  1. Polanco would be a better choice than Kepler. Julien is on the 40 man roster. We'll see if he forces his way onto the 26 man roster.
  2. The reason for those rules is so athletic trainers aren't selling information to bookies.
  3. I'm interested in astronauts but you don't see me posting articles about astronauts on TwinsDaily. There are plenty of existing places to talk about the NFL. This is a baseball website.
  4. There's another angle here. Top draft pick bonuses keep independent leagues from starting. Remember the USFL?
  5. The only people who need clear updates on sports injuries are the players, management and people gambling on the games. There are no issues with the first two interested parties and I don't know why the team should care about the third party.
  6. First, all players get paid on perceived value. Edwin Diaz just injured himself and is out for the season. Is that "fair"? It matters a lot if the top players say to hell with it, play independent ball for a year and sign big free agent contracts with the Yankees and Dodgers when their draft rights expire. It matters if players drafted by the Pirates (knowing their pay is the same no matter when they get drafted) decide to go back to school for a year and re-enter the draft hoping some other organization drafts them instead. It makes the draft pointless. That would kill the main way small market teams acquire talent.
  7. The big bonuses for top draft picks are because those players are perceived to be worth much more than the bonus. Why take money away from the players perceived to be the most talented and give it to less talented players? In order for the union to work you need to take care of the star players as well as the scrubs. Top talent has choices. Some will play a different sport. Some will go to college and get paid through NIL endorsements. Some may go overseas. Some will play independently until their draft rights expire and sign a free agent deal. Some will choose to play another year of college instead of taking the bonus.
  8. What does this have to do with baseball?
  9. This is absolutely a good thing but it looks like it was paid for by cutting 450 spots for minor league players (15 per team). MLB does seem to want to shrink the minor leagues further, though I'm optimistic MLB expansion will bring baseball back to many communities.
  10. One reason they have not been developing homegrown pitchers is they are far below average at signing international free agent pitchers.
  11. I expect them to give a qualifying offer to two of those pitchers, perhaps all three. One of them might accept it.
  12. Winder and Henriquez are injured. Megill and Dobnak (and Sanchez) have been terrible. Coulombe and Hoffman are nothing special but they're not injured or terrible.
  13. They could use many of those guys. They wouldn't win games but they could use them.
  14. I have been impressed by Alcala so far. He looks healthy and effective.
  15. They're not going to bring up Ober, Varland or SWR to be a 1 inning reliever. It's a bad idea and they've said they won't do it. They need all three stretched out as starters or they're just trading their lack of depth in the bullpen for lack of depth in the rotation. Winder is (predictably) injured.
  16. Coulombe was one of the guys they brought in this offseason to compete for a spot. Hoffman was another. None of them apparently turned out to be anything special. It sucks to lose Coulombe because the options in AAA are even worse. The front office has been obsessed with acquiring depth everywhere except the bullpen.
  17. I'm not frustrated that Coulombe is gone. I'm frustrated that they somehow couldn't find someone better than Cole Sands to make the roster.
  18. Willi Castro has been better than I expected. He might have a little upside he hasn't shown before.
  19. You think last year's bullpen was good? Cole Sands might develop into a good reliever but there's no reason to put him on the big league roster on scholarship.
  20. I read the article. That is definitely a list of names. They will need to pay attention to the waiver wire.
  21. I'm not seeing a lot of good bullpen arms in the minors. If Cole Sands is actually making this bullpen the depth is very thin.
  22. This is where revenue sharing is broken. The way to sure profit in MLB is to field a minimum salary roster. No need to draw any fans at all to the ballpark.
  23. Time for a set of injury gods bobbleheads.
  24. But you don't intentionally turn a 90 win team into an 83 win team in order to improve your wins-per-dollar. The Twins have a budget but they should still be looking to maximize wins based on their budget, not trying to save $20M if it means giving up a chance at a pennant.
