  1. Twins employing a Robinson-Hunter platoon. Who says they don't platoon?
  2. Twins fans here on TD were proposing this? Do you have a link?
  3. two ships crossing on our simultaneous posts If anybody has awakened me to the value of the strikeout, it's been you and the TD writers. Plus, watching our guy strike out the other guy is just DAMN FUN.
  4. Yes and this could also be said of Pelfrey. He hit 100 pitches and was out of the game in a snap, even though May was our only decent option after him. Are the Twins saving Pelfrey for next year? Was he signalling he wanted to come out of the game? Who knows. Doesn't matter. The truth is, nice guy he may be, Pelfrey doesn't figure to cut it as a starter any more. His K% has dropped to 88 of 89 among all qualified starters. Right behind Buehrle (savvy lefty rubber arm and WS winner) and ahead of only Jeremy Guthrie for the Royals, a team that takes it's bullpen seriously. The paradox of the strikeout seems to be that it's not a big deal for good hitters to strike out (see Sano, Miguel) but having bullpen guys who strike out good hitters is crucial. I don't know if the strikeout is the best indicator for a successful bullpen pitcher, but it's got to be better than whatever the Twins are using. Doing a rough query on Fangraphs, I find 225 relievers who have pitched at least 20 innings this season. Here are where the Twins relievers are, ranked by K% on that list of 225: 115. Perkins 147. Jepsen 158. Pressly 160. Graham 206. Fien 219. Thompson 220. Boyer 222. Duensing Out of 225. Our best guy isn't even in the top half. Come on, people!
  5. I actually like O'Rourke. I like his strikeout numbers and this bullpen needs strikeouts badly. From the sound of it, he was shell shocked pitching in that big situation tonight, which was unfortunate. The pitching still has a long way to go, but the everyday lineup is very close to being very, very good. Sano is potentially elite. His name could be on the home run leaderboard in 2016 with the benefit of starting on opening day like everyone else.
  6. Agree, these free agent contracts have not exactly worked out for the best.
  7. If they are not going to DL Perkins right away, shouldn't they option someone (maybe O'Rourke) and send someone over from Rochester for tomorrow afternoon?
  8. I love adding my 2¢ to these discussions. I don't think we'll ever know where Nunez would have thrown the ball. Once there's a bobble, all bets are off. The real question is, why did Paul O'Neill kick the ball to first when he should have kicked it to home plate (or at least the cutoff man) http://mlb.mlb.com/assets/images/6/8/6/80070686/cuts/PaulOneill_0da8gdrs_111z9ifp.gif
  9. I have an idea on this. I don't know if I'm dreaming it or if it is based in reality somewhat. All Star game. Dozier homers in top of the 8th. Twins fans feeling good. Top of the 9th and the beast comes in, Aroldis Chapman. He's throwing 103 mph, consistently 103, and everybody is just kind of watching him slack-jawed. I think Chapman struck out the side on 9 pitches or something stupid like that. Bottom of 9th and Perkins comes in. I'm kind of feeling bad, as Chapman is a tough act to follow. I was watching Perk, and I wonder if he didn't try to overthrow his fastball those first few pitches, just to look the part of an all star, and ended up pulling a muscle or joint somewhere. All I know is he hasn't been the same since the All Star game.
  10. Didn't realize Nunez stood up and took the blame. I kind of appreciate that. But I hope 5 or 6 other guys did that too. I am sick of these Yankees losses.
  11. For the record, no one forced me to click on this thread and read it against my will LOL I think Escobar can be a stop gap until Santana or someone else takes over. Nunez can hit, cannot field. That's the trade off. Suzuki is brutal. I know the Twins are in love with Suzuki's .585 OPS but he's just a backup at this point. Like Nunez and Escobar, I guess.
  12. Jepsen had a good inning. That's it. Fien had a good stat line. Gibson did not pitch inside all might (that I saw). That's on everyone, including the catcher and coaches.
  13. Yeah I would agree. This is honestly where the coaching and analytic staff helps.
  14. ha ha but only when the other team has literally no more pitchers to bring in
  15. I feel a 7 dimensional chess win tonight......
  16. Or with his walk rate, still in the minors working "on things"
  17. Early in the season, Mauer was hitting dingers in these situations. That's a call! EDIT: no it wasnt
  18. Beltran did his best Joe Mauer impression?
  19. Give him a break. He's a 22 year old 5th round pick so he's only had 9 at bats.
