Good thoughts, but I feel like you are closer to our side than you realize. If Buxton needs to push through his struggles in MLB then Berrios should too. They play on different sides of the ball but as far as the maturing process, I don't see how it's that much different.

I don't remember Molly saying anything about "things Berrios needs to work on," it was about getting stretched out. Heck, we all have things we need to work on.

I know virtually nothing about the guy, so I am relying on you. You are welcomed to provide data or insight on Del Rosario on his prospect thread. However, my understanding is that those threads are meant to report and track progress and err on the side of being supportive.

Del Rosario is 21! I was following the play log as it was going on, and after a killer start Del Rosario pretty clearly began to falter suddenly. After he let in a run on a bases loaded walk, he was removed. The reliever pitched out of a stressful inning, Del Rosario maintains his low ERA, and the team won the game, so win-win for everyone. jmo

Actually I did, and a bunch of TwinsDaily pages came up. Maybe Tonkin has the right fingers to throw the sinker. Who knows. It's pretty apparent Gibson doesn't. How long has he been working on that thing? Gibson will be just fine with a fastball-slider combo. He just needs to have faith. -
I think you are on to something, even if that Mauer pop up would have been a hard read. I can't really second guess anything Molly did there in the ninth, but you have to admit there were a lot of slow, lumbering earth-movers out there that inning.

Rosario took K-Rod deep in a high leverage spot last season, so I guess it depends on how rotted K-Rod's corpse was in that previous game. Edit: smiley face for levity.

Other than Duffy today, the Twins figure to face Jose Quintana a couple times, and probably Kluber during the four game series vs Cleveland in the third week. So, lefties at no more than the typical frequency, but good lefties.

I get that the roster will change quickly, but... sheesh. The plan was for Mauer to DH more, and he's also a candidate to be pinch-run for occasionally. Not a lot of flexibility here the first week or two.

Do the new rules allow for backdating the disabled list into spring training? If so, was there discussion of putting Vargas on the 10-day Disabled List instead of optioning him?

Did anybody ask them who else besides Mauer will be playing first base? What was their answer?

Twins Brass Setting Up Molitor to Fail?

I come at it from the opposite angle. That it's the Twins brass letting Molitor do his thing. Falvey and Levine seemed pretty proactive at the start. They dumped Plouffe, tried to trade Dozier, and named Trevor May a starter. These are all things I was in favor of, though I did not care for the signing of Breslow. Then when the good will of Twins fest wore off and spring training started, it all seemed to fall apart. Almost like when they met the extended family, it was like the scene in Moneyball where Brad Pitt walks into the draft room with all those old scouts. Except Falvey is the nicest guy on the planet and doesn't want to hurt anyone's feelings. So he just turned most of the decisions over to the "old baseball men" one last time. Conspiracy theories beat the alternative, which is that Falvey is so incompetent at putting together a roster that he forgot to bring another player who can play first base besides Mauer, that there are 13 pitchers but two backup middle infielders on the active roster, and Danny Santana is the fourth outfielder. That is brutal and a recipe for failure. -

Well, yes and no. Mostly no, but who ever knows. At least some of us are trying to make sense of this debacle! Better to guess that there are things going on behind the scenes than to appraise this as reasonable roster making. -
