Article: Miguel Sano And Negativity Bias
Jham replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
"Sano possesses hall of fame talent, and he works at the game. He has improved dramatically at third base and he takes intelligent at bats." Jim Souhan. Who is implying he's lazy or doesn't care? Who's bias is showing through in your interpretation... -
Article: Miguel Sano And Negativity Bias
Jham replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think some confuse concern with criticism. You can be concerned about Sano's in-season weight gain and k-rate without being a hater. Truth is, he's a top 10 mlb power hitter already. He may or may not be at peak potential. Those who want a Stanton, Trout, Pujols or Miggy and think that Sano has that in him shouldn't be shamed for their belief and desire to see him continue to improve to hall of fame levels. Would Sano rather we be appreciative of his all-star caliber season or believe he has an MVP in him that we want him to try to reach? -

How many double plays? Feels like a lot. It was almost awkward watching everyone hit but him yesterday. -

I think Mauer is averaging more than 1 out per plate appearance since returning from injury. Not a huge exaggeration. -

I'd have liked to see Polanco take third. Obvious good read on the pitcher, catcher sailed high and away... -
Article: The Funk And The Fix For Jorge Polanco
Jham replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Which raises the question, why combine the stats in the first place? They don't habe equal impact on offense or predicted runs... which raises another question, what does any of this have to do with Polanco's funk? I skipped to the end of the thread. Polanco needs to keep swinging hard. He got tentative for a little while. -
Article: The Funk And The Fix For Jorge Polanco
Jham replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I was a big believer in Polanco a couple years ago because I thought he'd develop some power. He seems to have lost all aggression. Stopped trying to drive the ball. Seems to happen to a lot of our young hitters... -

MLB ticker just showed that the twins would have had another year of control on Kintzler if we had waited 1 more week to call him up. Ouch.

People are putting him in the same class as Buxton and Sano. His rep around the league still fits that for now. GMs make snap trades at the deadline they wouldn't make in the off-season. Sonny Gray was on the list. If you can't get that sort of value, he shouldn't be traded. But then realize, your analysis of Kepler seems to be higher than reasonable respective to the market.

Because he should fetch a great return compared to other options. Kepler changed his swing and hitting profile to gain more power. There is a risk that the added HRs came at a significant price. You can't call a dead pull hitter who can't hit lefties an all around hitter. He's also not hitting for much average or power right now. Is he Jacque Jones or Justin Morneau?

I dunno. This is sort of talk that makes me consider trading Kepler. What is your opinion based on? Rosario has a higher BA, OB, Slg. And is probably a better defender. They rose at similar rates and similar time frames. They each were perennially ranked on team prospect lists, but the 5 seasons the 2 overlapped, Rosario was ranked higher every year. They both peaked at no. 3. Granted Kepler rated highest most recently. I may be the only one who takes Rosario over Kepler. You are indicating a disparity in valuation vs production. Taking advantage of disparity in value is how you win trades. Eddie is considered by some to be a 4th outfielder. When do we begin to question whether Kepler is a platoon guy himself? Once his trade value diminishes? Eddie once out-homered Sano for a season. Yet his upside is below Kepler? Where's the floor for a prospect who can't hit lefties? In my opinion, upside is closer than people think. But the 2 are viewed like there's a huge chasm in talent. I'd like to take advantage of that if I can. BTW, I'm only trading him for controlled pitching with ace potential.

I'd have traded Kintzler weeks ago. That said, if the return prospect has less of a chance to impact the club than the twins have of climbing back into the race, then keep him and try to sign him. I'd try to sell on guys I believe are overvalued by this market. I wonder if Kepler's struggles against lefties have already hurt his stock. Is he still blue chip? Jack Morris said he'd take his swing over Bellinger's. Rosario is a hitting machine in spurts with a disparate home vs away split but ability to hit lefties. Have enough teams noticed his remarkable improvement in plate discipline? Many still see him as a 4th outfielder. I think I'd rather have Eddie, and I think you can get more for Kepler. This may be more of an off-season move, but I think the teams willing to trade controlled-pitching may be more motivated now.

I hope Santana stays with three young Latin arms projected to be in the rotation next season.

I don't disagree for the most part. I'd have moved him to AAA a month ago. My post was specifically rebuttal to posts I've seen assuming to already know what we have. I hope the FO knows, but then again, they have him in AA.

51 of 98 for strikes against minor leaguers, and posters are claiming Gonsalves is already better than Gibby, Hector, Colon, and Mejia. You won't make it through 3 big league innings doing that.

Article: A (Twins) Territory Divided
Jham replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Really? They're 64 and 32. .66 win %. That's 111 wins. They're very good. But that's a tough pace to maintain for 162 and still have anything left for the playoffs. Twins have a decently talented club. Young and very capable of catching fire for several weeks. -

Twins have left the second most runners on base and 3rd most in scoring position. Run differential should tighten up. -
Article: A (Twins) Territory Divided
Jham replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You act like this team can't improve between now and October, but base your argument for selling on the fact that this young team can only get better... This team can improve. Mejia is a rookie, Berrios 2nd year, Gibson showing signs of life. Santiago capable of getting hot. We have a few arms in waiting. Dozier hasn't gotten hot yet. How many more years do you expect Sano to be passable at 3rd? How many years is Buxton elite in center? Think we'll luck into another all star closer? I'm also pretty sure the stros can't keep up their level of play. -
I dunno. It's complicated. There may also be no solution. A bunch of basketball teams are pulling out all the stops to compete with Golden State, but it may just not be possible for most. There may be nothing the Twins can do to fix their rotation enough to compete for a WS without giving up their current roster. I think this year's draft helped. IF we traded Santana, we would free up money to sign the next Ervin Santana. We will also likely dump one of Gibson or Santiago or maybe both. I also think a trade for Santana probably involves taking Hughes and a portion of his salary. The return would also (hopefully) provide more trade flexibility. We COULD have drafted college pitchers. Legit question, what does Royce Lewis fetch in trade? I'm guessing with his initial success, we may well be able to get a proven MLB ready starter. Do we need Gordon, Javier, Polacios, Lewis, and Vielma was recently compared to a young Omar Vizquel? He may be underrated while others may be overrated. Would we rather have Rooker or Kiriloff? What could Rooker fetch looking like he could climb rapidly? In my mind, we're only trading Santana if we've identified a few gettable key targets in FA AND we also plan on trading for another starter, now or once the season ends.
-
Sure. We can just go with plan b of waiting until we develop an ace and hoping that we happen to also have a Sano and Buxton and Kepler hitting their primes along with enough other arms and pen pieces to be in contention at whatever future date that ace appears... Or plan c, we trade away talent for future talent who will be able to contribute about the time we're forced to Joe Mauer, Johan Santana, or Torii Hunter our core (over pay, trade, or let walk) which is fine because there's always 2032. This window is finite. I'm not willing to waste 2 years of Sano and Buxton. Otherwise trade them both and commit to a true rebuild centered around elite pitching prospects.
-
I'm always for adding talent. Of the internal candidates, do we expect any of them to be all star relievers? That's what we'd trading for. If Neshek is cheap, he may be willing to sign an extension for cheap to finish his career here. Preferably I'd like a longer look at Rosario, Buesenitz, and Hildenberger before trading for help. We're doing that a bit. So far the results are fairly uninspiring which makes me wonder about Melo, Curtis, Reed, etc. About their potential impact vs rearranging the prospect deck chairs. Seems like we're on that path. I assume we'll look to help the pen here after the break. I'd also maybe shop Kintzler and just see what he could get.

Article: Making Zack Granite Fit
Jham replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Granite isn't so young or well regarded that he couldn't be a 4th outfielder. But he's also not so good you rearrange your line-up let alone roster for. In my opinion anyway. I doubt he belongs more than Adrianza and Vargas. And he's not in the same level as our current 4 outfielders. He can wait, or we can trade him if another team thinks he's legit. Who fetches more, Grossman or granite? Of course, I've been saying that Kepler is one of a couple guys on the team capable of returning an ace. That window could be shutting already as well... But if it meant getting an ace, ruling with granite is a risk I'd take. I find it unlikely that he's better than what we have. -
Article: How Fast Is Byron Buxton?
Jham replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Regardless, he's fast at baseball. Now go back to the leg kick so we can see that speed rounding first instead of back to the dugout.
