  1. if it's 3-4 years to get back to respectability, how long does it take to undo an entire minor league system? Smith was only GM for 5 years. And for what it's worth, we're in year 4 and year 5 doesn't look like a playoff contender either, without some pretty big offseason moves.
  2. if the Twins do anything, I'd like to see them spend really big on one elite pitcher. If they do two things it would be to sign a good hitting and fielding LF. It appears that the supplementary pieces are there. At least as good as you can gamble on in free agency. This team isn't mature enough to start trading prospects.
  3. so would I, suddenly signing player to a 48 mil contract doesn't mean TR will jump it up to 100.
  4. good points, I think there is room to improve on both fronts. While I expect Nolasco to be a better pitcher in 2015, Milone is still being trotted out there every 5 games or so. He's fine and all, but can be improved upon via FA or trade. There's no guarantee that both or either Meyer and May become what we all want them to be. Not that I think the Twins should cut bait, but wouldn't it be better if the number 5 guy in the rotation turn out to be the ace or a really good staff, than the number 1 guy in the rotation turn out to be a dud? I agree with your assessment of LF being a high priority, but a stop gap CF isn't exactly apparent either. I'd like it to be Hicks for 2015, but so far not so reliabl
  5. mean, median, mode are all specific terms for average. If all you are striving for is the median, then that's as high as you will achieve.
  6. Brandon, I disagree plus hitters: Santana - nope, but could be maybe with some luck could be Plouffe - nope Escobar - nope, we have seen his pinnacle it's fine not plus Dozier - yup I agree Suzuki - nope Vargas - maybe, not now, but time will tell hitters who should be plus next year: Mauer - yup Arcia - wishful, but I would like to see it too. Rotation: Hughes #3 Gibson #4 Nolasco #5 Millone solid swing-man Meyer. -- if-- he gets up here could be a very good pitcher May - could be a decent middle rotation guy, or a good bull pen piece. Maybe more, time will tell. I'm still looking 1 and 2 rotation spot, a cleanup hitter, a centerfielder and a left fielder. I'm not willing to wait for Buxton, Sano, Berrios, Stewart, and Rosario. Too many gambles and not enough insurance for all of them to work out in the right timeline.
  7. All true, but Gardy had the nickname for Romero, and we all know that prospects are just prospects until they prove themselves in the majors. What I mean is, Plouffe is a proven adequate third baseman. Let him keep the seat warm until someone forces the issue. I think Gardy likes Romero, and Sano is currently farther away from the majors. I hope Plouffe is the third baseman until Sano takes over, and Sano is the greatest thing to ever happen to the Twins. I just have my doubts.
  8. I forgot to answer the question, it's not what you wouldn't do, it's what you would do. I'd sign Melky. TR would have to give him more years than he'd like, but there will be plenty of wiggle room contract wise over the next several years to make it work.
  9. dont make 2 holes out of one. Plouffe should stay at third base. I think a combination of Little Debbie and I just Plouffed are far more likely than Sano to be the third baseman for the Twins 2015 through 2017. I had doubts about Sano's range, now after surgery I have doubts about range and throwing ability. Sano is still a prospect, and a year or two removed from the bigs. Little Debbie Romero as well, but he has fewer defensive issues. Sano could be the next greatest third baseman to have ever played the game, or not. It's too early to tell.
  10. It was a great time! Thanks to all of you who made it a fantastic event.
  11. if you have enough manliness to require seating for 7, I don't think it's unmanly
  12. It's nice to be up 5-0 without an out being made by my favorite home team
  13. I know it's his reputation, and I've seen him play on tv several times, but every time Vargas steps into the batters box I say "oofda that's a big guy!"
  14. being a first time father, ( my daughter is 6 months old) I can say with authority, your couple friends, no matter how prepared they think they are, they are entirely unprepared... Except for the minivan. Baby's are small, but carry a ton of luggage
  15. I would be pleased to trade any of those players for young prospects, however I don't think any of them have value to other teams either, which is why I want them to go.
  16. I agree with you, but I don't have a problem with the Twins double dipping. I do however have higher expectations of the Twins than this. Yes this site does have sponsored content and banner ads, but at least the sponsored content ties in to what Twins Daily is. When Dairy Queen hat night occurs, it's absolutely double dipping, but at least baseball caps are a part of baseball, even if DQ isn't exactly Cracker Jack. Ambulance chasers in a Tweet is just plain lazy
  17. Boof Bonser changed his name. Never say never.
  18. and now I'm picturing RB in the national lampoons family truckster with the wood panel stickers on the side, driving in really tight circles on the ferry so he can say he once drove across Lake Michigan.
  19. yeah, not a popular pasta in the us
  20. mmm I love octopus. We had a really good lettuce and orzo salad with edamame, carrots and sautéed sweet corn for dinner, and a New Belgium brewing Rampant IPA to drink
