Prielipp looked good again. Same with Clemens. Outman with another hit? Defense is still bad. Is Lewis currently the worst position player on the team? I had really hoped he'd come around but he is swinging at pitches so far off the plate. Hopefully we can avoid the sweep tomorrow.

That obstruction call was bs. But the offense couldn't get it done anyways. All singles. Ryan looked good.

Compliment Shelton for leaving Ober in the game a couple days ago and now Zebby is having a great start and he gets pulled at only 83 pitches. 🤦♂️ Really nice start for Zebby. Love seeing it. Outman hits? Who knew? Batting average higher than Royce now. Wonder how much longer Lewis has before he's teammates with Wallner again? Maybe a little Nitpicking, but I'd prefer Martin in left.

As good as Ober was yesterday, Sim was the opposite tonight. He seems to be getting worse, much like Royce. So many batters are struggling. Not a terrible night for the pen, I suppose. Clemens has looked better recently. Man is it fun to watch Buck!

I commented about this on a different thread recently. He has potential, but that control is a major concern, especially when its not improving much, even at AAA. He also hasn't really shown the ability to handle a starters work load. The lack of control will generally lead to higher pitch counts early and a worn out bullpen. With that said, The Varland trade was and is a head scratcher for me. At the time, i was quite disappointed it even happened and still am. Unless Rojas is able to clear a lot of hurdles (Please prove me wrong), I see best case scenario is hoping he turns into a Louis Varland and dominates in the pen. I like the potential, but there are countless stories of pitchers with potential that couldn't figure it out

Great game from Ober. I really enjoy good pitching performances. They're even more impressive when you dont have high 90s available. Crafty start had the hitters guessing wrong all night. Its a beautiful thing. Props to Shelton for actually letting him have a chance to finish it and not pulling him after the 2nd time through the order. Buck stealing home and then Jeffers putting one into the 2nd deck!

Im ready to see Culpepper up for his defense alone. But I understand that may be of some detriment to his development. Either way, he will be a welcome addition when he gets the call. As for Lee, the idea of getting him off SS is also exciting. I like what the bat has done so far this year but overall the defense has been bad. I dont know that he has the arm for 3B and he was pretty bad there last year when he played. I think 2B should ultimately be his home, but what does that do to Keaschall? His bat wont play at 1B, especially so far this season. Too many other options for 1B already. Which tells me, whether he can handle it or not, Lee will probably move to 3B whenever Culpepper is called up.

I was happy Jax was traded. Very glad he was removed from the team. Massively overrated with a bad attitude. Getting Taj for him was great. As most have said, I was also upset Varland was traded. Made no sense. Best reliever in the AL now. Rojas has potential, but I dont see his future as a starter. So Best case scenario is we hope he becomes Varland? Absolutely terrible trade. I hope Tait and Abel live up to the hype. Abel was looking decent before injury. I haven't seen Tait play but I've heard he may not have the defense to stick at Catcher? That would be a huge letdown. The other trades are whatever. Expiring contracts for what we could get.

5 weeks isn't much. See where he is offensively at the end of the season. Defensively hes a mess. SS is not where he should be. With his weak arm, I wouldnt even want him at 3rd. Unfortunately 2nd or 1st are likely his best options and we have too many 1B options already. The team is filled with awful defenders and it shows.

Week in Review: Buxton vs. The World
soyouresayingtheresachance replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Really tired of the bullpen retreads. Im really not quite understanding why Funderburk was sent down. Lowest ERA in the pen, I thought. Is he not part of the future? Lewis. It really looked like he was figuring it out before the IL stint. Maybe a reset in St Paul is needed. Although I'm not sure if he would take it well mentally. As stated, there are options to fill in at 3rd. Arcia is looking decent. Culpepper is a possibility.- 19 replies

I like a good pitchers duel. With our bullpen, the game could've ended poorly many times. Good job to them this night for keeping Cleveland off the scoreboard. Fun game. Tomorrow will be interesting with Morris starting. We used almost the entire bullpen tonight. It will be fun to see how it plays out.

Use him as a traditional 1 inning reliever and I bet his number would look even better. What I've noticed is he doesn't usually give up his runs until after hes sent back out. That 1st inning of work is usually clean. Move Sim to the pen for long relief and have Morris do single innings. It will halo the bullpen and the team a ton
-
Sim was looking ok today...until he wasn't. Too many holes on the team and I dont think there are enough capable players available to fill them. Other than Sim, the rotation looks good. Hoping Abel comes back and continues to pitch well. I have to assume Prielipp has pitched himself into the rotation. The bullpen is a disgrace. Funderburk looks decent. Rogers looks like hes coming around. Add in Sim. Acton and Laweryson were looking decent before injury. Maybe its possible to atleast become competent after a couple guys come back. But the defense. 🤦♂️ Its just awful.

Its been a rough start for sure. If I remember correctly, Sim usually starts out slow and gets better later in the year, but this seems different. He just doesn't even look competitive right now. I hope he gets right, either in the rotation or the pen. He's shown he can do well in the past. Maybe a bullpen move will help
-
Wait and see on Ryan. Usually not good when a pitcher takes himself out of a game. Wallner, Keaschall. Caratini, and the bullpen helped spark a win today. Im sure we all saw that coming.

I am really liking what Connor is doing. Quality pitches and outings. Buck with 10 HRs and 14 RBI on the season. Doing great but would really love to see more clutch time hits with runners on base. Garcia and Banda gotta go. I thought maybe Banda was turning it around with his recent velocity increase, but I guess not. Absolutely terrible performance.

I feel like Sim may be headed to the bullpen whenever Abel is ready to come back. Lots of hits again, not enough runs. Other than Bucks HR, its all singles. Quite the power outage so far this season.

The team really only has 2 options with Jeffers. You either extend him or trade him before the deadline. There is absolutely no reason for a team in the Twins situation to be letting any free agents walk at the end of the year. If hes part of the future, sign him so hes here for it. If not, get what you can for him. I'd imagine he'd fetch a very nice reliever in return at minimum. Or you know what the team really needs? Trade him for a left handed outfielder. 🤣 Same for a player like Larnach, too. Trade him and call up the younger guys. I would be very disappointed if any of the pending free agents are still on the team at the end of the season.
-
As other have said, the Varland trade is the one I disliked the most. He was breaking out as dominant here. With him, maybe, just maybe we are able to close out some of these games the bullpen has lost for us. In theory, his success and energy could have potentially elevated the performance of some of the other guys as they feed off each other. Acquiring Roden made zero sense at all and mostly due to injuries, his performance has made this trade seem worse. At this point, we need Rojas to be a very high end starter just to come close to evening this trade out.

Seems like Quick should be moved up to AA soon. Very nice work so far. Diaw having a great game, too. What is going on with the pitchers in AAA? Almost all are failing miserably in their current roles. Maybe we should call over to Long Island one more time and see if Bauer wants to be in St Paul.

Great start from Taj! Absolutely loved that he got to stay in the game even after the run scored in the 7th. The bullpen only needed to get through 2 innings...and still couldn't do it 🤦♂️. Banda actually looked acceptable, his velocity was better. Maybe, maybe if he can keep up with the increased velo he'll put up more zeros. Another good day for Clemens. Seems to be playing much better this week. Another trend i hope continues. The team put up a lot of hits today, but still couldn't push enough runs across. Really a disappointing game we should have won.

Not very inspiring for the future when the "pitcher of the day" only goes 4 innings with 7 base runners. John Klein does not seem to be a starter. Has the potential to be an ok reliever. Looking like some of those AAA bats are waking up. Maybe the big team should try to take advantage of some of that power?
