  1. I don't think Gardy has been a bad manager over the length of his tenure, but the team seems to be at a tipping point right now where there is an opportunity for a fresh voice in the clubhouse to bring a new team together. Santana, Vargas, Pinto, Arcia, Hicks and in time Buxton, Sano, Polanco, Meyer, Berrios - it would be great for this group to grow together without a coaching staff burdened with 4+ years of 90+ losses. That's why I'd like to see Mientkiewicz come in and grow with them, or failing that someone like Redmond. The club keeps the "Minnesota nice" feeling of having some continuity with a former player at the helm (not so important for me, but maybe for Ownership or the FO), but they also get a fresh start in the dugout. Open to suggestions for a new pitching coach, but I really think Anderson is past his use by date with this group of players.
  2. This lineup could be fun to watch through September: Santana SS Dozier 2B Mauer 1B Vargas DH Pinto C Arcia RF Plouffe 3B Hicks CF Schafer LF Substitute Sano for Plouffe and Buxton for Schafer (Hicks sliding over to LF) and next September could be even funner.
  3. I presume Nolasco will start on Friday and this gives May some innings to get on schedule to take Pino's next start on Monday
  4. Schafer has some wheels. Swiped a bag in every game he's reached base since coming over.
  5. I'd like to see a younger voice in the clubhouse. I would be fine with Dougie Baseball or Redmond
  6. Another good night for Berrios: 7IP 3H 1ER 4K 1BB
  7. In more cheerful news, the Berrios wagon train rolls on. 7IP 3H 1ER
  8. I'd like to see Polanco get another taste in September, maybe Rosario if he hits for the next 2 months. I also expect Hicks to remain in the doghouse in September.
  9. What are the chances of getting his brother to wear a "Bull Dozier" t-shirt while pitching to him?
  10. Haven't heard. My guess would be optioning Thielbar
  11. Outstanding night again for Berrios: 7 IP 1H 0 ER 9K 2BB Kid is dealing at the moment
  12. And he's done all that with a BABIP 80-90 pts lower than Carpenter and Cano
  13. I thought maybe Knoblauch had come close, but now I see he never hit more than 13 HR (in a Twins uniform at least)
  14. After today's game Dozier has 14 HR and 14 SB. Can he keep up the pace and finish out a 30-30 season? And if so, will he be the only one in MLB this year? Gomez (12 HR, 11 SB) and Blackmon (11 HR, 12 SB) look like the only other candidates - no-one else in the AL is close. Who was the last Twins player to put up that power/speed combination?
  15. I feel like I'm flogging the Joe Mauer dead horse a bit here, but seriously, is there a health issue that needs some DL time to sort out? Back? Concussion hangover? Mauer's last 100 PA: 19-94, 6/18 BB/K for a .202/.250/.277 slash line That's beyond unlucky to me.
  16. Joe Mauer vs LHP: 76 PA .211/.282/.211 30% K rate. Brutal.
  17. I can see 6-8 and the rubber band still firmly in place at 29-29 by the end of this stretch.
  18. Of 50 Major Leaguers to have played at least 40 full innings at 1B so far this season: Miguel Cabrera ranks 2nd in BRef DWAR with 0.3 Joe Mauer ranks 45th at -0.5 Chris Colabello is 50th at -1.1
  19. Reason for optimism? Through a quarter of the season the Twins are within a game of the wild card. Will be interesting to see how long they can meet the front office criterion of "playing meaningful games in [month]"
  20. Bullpen use for the past 7 days: Duensing 4.2 IP 77 pitches Fien 3.2 IP 53 pitches Perkins 3.0 IP 44 pitches Tonkin 1.0 IP 30 pitches (not used since 1 May) Swarzak 1.2 IP 37 pitches (only 7 pitches since 1 May) Burton 3.1 IP 45 pitches Thielbar 1.2 IP 29 pitches Why on earth does this group need an extra arm in Guerrier? Presumably Gardy will be doing some managin' over the enxt few days "to get them some work in". What a joke.
  21. Good job Gardy has those 13 pitchers to hang out with when his late game bench in a winnable game consists of Herrmann and a gimpy Mauer. This is incompetence bordering on negligence.
  22. Sure would be nice to have a bench to go to in these close late games
  23. Arcia not in the Rochester line up tonight
  24. It's utterly inexcusable that Herrmann has started 4 of the past 6 games while Parmelee rakes in AAA, particularly as he can actually catch the ball in RF unlike Herrmann and Colabello. Accept the crushing loss of Eric Fryer or Kenny Wilson from the 40 man and get him up. The Twins can worry about what to do with him when/if Willingham proves he is fit. They should also bring back Arcia for one of the 13 pitchers at the same time (either DFA Burton or option one of Tonkin or Darnell, as harsh as it would be on those guys). He has put up a .333/.379/.444 line through 8 rehab games now - that's enough.
  25. World's shortest prospect adoption! Nick's article says it all really. http://www.twinsdaily.com/content.php/2825-Twins-Acquire-Infielder-Eduardo-Nunez-From-Yankees Nunez adds some infield depth and appears a serviceable MLB infielder if Florimon can't get going. As such, he probably represents a reasonable return given Sulbaran's lack of physical projection and likely development arc.
