    Ober had better stats the first time through the lineup than any relief pitcher on the Twins roster. I guess they only have #8 caliber bullpen arms.

    This is the correct answer. Houston might agree to pay $1M more of Correa’s 2027 salary to acquire Larnach. I’m fine with cash considerations.

    I would look to add to the bullpen with whatever budget is left over after finding an infielder and a catcher. They have 5 spots taken by relievers without options: Hoffman, Nance, Banda, Funderburk and Gomez. I would move Ober to the bullpen because I think he’s a better pitcher than what you can get for $6M in free agency. That leaves 2 spots if you plan on optioning everyone with options (Sands, Morris, Adams, Festa). Leaving a spot open to move players with options up and down is a good idea. That means I would spend whatever I had left on the best arm I could find. I think that means a $6M pitcher who will keep Adams in AAA. That’s someone like Paul Blackburn, Kenley Jansen, Mark Leiter, etc.

    I would not be surprised if Arraez and Carson Kelly combine for the same salary commitment as Ryan Jeffers.

    The best options after that are signing Jazz or Arraez and moving Clemens to 1B. The next best after that is signing Gleyber Torres and moving him to 1B.

    The point is to win games, not to fully develop individual players. The platoon advantage is a real thing that has been part of baseball for over 130 years. I suppose the Twins could pretend it doesn’t exist, play batters against same handed pitchers more often, score fewer runs and lose more games. The platoon advantage will still exist even if they pretend it doesn’t.

    He hasn’t blown out his shoulder. That’s the career ending injury.

    Burleson is the only upgrade from Lewis. Diaz is a DH.

    I would also say people should be patient if Rodriguez is only getting 10ABs a week. That’s better than seeing him struggle every day for a month and then get benched every day for a month. It is okay to break players in against pitchers they are likely to succeed against. If they succeed in that role, you can expand it later. If they can’t succeed in the most favorable matchup that makes it hard to justify more playing time.

    I agree with you, but we can be certain that there will be increased revenue sharing. We have already seen that in the proposal from MLB. The Dodgers are going to have to give up something if MLB is going to get a deal done.

    Will he take a minor league contract with a $2M salary if he’s added to the MLB roster? They will need at least a dozen relievers to get through the season.

    Joe Ryan might be the bellwether for the offseason. If they sell Ryan, they’re looking at 2028 and should trade everyone over 30. If not, they need to spend $30M to add talent to compete in 2027.

    I think my recommendation on which path to follow would depend heavily on what is being offered for Joe Ryan. If they get a good deal for Ryan, I would start selling on anyone 30 or older: Ober, Kremer, Larnach, even Hoffman, Nance, Banda, Clemens and Caratini. Lopez, Buxton and the kids stay. Lopez stays because his trade value can only go up. If there aren’t any good offers for Ryan I would add a second baseman and a catcher and re-assess at the trade deadline. If they underperform again we will see as many players shipped out as we saw in 2025.

    You don’t have to upgrade on Clemens. You can upgrade on Royce and move Clemens to 1B.

    They should be spending on the right side of the infield and catcher.

    Culpepper at SS is offset by losing Jeffers. The difference between Larnach and Rodriguez is Larnach’s value comes from his bat and Rodriguez comes from his glove - push. Jenkins should improve on Wallner but that’s where most of the improvement comes from.

    The problem isn’t with the arbitration system. It is just acknowledging that the MLB minimum is a massive underpayment for the overwhelming majority of players.

    The Twins paid Kyle Farmer over $6M a season. They can pay Royce $5M to be a utility infielder. If they bring in one of the left-handed hitting second basemen, then he has a role to play. If they sign Gleyber Torres, he’s redundant. I think it is fascinating that Baseball Reference lists Jose Bautista as a comparable player for Royce.

    Martin makes the league minimum and still has a minor league option. Cutting him would be stupid.

    It would be very Twins-like to trade Joe Ryan and then spend a bunch of money on a relief pitcher while ignoring the right side of the infield. 75 wins again.
