  1. Parker, great article. In your Kepler analysis from last year (a follow up on that would be awesome) we discussed wrists/ hands vs. shoulder and barrel turn. It seems that guys like Mauer and rosie could drop down for lower pitches while also getting on top of high fastballs because of a very quick barrel turn. Kepler was very gettable up on the zone. Has he improved? I don't know if barrel turn is a skill that can be taught with a total retooling. To me, simple fixes first. 1) What's your feeling on axe handled bats? 2) His swing plane is much less extreme going to right center. Maybe focus on that approach.
  2. 15 RBI, 9 HR. I know RBI are less significant anymore, but that does seem to support the notion that k's are indeed different than other outs.
  3. unbelievable turn. that was fun to watch in an otherwise frustrating game.
  4. Gotcha. He accepted the assignment then given outright release? Presumably they must be rostered or outrighted once they accept assignment?
  5. Did Allen refuse a AAA assignment and forego his contract to become a free agent? how does that work?
  6. Doggone, if he could stick to driving the ball to right, I think he'd be just fine. smooths out the extreme uppercut.
  7. Watching the Indians game over lunch. Saw a guy steal 3rd. Looked like Danny Santana. It was. He doubled, stole, and scored. Looked up his line. BA .308 OB.344 SLG.509 OPS.853 He wants in on the Dozier/Schoop race.
  8. I mean I wasn't the one saying he's "only 29". But when you debut young as a phenom arm, sustain a high level of regular season and post season success, there's just not a ton of comps... Bumgarner's showing signs of wear, perhaps. That's what reminds me of Zito. (team probably brings it to mind as well). Lincecum comes to mind for the same reasons. The drop off can come at 29 was my point. That said, I think your underlying point is that the evidence isn't suggesting a precipitous fall or an otherwise aging pitcher. And I would agree.
  9. Debuted at 19 though. Compare with Barry Zito. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/z/zitoba01.shtml
  10. Fun work day today... not tired at all.
  11. Honestly, Cora shouldn't be allowed to manage tomorrow. His tirade was embarrassing. It's 1 thing to stick up for your team during a game, it's another to be a pr sport when you lose. Those umps were ot there forever. Well played and memorable game for both sides. lots of drama. I'm just glad no children were awake to witness that lack of class and disrespect for the game.
  12. Danny Gladden called for the front office to call up Jhoan Duran from A plus fort meyer's tonight after he k'd 11 and hit 100 on the gun.
  13. I feel like Blaine parker is all the FRE with none of the entertainment value.
  14. Is Fernando rodney available for league min?
  15. the downside of most of baseball intentionally tanking is that there are a few really really talented baseball teams to beat.
  16. at least schoop's run wouldn't have mattered anyway.
  17. In all seriousness, it would be nice for Parker to refind his stuff/ horse shoe and be good going forward. But... that.
  18. I don't think either team needs him. But if the Twins took the initiative top add him for a 19yo pitcher and cash, I'd have been thrilled. They also kept him off an opponent's roster. They also suggested that if we really want Will Smith or Zack Wheeler we're going to have bring it.
  19. Arguably, Encarnacion would be a bigger upgrade for us than the Yankees. I wouldn't be surprised if the Yankees saw him play the Twins this year and picked him up based on that.
  20. Encarnacion to the Bronx for their 27th prospect, a 19yo pitcher plus salary relief. I wonder if this will be the first domino to fall and set the tone for expected deals. It's clear Seattle valued youth, upside, 40 man flex, and salary relief over maximizing prospect return and nearness to the majors. IMO, the twins have done a poor job in recent years in managing the back of the 40 man. Often trading for guys that must be added and shedding very few while losing guys we would have hoped to protect. In the future I'd like to see us advance guys faster, evaluate sooner, trade guys earlier and release gus at all. We can continue to dumpster dive if the player available is an actual upgrade, not just a "he should be on someone's 40" pick up. Better internal management should make those additions easier.
