  1. I hope he never throws 100 MPH in a game next summer. He's too young to be throwing that hard. It will ruin him.
  2. He's easily a top 10 guy. He's top 5 on most lists. Ceiling is higher than anyone except Balazovic.
  3. The track record is scary bad recently. MLB Draft: High school pitchers a bad choice in baseball - Sports Illustrated
  4. Miranda, Larnach, Kiriloff, Donaldson, Arraez and Austin Martin
  5. Because the current rotation looks terrible and the team will not be a contender. They also have plenty of roster depth for bats that can DH.
  6. If a team acquires one of those other bats that gives them the ability to move a lesser defender on their roster to DH. Out of the 15 NL teams 4-5 of them (Pirates, Reds, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Nationals) aren't even looking to compete in 2022 so they won't be adding expensive veterans. Another 3-6 will fill the job internally from the farm system or their current roster. 4-8 spots remaining and there are at least 6 free agents left never mind other trade options as good as Sano. I still think the Twins would get a better return for Sano in July than they would in March. Their current contract commitments are low. They probably won't even spend the money that is currently left in the 2022 budget.
  7. Just looking at available free agents Freeman, Bryant, Castellanos, Rizzo, Schwarber, Cruz and McCutchen all had better wOBA than Sano. Jorge Soler finished the season stronger with Atlanta than Sano did with the Twins. Mark Canha signed with an NL team for less than Sano already. Matt Olson is on the trade block.
  8. The Twins could get a better A-ball lottery ticket for him at the trade deadline after they've paid off half his salary. He could be a "Plan B" for a contender who needs to fill in for injured players. Sano's trade value is negative now but should rise as the season goes on and his contract gets smaller.
  9. I'm going to bet against that. Sano is a 1 WAR DH with a $12M salary.
  10. I think Andrew McCutchen is the player most helped by this rule change. He should be able to add a couple years to his career. Kyle Schwarber should also be happy. Players will be fighting over who gets to sign to DH in Colorado.
  11. Who is going to trade for Sano when they could just sign Nelson Cruz?
  12. I agree. Canterino's injury problems have been worse than Winder's. Petty hasn't done anything yet. Duran hasn't had success above A-ball.
  13. He's a pitcher on the 40 man roster who will be in AAA. He's a phone call away.
  14. Varland is from North St. Paul. They are likely to have played travel ball against each other.
  15. I saw an interesting comment elsewhere. They estimated that 2/3 of the TV money is from the playoffs but only 2% of player salary costs are from playoff games. If the owners shorten the season and force the players to take prorated salaries they come out way ahead. Dropping half the season would reduce salary costs almost 50% but income by only 30%. Would anyone stop watching baseball if they started 2 weeks later and the schedule was 144 games? That's still 72 home games per team. It would be a lot harder to get 3000 hits or 500 HR with fewer games in a season but otherwise I can't think of a real downside.
  16. That's actually a pretty big concession for the owners.

  18. The only certainty when ranking prospects is your list will be proven wrong eventually. There is always a lot of arguing about whether a player should be ranked higher than another. Really, the prospects in the 15-25 range are pretty much equal in terms of projected future value. I like how Fangraphs estimates a future value. On their latest list 13 players rated a 40 and six more were a 40+. That's 19 players who rate the same or everyone from 13-32. There are roughly 800 players rated 40 FV or higher in the minor leagues. Obviously they can't all contribute in the big leagues.
  19. Players wouldn't strike until at least July. The owners started the lockout and then refused to meet for negotiations for 2 months.
  20. It's a lockout. All it takes to begin the 2022 season is the owners lifting the lockout. The season would play under the current CBA until the new one is ratified.
  21. I have a count of 21 possibles for the next 20 spots. It will be interesting to see who didn't even rate Honorable Mention.
  22. In this case the employees ARE the product so they have a pretty good argument.
  23. It is more of a giant FU to the sports networks that agreed to pay MLB billions of dollars. ESPN and Bally can't sell ads to games that don't exist. Inevitably I think that is what will settle this. I saw today that the Rays are proposing a new stadium that only seats 27,000 fans. That's 15,000 fans fewer than Tropicana and more than 7000 fewer fans than the smallest MLB park (Cleveland). With the next wave of stadiums we're going to see what happens when there aren't any cheap seats.
  24. That's the whole problem. They aren't spending 90% of the new revenue on players. The MLB terms are "We know the pie grew 20% but we're going to only give you a 10% increase. Shut up and be happy that we gave you any of the increase at all."
  25. MLB’s revenue sharing problem, and how to solve it - Bless You Boys In 2018 teams received $209M before accounting for local revenue. TV revenues have increased since then due to multi-billion dollar deals with ESPN and TBS.
