Seems like Molitor has gone many games without using a PH at all. I like the idea of letting your nine starters finish, but I also wonder if Molitor is maybe just making some rookie blunders trying to overthink the hitter vs pitcher, field substitutions, game scenarios two-innings down the road, all that stuff that Kelly and Gardy made look so easy.

you are correct; Santana is here hasn't even pitched yet and gets his shot. And... he can pitch. I shouldn't have included his name. But if the Twins are going through this routine with Nolasco this time next year, however, they should really consider something like just cutting him. Even with 1+ year left. My opinion. Other teams are doing it so it's clearly not a far fetched idea.

    And with that...

If this game thread were the Gong show, I'd be gonged... And it would be the long entertaining dancing gong, where everybody's having fun except for the sad sack on stage who's about to cry and doesn't know if he should continue

Following on MLB, and I am seeing things like: Pickoff attempt, Pickoff attempt, Pickoff attempt, wild pitch, runner to second. Uff da.

About that, I do not know. For all his flaws, I do think Gardy has plenty of good selling points. He's loyal and personable. Good instincts. He knows the league. (I see him as an AL guy.) He can hit the ground running Day 1, as opposed to Ausmus, who sent text messages to Leyland last year during slumps. Depends on how serious Gardy is about adapting the hiring organization's ideas about the game, analytics, choosing pitching coach, etc. I think a lot of teams would be open minded about hiring a guy like Gardy, not all, but many.

I accept your comment at face value. We should give Ervin Santana the rest of the season. If he performs, we should invite him to spring training next year. Otherwise, you're letting these types of guys divert attention/resources/whatever from other guys like Berrios and Meyer. For example, innings pitched in spring training. What would the Dodgers or Marlins do? (besides not sign them in the first place)

contract not even through this season. Through next season. You linked to this story about the Dodgers doing this with their bullpen. http://www.foxsports.com/mlb/just-a-bit-outside/story/los-angeles-dodgers-bullpen-joel-peralta-nicasio-garcia-baez-rodriguez-hatcher-liberatore-042215 Lots of people scoff when someone on these boards suggests DFA-ing Nolasco or Santana. Actually, not such a far-fetched idea!

All true perhaps, but I'm not going to underestimate him. The old-fashionedness comes from the organizational culture here, and wasn't just him. Gardy said in the press conference that he will manage again. That's a professional agency he hired. He'll be back.

    you tell me

I bet Vargas is down to single digit plate appearances before he returns to Rochester. There are other guys who can DH who can use those PA. Also, add Oliveros back to the 25 man before he gets bored and frustrated like Meyer did.

Well said, JB. That's gotta be tender for a couple days and I wouldn't be surprised if he gets pushed back or misses a start. Though it's anybody's guess now how the Twins would shuffle their rotation if he does need time. Also some other good nuggets in that link.
