  1. The only issue I see is those teams buying proven starting pitching will not be the same teams selling proven relievers. So creativity will be needed.
  2. Motter showed a strong arm in right. Joe wearing his baggy shirt on that second HBP was huge.
  3. Glad for the Twins Lynn is finally pitching better. Missing spring training, he had to play a lot of catch up.
  4. The movie was as good as the book, but the book was excellent. I think a lot of the suggestions being offered are solutions in search of a problem. What the commissioner wants is more offense and quicker paced games. Those two things seem to be at odds with each other. The game could use an impartial commissioner again who represents players and fans. The desire to expand seems like a horrible idea for the game, though great for the owners.
  5. Really disappointing response by Molitor. "Had a chance to hold a lead, I get all that, but gotta have more offense." Well, 2-1 games are worth winning, too. Just my opinion. If he wants 7-10 runs every night he should quit and join a softball league. Sorry about the negativity.
  6. Garver took a wicked foul ball directly into the knee in Saturday's game, so I endorse the rest. The game was tied at the point you mention, with the possibility of Garver playing extra innings. Plus, he's not hitting anyway. Plus, Doze and Eddie were due up in the 9th!
  7. Firing the hitting coach worked! When can we fire the next one?
  8. When Buxton didn't attempt to steal off Hader in the Milwaukee game, it was understandable as that guy is a hard throwing lefty. Last night Buxton should have taken off. First pitch. Heck, first move. Buxton is fast enough, Herrera is a righty, not sure if he is good at holding runners, but the combination of a RHP, inexperienced first baseman, and Buxton's speed, he might have had a good chance to steal second even if Herrera's move is a pickoff attempt. Missed opportunity that probably wins the game if he makes it to second by simply makig the attempt.
  9. Also, it seems like the bullpen coach should be as data-driven as the rest of the coaches.
  10. Look, I know Buxton is struggling, but there's not much we fans can do. Obviously he is working on it. There's no way you'll ever be able to get back on the bandwagon when he gets good again, because I've purchased all the bandwagon seats. The core of these Royals teams had some really rough patches before putting it together in 204-2015. Moustakas 24 and 25 year old seasons were brutal. Gordon was rushed to the majors, struggled, and needed a position change. Etc. etc.
  11. hey here's a $20, go get me a beer before sales cut off please
  12. careful, we had a 12 run lead Saturday night...
  13. yeah that's not a bad idea. I'd move those three down, too, but that means moving guys up who don't deserve to be up there. I'd bat Buxton 6th or 7th, not sure why. When he's on base, he affects the game, and batting him 9th assures he'll have the least chances to get on base. Not that he's getting on base much now. Also, I'd hope Mauer comes back soon, although that's not likely.
  14. Glad I got caught up on this thread. I like Hughes as a person, but wasn't really interested in him as a MLB pitcher anymore, just as long as he wasn't pitching in close Twins games. Levine suggested on Sunday that cash (such as it is) from the Hughes-San Diego deal could be used in free agency next winter. We'll see, and I'm not really interested in any more of the bargain-types that we saw signed last winter. Hard to believe, but Carl Pohlad, 30 years ago, made Kirby Puckett the highest paid player in MLB at one point. I'm too young to appreciate that, but know well enough the Jim Pohlad is interesting in keeping every dirty cent he can and putting it back in his pocket. But, this front office is new in town, and a little on the young side themselves, so we might hear the same "all in" language next winter we heard last winter with Darvish. Better if Levine just says they will use the Hughes money to lock up one of our current guys, or work a trade, which truthfully to me is more desirable than gambling in free agency (given that you get what you pay for).
  15. I mostly agree with this, I was going to post a snarky joke in the game thread that Garver was breaking in a new catchers mitt but forgot to stick it between his mattresses last night and rub it down with oil (and thereby teeing up another game thread joke for someone else). However, I feel its unfair to claim that the front office is "dropping the ball" by not immediately trading for an All Star catcher currently playing in another organization. Not saying you specifically are doing that, but some seem to have that expectation. Our guy got hurt and is done for the year. It's unfortunate. It happens. The front office is working on improving this situation, guaranteed. Meantime, pitchers seem to like pitching to Garver, and he is not an easy out at the plate (in contrast to Castro), though the production hasn't really been there of late. It also looks like Garver's receiving skills are not polished, which was noticeable after people started pointing this out in the game thread last night (stabbing at borderline strikes that weren't at his glove, like Suzuki would, and assuring they'll be called balls). He had no chance to catch Romero's wild pitches in the 6th. Garver might improve, he might not, but probably will. Castro is done. It it is what it is. I'd play the catchers 50/50 or or 60/40 for Garver, until another guy is brought in (and then still might play them 50/50, depending).
