    Like the other commenters I am shocked that Kiriloff is on the roster. I would have had Blankenhorn for 3B. Although Alex in place of Sano would not bother me. Adrianza and Gonzalvez do need pinch hitting so Kiriloff is good for that too. Donaldson was missing 28 games this season so we are used to being without him and even when he was with us, he was poor as much as he was great. Avila is a puzzle to me too. Why. And both Odorizzi and Dobnak instead of Alcala does not seem right. Alcala is able to go multiple innings. So now we can tune in and learn if our concerns have any validity. Go Maeda!

    Why not the entire last week to get used to being on the team. This is really strange. I have wanted him all year. Rooker and Jeffers showed that good young players can give your team energy. I would have Blankenhorn on the roster too.

    I worry most about Buxton - we have seen concussions take away our best players before and the impact is so long that is more than just playoffs that could be affected. I am so glad Arraez is back. My favorite Twin - old school like me - get on and good things can happen. No more of the K is the same as any other out. Yes a K might be better than a DP (unless a run scores then it is a wash), but a K is not better than a ball in play where runners can advance, an error can be made, or bad judgment can help runners score or advance. The BP is not looking good - I keep reading about how Rogers last outing was promising, but he gave up a hit to score a run and then put another batter on base before succeeding. Final thought - the Astros are probably happy with this playoff situation too.

    The real take away for me is that Romo has been on a downward curve and does not seem to be ready for the playoffs. Which BP arms would you count on? Maybe the lesson is that BP games eventually take a toll.

    Wow did I miss Arraez and obviously the Twins did too. How nice to have a player get hits instead of Ks.

    How about a place on the bench? I am so tired of the big K. He has too much talent to do the strikeout or HR nonsense. A HR is one run. Only one run. It can when a game, but ask Bert Blyleven - a solo HR is not a game winner in most occasions.

    That line up really looks weak. I would have kept Wade another day and waited on Smeltzer. I am tired of seeing Adrianza and Gonzalez in the lineup together this season.

    Take Donaldson out and it is an accurate reading. But not very encouraging.

    If we are depending on these three we are doomed. I am depending on Cruz having his bat wake up (or has age caught up), Eddie Rosario rising to the occasion, and Maeda showing us how to pitch in a big game.

    Sano comping with Reynolds and Deer is not exactly the star quality we thought we would have. Let's balance that meaningless stat - exit velocity - with his helplessness. Factor in an exit velocity of zero for each whiff and what does he look like. Until they give you extra runs for distance hit the old tape measure distances mean nothing. Maybe Sano should know it is not batting practice but a real game. I just heard the old/new cliché that a K is better than a DP. Well, Duh! But is it better than advancing the runners? Is it better than getting on with an error? Miguel is already number 8 (tied with Dozier) on the Twins all time K list. Morneau is number 7 on the list with 700 more games. In fact when I look at games played I have to go down to number Bobby Darwin - number 35 on the list - to find a player in the strikeout category who has played less that Sano. To say I am not a fan is an understatement. And, by the way he has the second most errors among 1B behind only Abreu of the WS.

    My biggest concerns from tonight are: Berrios in the playoffs. Is it my imagination, but it seems like the bigger the game the more tight and ineffective he becomes. And I am a fan of his. I hope he can rise up in the playoffs.Donaldson and especially Buxton. Is there a curse on Byron? A ball to the head is so frightening.MIA bats. Cruz was a shock. 3Ks - no contact. I believe he will get back, but he was not exactly burning up the league the last few weeks. Sano is not lost in both the field and at bat. 86 K 37 hits! Garver lost his position to Jeffers and Jeffers needs to be on the field to keep fresh. Garver has 33 K and 10 hits. Nice to have good utility guys but Gonzalez is hitting 207 and Adrianza is hitting 185. Total War for these four (Sano, Garver, Gonzalez, Adrianza) is -0.4. Use that is a minus not a dash. And Kepler is now up to .225 and a 750 OPS, not enough to carry the club. Rosario has been the life of the club after all the years of people telling me he is no good and its time to move on from him. Finally - I am waiting for a Homer Bailey explanation.

    The Yankees - do I need to explain? Do I have to list Judge, Stanton, Voit or remind people of the damage a former Twin - Mr Hicks has done to us. Or Gerrit Cole? I will quote MLB.com - "Astros starter Gerrit Cole dominated the Twins by striking out 11 batters and allowing one hit in seven masterful innings, and George Springer, Jake Marisnick and Alex Bregman blasted homers to send the Astros to an 11-0 win."

    What an amazing turn around in the standings. Thanks Cleveland, just don't face us with all your pitchers at the top of their game. The BP has been slipping. Too many BP games? Romo is one pitcher I definitely do not want to come in and face the Yankees. But Thielbar and Wisler have been living the dream and the bubbles might be in danger of bursting. I hope not. But I remember when Martin Perez (yes the starter for the BOSOX) came out of the gates and look phenomenal until he didn't and he was gone before the year ended.

    Let's keep it simple - it is not his head, it is his pitch. He just is not getting it done this year.

    It would be really controversial, but against the Yankee bats I would leave Rogers off.

    Talent has always been the real factor in the NY/MN series and this NY team would have a lot better record without the major injuries in the first half. Of all the AL teams they are the ones I least want to face. And yes, history matters. Don't tell me the players have not heard over and over about the streak.

    May has been inconsistent all year - tonight was another example. It is a worry when we will need him in the playoffs. Taylor Rogers does not have a terrible line, but he was terrible tonight and could have cost the game. He is still not dependable. Stashak is looking more and more like a go to guy. But why aren't we using Alcala now?

    HAHAHA - oh are we well positioned. We struggle with the Tigers, the Yankees win 12 - 1 against the Jays.

    This is a fun post because it challenges everyone to think outside their comfort zone. It is really challenging to know at what point that old father time is going to smack you down. I am 75 and committed to guiding more hiking trips in 2021, but after two back surgeries this year I expected everything to work and now I have an achilles tendon problem. You just never know - but I can guarantee I could not have hit a 100 mile fastball when I was 41 because I could not hit one when I was in my 20s or 30s.

    Not excited at all but we churn through lots of BP arms so it did not really matter to me. As it turned out, he has been great. I was also not excited by Jhoulys Chacin, Ryan O'Rourke, Cory Gearrin, Danny Coulombe, or Juan Minaya. RP come and go. I want more from starters and I really hope that we look to our minor leaguers and build the rotation from within next year as we start with Berrios, Maeda, and Pineda.

    I was not excited by Homer when we signed him, I am not excited by Homer now. If the Detroit Tigers are going to be the judge on his value as a starter we are living in a crazy world. (Oh yes - we are).

    I would swap Rogers/Romo/Clippard with Alcala, Stashak, and Wisler. They may be veterans, but my confidence in Rogers and Clippard has slipped. Remember we are facing the Yankees. Their HR hitters are hot and there are a lot of them. The vets give up too many bombs.
