    If I had the ability to run the offseason, I would make 4 acquisitions. Either FA signings or trades: 1. Acquire a top shelf, proven, shut down Closer. Mason Miller, Aroldis Chapman type of guy. Everyone else moves down an inning and, on paper, we have a pretty good BP. 2. Acquire a True Ace. We have the guys to fill out the rest of the rotation already. What we dont have is an Ace. We need a guy that can match up against anybody in game 1 of a playoff series. Taj, Ryan, Prielipp and hopefully Pablo plus an Ace make for a very nice rotation. 3. Trade Lewis and find a stud 1B. Elite bat and good defense. Just a monster to bat cleanup daily. Especially since the All Star break, we've needed this guy. We've had guys on base, but nobody was driving them in. 4. Trade Caratini. We need an actual starting C. Caratini is not him. Jeffers is an option if we can get him to stay, otherwise we'll need to make a trade for one. On paper, these 4 moves will elevate us to a competitive playoff team capable of catching fire in the playoffs

    No it wasnt. He blocked much more promising prospects all season long while playing crap defense and disappearing at the plate when we needed him most. It has been such a disappointing year having to watch his mediocre play most days. I sure hope he is gone before next season

    Absolutely not. One of the needs the team must address this off-season is acquiring a proven shut down closer. Mason Miller, Aroldis Chapman type reliability. Get that guy and everyone moves down an inning and this BP will be in pretty good shape, on paper.

    What a start from Prielipp. I am excited to see his development next season. Same with Jenkins. Adams making a save look easy.

    I would like to see the young guys play. Bring up Sabato to play 1B or get DH ABs. If for no other reason than to acknowledge his efforts and the record setting season he had. Unpopular opinion. Wallner also has had a record setting season in St Paul. Maybe give him the last few games at Target Field, too? Not sure he'll be in our system after this seaosn, though. Guess we'll see.

    It starts with trading/releasing/non-tendering Larnach, Lewis, and Caratini. None of them are the answer or worth a roster spot on this team. Period. ERod, Buxton, Jenkins, & Keaschall should be our OFers & DH. All 4 can rotate between the field and DH. Lee is at 3B. Culpepper is at SS. Clemens can fill the Super Utility role again or get a starting spot at 2B. IMO Clemens has earned a starting spot but he has been great as a Super Utility guy. He should be the starting 2B until Houston is ready to take over. Im looking to make 4 acquisitions. 1. We need a proven shut down Closer. 2. We need a legitimate Ace. Ryan isn't it. Pablo cant be counted on. Anything we get from Pablo will be a bonus. 3. We need a very good Catcher. That problem can be solved by somehow keeping Jeffers on the team. Otherwise finding a starter is a must. Caratini is not it. 4. A big bat, solid defensive 1B. The kind of bat that changes a line up. Slots in at cleanup daily. Spend the money and get this guy. If there is going to be a salary floor, we are nowhere near it and will need to spend money. Go ALL IN on these 4 spots and fill in the rest of the roster with what we have. We have a ton of great potential in our younger players. Mix in some veteran super stars and I believe we will have a contender.

    Caratini can not be the answer for us if we want to be a contender. Resigning Jeffers is actually a decent option. He can start until one of the prospects is ready. At that point, we would have the opportunity to trade him. I would be giving Jeffers the QO and trying to resign him. If that doesnt work, I'm checking the trade market for a starter.

    Larnach and Lewis need to be gone. I agree with the rest of the list, too. But Larnach and Lewis especially. We have Larnachs replacement already, ERod. Lewis and his bad attitude will be addition by subtraction.

    I do agree, it doesn't look good for a 23yo to be a DH. Im just trying to fit all 4 of those guys in the lineup daily. Buxton, while healthy, is the CFer. He's made it clear thats where he wants to play and IMO he deserves that. Out of ERod, Jenkins, and Keaschall, Erod and Jenkins are the better defenders and either one can slide into CF if (when) Buxton gets hurt. To combat Keaschall being relegated to just DH, in my original comment, I stated rotating him in the OF to give the others guys a day or 2 at DH a week. Essentially what im trying to say is those 4 guys alternate between the field and DH. Keeping all 4 in the lineup daily and hopefully keeping them a little more fresh throughout the season.

    Somebody needs to be the fall guy, I guess. But it seems more like an organizational problem. The minor league levels are filled with high ERAs and poor performance. Rarely, if ever, do we have a pitcher debut looking ready to be in the ML.

    Depending on how long the lockout lasts, we might eek out a "full" 2027 season of peak Ryan pitching. 😅

    Absolutely not. Buxton is still one of the fastest players in the league. Taking him and his still high end defense off the field is just plain dumb.

    I am absolutely not down on Keaschall. I meant more of using him as the full time DH and giving the corner guys a break in the OF. His defense has been a bit shaky but its more to make room for ERod and Jenkins in the corners and Buck in CF. Their defense is better than Keaschall. But I want all 4 of them in the lineup daily and I'm batting Keaschall 1st. Keaschall batting 1st is written in pen.

    Some of these guys just need to go. Lewis, Larnach, and others. Bell and Rogers contracts are up and the end of the season. ERod, Buxton, Jenkins next season makes for a pretty solid defensive outfield. Lee and Culpepper are in place at 3B and SS. Keaschall at DH/4th OFer. Clemens has earned a spot either as a starter or Super Utility. I like Jackson as a Backup Catcher, too. My opinion. We need BIG upgrades at 1B and C. Possibly 2B, as well. Pitching side is even more open. Gomez, Morris, Hoffman, Nance I would assume are all back. Outside of that, I see no guarantees. Im hopeful we will be signing atleast a legit Closer. Taj is the only starter im writing down in pen. I think Prielipp will be there, too. Ryan and Pablo are question marks for me. Will Ryan still be here? Will Pablo be healthy and effective to start the season? After them, it seems there would be a competition for the last spot(s). I still feel this team needs a true Ace if we want to compete. I am asking for 4 or 5 acquisitions this off-season. Trade or non tender guys like Royce and Larnach. I truly feel thats how close we are to potentially being a legitimate postseason team. We have a lot of really nice players. Now we need some offensive consistency, a shutdown closer and a slump busting Ace.

    The problem with these kinds of decisions is if you trade players like Ryan and Pablo, you still need to replace them. You're not going to replace their production for what you're paying them currently. Sure we'll get some prospects back. But with that formula, you just keep pushing the carrot down the road.

    All 4 players listed should not be here next season. I'll give Kriedler a break, but only because he is here for his defense at SS. Outside of Culpepper, he is the only player on this team that has any business playing SS. But the bat did go 🧊 . Which is exactly the player he has shown he is in the past. Unfortunately it was regression to the mean for him. My hope is that we have a SS backup next season with a better bat. The Caratini signing was bad when it happened and only looks worse now. Having him slotted in as our "starter" next season, to me, is unacceptable. He is not suited for that role. The position absolutely needs to be addressed this off-season. Lewis has been bad for years. A lot longer than he was good at this point. "Average" defense at 1B and a below average bat has no place on this team if we plan to actually compete. Larnach is another that needs to be gone from the team. It is absolutely brutal watching him try to run. His replacement is already on the team. Easy transition. I don't know whose idea it was for Buxton to come off the injured list, but it shouldn't have happened. He was never ready to come back. You cant replace a healthy Buxton, but you cant play him injured, either.

    Larnach and Royce should have been gone at the trade deadline. They are weighing this team down and holding us back in a big way. Larnach has been absolutely horrible in LF while being a little above average in a platoon position. When we have so many top prospects that play in the outfield waiting for a chance, Larnachs time needs to end. We could've been using this time to see ERod, instead we had to watch a guy running in slow motion in LF while failing at the plate. Royce has overstayed his welcome, IMO. Below average bat and a below average attitude. Hes been bad for a lot longer than he was good. Over is a different story and there isn't a clear path for him. Yes, his velocity has declined for a few years now. But his overall numbers this season show a guy thats been our 3rd best pitcher behind Taj and Ryan. I go back and forth on Ober. He plays hard. Appears to be a good teammate. The thing that pushes me towards trading him is that we are not near a playoff team with his as our 3rd best pitcher. We also have guys with more unproven "potential" than Ober offers ready for the rotation. But then none of them have realized that potential yet and here we are this year with Ober in our current top 3.

    Clemens has been great this season. From any perspective. He was a small DFA trade last year. Didn't have a history of success. Now, IMO, hes been team MVP this year. Leads the team in HRs. Apparently leads the AL in Triples. Plays good to great defense anywhere you put him. He has been a great teammate and role model for the younger players. He has 100% earned a spot on the team. Heck I'd go so far to say hes earned the chance to be a starter at 2B, but hes been incredibly valuable as a super utility and the team doesnt have anyone close that could replace him in that role.

    Buxton needs to shut it down and get that hip right. Even if we somehow get into the playoffs, we'll have done it with Jenkins in CF. Playing through it has not worked. Since the move to 3B, Lee has been much closer to the player I was hoping he'd be. The defense is so much better. The bat has shown up. A sub .300 OBP is not good. Not someone I'd be batting 2nd. This seems to be how Jenkins operates. He's a little slow to adjust, but once he figures it out, he goes on a tear. Either way, this is great experience and will give him some stuff to work on during the off-season. The defense looks good in CF. Larnach looks awful in the field. If Ross and Gonzalez are mostly riding the bench, why not get ERod up instead and put him in LF? It seems odd to me the team doesnt want to see him at Target Field before he's out of options.

    Houston, Kendle, and Diaw all seem ready to start next season at AAA. Maybe Lackey gets a taste of AA after the Kernels season ends?

    Kendle has been on fire for a couple months now. Seeing the stats laid out like this, Jenkins really forced the issue for his call up. What a month. He was doing well with the Twins until he hit that HR off a position player. May not be related, but thats when the struggles seem to have started

    To be fair, I'd imagine Jenkins would've been up much sooner, probably last season, had he not been injured so much. I dont see the Twins as a team that fast tracks a player. Theres a 1st time for everything, I guess. But it seems very unlikely Lackey will get the call next season.
