Question of the week: grade the offseason

I give them a B- because I doubt Falvey/Zoll were given the financial freedom to spend much money. Despite that, they still managed to build a almost league average bullpen, and brought in a few fringe bats. -
Another reminder that there is never too much pitching.

I agree. I think it is a year too early to move Buxton to the corners.

Paredes' bat would be a welcome addition to the twins lineup, and the Twins do seem to match up well with the Astros for a potential trade. One problem that comes up is that much of Paredes power comes from the fact that he is a heavy pull air rate guy who takes advantage of the short porch in Houston. Target field is over 20 feet deeper in left, which would probably take away a lot of Paredes home run potential. Every single one of Paredes' 20 homeruns in 2025 were hit to left field.

I think it was a great return for a reliever that had only really been good for a few months. It just didn't seem that there was any reason to trade him, especially with the many years of club control he had left.

The Pohlads Are Running Out of Scapegoats

So basically the entire group that was running the team in 2022-23 is gone. In 2022 we had J. Pohlad-Levine-Falvey-Baldelli-Correa. Now, since they are all gone, we have T. Pohlad-Zoll- Shelton-Buxton. And yet even with all that change, I am not convinced at all that anything is going to change for the Twins. -
Sounds like a lot of fun, but there are a lot of young pitchers coming up so there are probably better ways to spend at least 15-20 million a year. 20 million dollars invested into the bullpen could go a long ways toward getting a competitive bullpen. Now, of course, if the Twins did sign Framber Valdez, you will not hear a negative comment from me.

The Twins needed to do this. For a bit I was worried that they were just going to leave the bullpen without any additions. I still think they need to bring in another reliever, preferrably a righty to further bolster the bullpen. Evan Phillips and Seranthony Dominguez are names I would target. As it stands right now, my choice for bullpen would be Funderburk, Sands, Orze, Topa, Rogers, Adams, Festa, and Klein.

If they bring in Framber Valdez and/or Eugenio Suarez, there will be no cause for worry about a Taylor Rogers incited frenzy.

Compared to what the Twins have right now any of these names seem attractive. I think to be competitive the Twins need to at least 2 more major league caliber veteran relievers, but I won't get my hopes up. Seranthony Dominguez sound especially interesting.

The Twins infield defense this season is going to be atrocious. Bell/Wagaman/Clemens are all below average defenders, and the rest of the infield is not good defensively either.

In no universe is Josh Bell or Eric Wagaman going to take away at-bats from Buxton. Buxton will be in the lineup almost every day that he is available for.

If Bell does end up being the full time DH there is no reason at all for Trevor Larnach to be on the Opening Day roster. He needs to be traded

It is always nice to get some major league talent for a low level prospect. I don't like DFAing Fitzgerald however. He was decent in his time with the Twins even with limited upside. The Twins really don't have anybody else to back up Lee at short unless they plan on bringing up Culpepper early which I would support. I'm not entirely sure what to think of Wagaman, but it sounds like the Twins now have three major league first basemen instead of just one in Kody Clemens. This likely means that Bell will see a bunch of DH time which even furthers the need to trade Trevor Larnach. I'm intrigued to see how new manager Derek Shelton manages this.

Nice break from a slow off-season for the Twins. I predict Georgia over Texas Tech 34-24 in the championship. Jacob Rodriguez should have won the heisman.
