  1. There is neither a history of command issues or of health concerns. He was given precautionary rest for his shoulder two years ago. He had no command issues until about this time last season. That's it. Maybe it got in his head seeing guys like Kris Johnson and Yohan Pino being promoted ahead of him. Who knows. It's all guessing. The Rochester bullpen is a good place for him right now. Or the big league bullpen.
  2. The main worry I have is that the Santana/Escobar mess at SS/DH could use an immediate upgrade, as has been well debated here. Most in the TD community would love to see a bat promoted from the minors (Polanco, Vargas, whoever) as part of that upgrade, while Paulie and Ryan feel the current guys give us the best chance. So far they've been right. Something needs to click with Santana very soon.
  3. Would you say it's urgent for Ryan to get Vargas or Arcia back up here to help with DH duties?
  4. Unbelievable. Thank you Torii for that three run bomb early on!
  5. Look higher and listen, and make use of the pause button. It missed being a home run by about a foot. 17 foot high fence. Hick's only play was a deke.
  6. He still should have caught it.
  7. Holy Sh-- You are right. Great job sticking with it. I was in the warning track group like everyone else until I cued in on the sound, like you suggested. I'm not sure what this means for the Internet.
  8. Wait, was Nolasco put on the 15-day DL or the 60-day DL?
  9. I don't agree that he misread the ball, but I do agree that if he continued to sprint for it he might have gotten to it. He would then have been scraped off the wall by the trainer and coaches like an insect off a windshield. I think he made the conservative play but there's nothing wrong with that in the first inning.
  10. I think Chief was looking down into his scorebook and writing "E-8, no RBI" by that time
  11. Which always counts for a little something
  12. Ouch! First place on June 1st and people are applauding Terry Ryan for punting the season away! Are the guys in the dugout aware of this?
  13. I'm glad Milone is back. He deserves a rotation spot again after his run in Rochester.
  14. Here's the funny thing to me. I saw enough of Escobar filling in full time at short last year and have seen enough of Santana playing short, and my opinion is that Escobar is a better shortstop. Therefore, Escobar to short and Santana to DH actually improves the lineup. But we can do better than Santana at DH.
  15. "Santana's progress".... is that code for "Santana is not that good yet we still run him out there"?
  16. Colabello grew up in a baseball family, so not exactly a rags-to-riches story, but give him a ton of credit for believing in himself and not quitting. Imagine how good this guy would have been with the benefit of an MLB-affiliated minor league system to bring him up.
  17. What about Plan C.... Escobar? Going into spring training I seem to remember a debate between Ryan and Molitor about what to do with Santana and Escobar. (Admittedly you really have to read between the lines in their public statements.) seemed like Ryan was ok with Santana back in CF as a stop gap and Escobar as full time SS, but Molitor's idea won out, with Santana getting a full time audition at SS and Escobar as utility. I agree completely that Santana should be moved off short. Two months is plenty of time to show something. You might have seen the game last Friday when the Jays pounded Trevor May and came back to win. Right before Donaldson's three run bomb, a Jays player hit a line drive to short which Santana (good positioning, by the way) jumped for, but didn't catch. It hit the bottom heel of Santana's glove, as opposed to the top of the webbing. Might have been one less run scored against us if Santana makes that nice catch. Little plays like that don't show up in the box score. I think Santana also got picked off by Buehrle that game too.
  18. I think they should call up Chih-Wei Hu to make the spot start Wednesday.
  19. LOL thank you I almost opened the link I might summon the courage if the rest the afternoon goes well.
  20. What drjim said. Big hitting guys like Colabello giveth and taketh away. He played Torii's warning track fly ball into the game winning double today, so there's that. It was well hit and would have been a very nice catch but nice catches are expected in MLB.
  21. This thread could also be called Sano Mashing at Rochester
  22. Good points made here, but it still doesn't justify using Escobar at DH.
