw here.
  2. Agree, though I might write it up something like Hicks-Robinson-Arcia.
  3. I was going to vote "At the All Star Game" but apparently that's not an option.
  4. Any discussion of Torii Hunter's value to this team needs to begin with the phrase "At the plate..." Just like it's assumed that every post on TD is preceded by the phrase "It is my humble opinion that..."
  5. Nickel rides? What year is this? So it looks like those Baltimore cops are being charged individually and going on trial, as they should, in my opinion. Doesn't matter if they are men, women, white, black, hispanic, whatever, these are individuals, and not fit for duty. Absolutely.
  6. When police departments across the country start reflecting the community they are policing, then get back to me.
  7. I didn't phrase my example very well. I wasn't trying to score a political point against you, so I apologize. I was only trying to point out an interesting paradox about how it took violent protests to bring this issue into the public consciousness. Even though very, very few of the protesters were prone to violence, and those that were, were mostly youth, about the same age as the typical hockey rioter, probably. Anyway, the violence will reinforce bigoted beliefs in some people watching on television, but the issue at hand is finally being addressed. Even though it should never get to this point.
  8. Not trying to pick on you, but I respectfully disagree. Being polite and classy and protesting nonviolently didn't seem to raise awareness of the police brutality issue one bit. For example, if the protests to the Michael Brown killing hadn't gotten violent, would the protests have gotten as much coverage? Doubt it. And then, would it come to light that Ferguson is 66% black, but the Ferguson police department is 90% white? Personally, I don't think I would have learned very much about the police brutality issue if the violent protests hadn't happened. I'm not advocating violence, I'm just throwing the whole idea out there.
  9. Mostly true. Or, the Twins could sign or trade for a few guys who have already developed, are in their prime, and can be counted on to perform above average. That's not how I'd prefer to see it done (I like seeing guys develop from within), but it's just as valid.
  10. I'm imagining the contracts for building the new Vikings stadium not having any timelines. Lol not gonna fly
  11. Good question. Never seen them presented quite this way. For now I will say that there's no reason Houston isn't for real. Like the Twins in 2001 who out of no where started out hot and stayed in front most of the season.
  12. Someone explain to me that "sweep scoop" technique he uses. A tiny bit more effort and he could be in position to make an easy feet-first slide catch or heaven forbid, and head first dive.
  13. As of tonight's Detroit game, Pelfrey is pitching very well. Nobody expects a whole season of this, but stranger things have happened. Ride the hot hand. Keep him in the rotation. Ricky Nolasco? When you get back from your rehab, there is a new place for you to sit. Easy Eddie will take you out there and explain...
  14. Well, I think you've just been assigned to do all Pelfrey starts from this point forward!
  15. Great outing by Pelfrey. Looks like he kept the Tigers off the bases and recorded a bunch of strikeouts. I wouldn't sign him to an extension yet but would keep him the rotation*. I just tuned in and assumed it would be the fifth inning or something. *for a couple more, anyway
  16. You had to mention it? Rookie mistake.
  17. I've never seen anything that inflammatory on any Twins fan site. The Internet is not the Wild West anymore. Also, Hamilton gets a free lifetime pass from me, considering Hamilton tried to toss a souvenir baseball to a fan in good fun, and the fan lost his balance reaching over a railing for it and fell to his death.
  18. Seems like Molitor has gone many games without using a PH at all. I like the idea of letting your nine starters finish, but I also wonder if Molitor is maybe just making some rookie blunders trying to overthink the hitter vs pitcher, field substitutions, game scenarios two-innings down the road, all that stuff that Kelly and Gardy made look so easy.
  19. you are correct; Santana is here hasn't even pitched yet and gets his shot. And... he can pitch. I shouldn't have included his name. But if the Twins are going through this routine with Nolasco this time next year, however, they should really consider something like just cutting him. Even with 1+ year left. My opinion. Other teams are doing it so it's clearly not a far fetched idea.
  20. If this game thread were the Gong show, I'd be gonged... And it would be the long entertaining dancing gong, where everybody's having fun except for the sad sack on stage who's about to cry and doesn't know if he should continue
  21. Anybody on base, or where they all solo shots?
  22. 3 hrs at the gym today and my feet hurt 3 hrs at the gym today 3 hrs 3 homers ??? I ask again...
