  1. Thank God Gardy isn't trotting Gomes out! Holy crap that guy is a terrible catcher
  2. You'd take Sam Fuld and Aaron Hicks over a guy who can make catches like that AND bat 296?
  3. He stretched a double and over slid the bag. He might have been out at 2 without the over slide.
  4. Big ups by Morgan to take away a hit from Pinto. Did you know Morgan batting .296 and playing centerfield has been in AAA for Cleveland. Wouldn't it have been nice to have signed Nyjer Morgan in the off season?
  5. Even for the betterment of the Twins Daily Community?
  6. Gardy couldn't get creative and bat Escobar 2?
  7. I disagree, Kubel is a better outfielder and has thus far been a better hitter than Doumit, however I do agree that this team from the outset had been too weak fielding in the OF. At the beginning of the season, Parmelee hadn't made the case to bring him up, now he should be up. Partially he has made the case that he has very little left to learn at AAA, partially out of necessity.
  8. He has far more upside than Willingham, Kubel, or Fuld and unlike those three, he's still under contract next year. To say he has no future so get rid of him, means to release Willingham, Fuld, and Kubel. Where does the 2014 logjam go? Oh wait, there's currently two active OFs. It doesn't exist. Rosario, Buxton, Kepler, Vargas, Harrison, and Walker are all prospects and maybe Vargas you call up this year in a pinch or September, but the rest are a ways off. Parmelee stops none of them. What do you lose? And Hicks? He's still young, but he has by no means shown anything more than 4th outfielder to me. He loses balls against blue skies and hasn't hit a darn thing. There's still time for him, but again I ask. What logjam? What future? if all CP can be is a nice bench piece for a contender, let's see what he can do now for this team, and if he'll be a nice bench piece for the Twins in 2016. If he doesn't work out, cut bait, no loss.
  9. This is the second opt out date. He went to free agency in March/early April, and was resigned by the Twins, not certain there is a master scheme here...
  10. I hope you are right
  11. Calling Hermann a catcher (which I do too) is kinda like calling Escobar a catcher. Hermann is more of a super-futility player who also can't field, in a addition to can't hit. He might be a good catcher, but I wouldn't know since he never catches. Don't forget the 3rd scenario where Zuke catches, Pinto DHs, Herman is in OF, and Zuke gets injured, so Gardy makes a double shift (see this tangent from the game thread the other night is now meaningful) to move Hermann from the outfield to Catcher, but because of the short bench, there's no one left to play the outfield but Florimon or a pitcher.
  12. Agreed, and Burton will pass through waivers
  13. Or 2/3 could be out for the rest of the season, but crippled by indecision, the Twins continue for weeks with Mauer active but unable to play, 13 pitchers, 3 catchers, 1 outfielder, 1 DH, 3 SS, 1 1b, 1 3b, 1 2b, because Arcia, Hicks, and Willingham might be ready to play at some point in the future when Hicks has a brain injury that has wreaked havoc on this team in the recent past, and Willingham is 100 years old with a broken wrist and zero fielding skills left.
  14. Don't forget about the 13 pitchers on the 25 man roster.
  15. Bernardino opined the Twins may 60 day Willingham to make room for Guerrier. As if the a Twins needed more relief pitching, and didn't need a bench. The Twins wouldn't actually do it, would they? If they felt the need to hold on to him, they'd DFA Burton, right? Please...
  16. The Panther is a much better hockey guy than baseball.
  17. 1) I love Provus' work. 2) Gladden is an OK color guy, but his play by play stinks. 3) Bert is fun, but over the course of a season, the repetitive nature of the schtick gets grating and I'm too old for the Bert Blyleven drinking game. 4) I am waiting for Dick to say "Yeah, yeah, Bert we know, at the major league level" now all you folks watching us at the bar have to take a shot. 5) I too miss Herb Carneal. 6) Morris is a refreshing sub for Bert, but not exactly ice cold lemon aid refreshing, more like cool glass of water refreshing Number 1 said at first " I love Provus" but I've never met the guy. I might, but probably not as much as my wife and daughter, but you never know.
  18. Necessity is the mother of invention. However, Nick wrote an excellent article about one Mr. Chris Parmelee that may be an alternative to Hermann Munster.
  19. Willingham will be out a while, who knows with Hicks, who knows with Mauer... Hermann has looked lost... Parmelee has proven his ability to hit in AAA, and is a good fielding right fielder and first basemen. Either DFA Burton or put Mauer on the DL and bring up Parms. The outfield needs him desperately right now, and Colabello looks like he needs an off day or extra fielding drills, or something... When Arcia comes back, leave Kubel and Parmelee in the corners and DH Arcia. Hermann has no business being active, except the bench is so darn thin right now.
  20. Deduno wasn't everything I wanted him to be in his first start, but he was ok.
