  1. this is what I've been thinking. Is it too late to do a Berrios-O'Rourke swap before September 1?
  2. The Berrios call up is the big one that hopefully happens prior to Sept. 1
  3. 4. 6. 3. CBU: 7-0 good guys, after 8.
  4. one of those home runs the third baseman or shortstop makes a token leap for, but it never spins back down to earth, yeah it was one of those. the Pohlads can afford to replace a row of damaged seats out in the left field bleachers.
  5. JoJo comes through wth an insurance run for the previous insurance run.....
  6. You are not the only one who thought that was strange...............
  7. It cracks me up how teams still play Escobar so shallow!
  8. The letter of the day is "K" Backward or forward
  9. we will chalk that up as an official "call"
  10. Just walked inn to see NUNEZ!!!!!!
  11. Just walked in to see Herrmann nail a runner at second
  12. Perhaps with a dash of Chris Herrmann
  13. It's still not clear the correct decision was made. Who is more likely to beat out a slow chopper? Who is more likely to hit an inside the park homer, in the event an outfielder has trouble picking up the ball? Who is most likely to get on base so the next guy up can hit a go-ahead homer? Who is most likely to score from first if the next guy up hit a single? From the sounds of it, though, Herrmann was more likely to hit a home run than Buxton was to even make contact. Just a weird situation all around.
  14. Madison Bumgarner is 1 for 2 pinch hitting this season (base hit was line drive to outfield). Maybe we could go after him in the offseason. Ok, no more snark from me. The jokes write themselves. I can't even... Anyway, this team is playing really well. Another game tonight to focus on.
  15. Vargas, Arcia and Pinto went a combined 3-11 in pinch hitting duty last night in Rochester.
  16. Did Herrmann try to bunt his way on, by chance?
  17. ah thanks. http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/04/150406121354.htm Guilty of hasty reply before reading further in thread.
  18. True. Not all innings look alike. I think Mike could be right. Link? Foggy memory, but I seem to recall when Johan pitched his no hitter for the Mets, some article showed that pitchers faced most risk when pitch count exceeded something like 130 pitches in a game. Johan needed more pitches than that, and didn't pitch well anytime thereafter, so the narrative became that his no hitter ended his career. I hope that's wrong so that someone will be motivated to correct me, but pretty sure I read that
  19. I approve. IIRC the Nationals used the "hard innings" method on Strasburg the year he came back from TJ, instead of the look feel method, and their postseason ended in disappointment with their best pitcher watching from the bench (TJ is a little bit different beast, I admit). There's no hard inning limit, but you don't want to blow past that 20-30% bench mark with complete disregard, either. I assume the Twins would manage Berrios's innings so that he can pitch as late into the season as is needed. This is tricky, but in a good way!
  20. Yeah but did he show consistency?
  21. Pelfrey is an interesting option. You could pitch Pelfrey and hope he is on his game. If not, yank him immediately. Molitor has not been afraid to do that with him. Tim Hudson got the hook in the second inning of Game 7 last fall. Outside the box thinking
  22. I think you are absolutely right, Charlie Brown. Berrios. Why not? All the current starters give me a queasy feeling in any potential wild card game scenario. Trevor May must also pitch in that game at some point. Another idea would be to start Duffey but if his curve isn't getting swings and misses, pull him out, hopefully while the score is still low. Then bring in Trevor May for several innings if necessary, a la Bumgarner Game 7.
  23. This is a fascinating question. If you are a manager would you rather have a starter you can use just once every fifth day, and who is going to surrender an unknown number of runs over an unknown number of innings? Or would you rather have a guy who you can use twice in those five days, on days and innings of your choosing, who you are confident will not allow any runs? Yet moving from starter to reliever was clearly a demotion in this case. Half the rotation was in line for a demotion before May, but somehow May made the most sense. Maybe pay Trevor May as a starter but use him as a reliever?
  24. WOW. Way to stick with it, boys!
  25. Little help out in the field, maybe? How many extra pitches does our injured pitcher have in him?
