  1. That's exactly what I was thinking. Santana wasn't exactly a big guy either, but I couldn't remember how hard each guy throws. I'm hoping I'm not making an irresponsible comparison.
  2. To me, I think the idea of paying $50-$60 million just to talk to a prospect is a little crazy. Let me ask this question, who here would be willing to sign Byron Buxton to a 6 year $120+ million contract right now? It's not a perfect question, but Buxton is the #1 prospect in the game and neither have played in the majors.
  3. This made my day. That looks like so much fun.
  4. If he thought he could slide to avoid the tag instead of running into the catcher and still score, he would have. This guy isn't that type of player and he's not out to hurt someone. He plays hard and he did what he needed to do to score in a playoff game. Baseball doesn't need to take these plays out of the game. They don't happen very often, and you can't allow the catcher to just stand in front of the plate to prevent a runner from scoring.
  5. Charlie Manuel was fired by the Phillies and used to play for the Twins. Just throwing another name out there if Gardenhire were to go, but I'm not sure if he is the type of manager the Twins need.
  6. I just read today that the Yankees will be paying close to $30 million in luxury taxes for this season, which I think is the most ever. This could potentially make them not as high of bidders on these free agent guys.
  7. I don't understand people complaining about who got called up when I've seen several posts saying September call up production doesn't matter. Good for these guys and I hope they perform well.
  8. This is definitely an interesting concept to me. How does this rotation work if you have someone like a Justin Verlander or Clayton Kershaw though? Would they still only be limited to 5 innings?
  9. I wouldn't mind signing Hughes and taking a chance on Big Time Timmy Jim and Johan. I would assume Lincecum working with our pitching staff would result in less walks. He would also be someone fans could get excited to see, even if he isn't what he used to be.
  10. Apparently the catcher was still in the hospital undergoing tests today. I don't have any problem with it. If the catcher is standing in front of the plate, you have to try to score somehow. Knowing this guy, he would most likely say it was worth it.
  11. Minor League Catcher Brandon Douglas Gets Drilled At Home Plate By Runner - YouTube The runner went to the same high school as me. He always had the biggest hits on the football field. Oh and Brandon Douglas is the baserunner, not the catcher.
  12. I'm not going to root for the Twins to lose, but I won't care if they do lose based on the circumstances. You play to win the game so I always want the Twins to win.
  13. How long could the playoffs potentially last for Rochester? I'm just interested in how the management views Rochester being in the playoffs since that is time some of the players could potentially be seeing with the Twins.
  14. Not a fan of Pierzynski at all. It would be hard to cheer for him but I could get over it. I can definitely see why people want to move Mauer to first. He is our best hitter and you want him in the lineup as often as possible and as healthy as possible. If Pinto produces the rest of the season, I think having Pinto/Herrmann at catcher and Mauer at first wouldn't be a bad idea.
  15. You are a Twins fan. That's why you should watch the games.
  16. Maybe he is giving Justin a chance to be in the playoffs before possibly resigning him next year and the Pirates are paying most of the rest of his salary?
  17. Really hoping more is added to this deal
  18. After looking this guy up, I really hope this is a joke or I looked up the wrong guy.
  19. Guys, it was Jamey Carroll. Great guy and like watching him play, but he was a 38 year old backup utility player on a bad roster.
  20. Ellsbury would instantly make this team better, and there would definitely be room for him on the roster. What other outfielders do we have that could help us next year beyond Willingham, Arcia, and Hicks? Buxton could possibly be up next year. Even with Buxton, we could have Hicks, Ellsbury, and Buxton in the outfield with Arcia at DH. The Twins need pitching more than anything right now, but it's not like signing Ellsbury would be a terrible thing.
  21. I would love to have Ellsbury, but I'm doubtful he will come to the Twins. Why come to the Twins when we might not be good until 2015 when he could go to a team that will be good next year? Unless of course we make some moves in the offseason and some of our prospects are ready earlier than expected. On mlbtraderumors.com they are saying it is unlikely right now Willingham will be traded. I hope this changes between now and next season. I would like to see his spot/money given to a player or pitcher who can help us beyond next year, which Willingham most likely can't.
  22. I'd take just about anything we can get out of Willingham and Doumit. Those two guys have been taking up spots that need to be filled by other guys and won't be on the team after next year.
  23. Mauer has more value as a catcher because he is a good defensive player and even better hitter. I would rather see him at catcher, but he would still be one of the best first baseman in the league.
  24. I think Thielbar not covering home is a bad example. That's not Gardenhire's fault. Pitchers should be doing that since middle school.
  25. My post doesn't mention his contract.
