  1. The fans have been butchering this thing forever. I remember back in the early 90s when Ken Griffey Jr. - who was on the injured list the entire 1st half of the season - was voted in as a starter. Then there was that Royals debacle somewhere in the 2010s. Just a mess.
  2. Huge snub for Ryan, I don't know what more he could have done, frankly. Buxton deserves this as much as anyone. I remember him hitting a HR in Los Angeles the last time he was an All-Star. Twins hitters with multiple All-Star nods: Killebrew, Carew, Puckett, Oliva, Mauer, Morneau, and Knoblauch. This fuels Buxton's resume and cements him as a Twins all-time great. Number 25 will never been worn by another Twin. Congrats Byron on a heckuva year and even bigger props for sticking with it even through all the injuries.
  3. Blaming Buxton - the only guy who hits on this team and who hit a HR earlier - after Jax and Topa blew the game and the rest of the batters went 4-34 is incredibly tone deaf.
  4. What's absurd is thinking that a late inning reliever with a 3.86 ERA is anything but a slightly below-average arm. He couldn't even make half the bullpens in MLB. He's shuttle fodder, at best. I know you might like the guy, think he's a good person, and hope he does well. In fact that's the way I feel about him, too. But he stinks. Stats don't lie.
  5. What are they going to give up for a pinch hitter? Just a couple single-A lottery tickets, just farm fodder. You want pieces that will be useful in the future, you gotta give up someone good.
  6. Is this 6 losses that the Twins can pin directly on Jax this year? Twins would be over .500 if he was in St. Paul instead of MPLS. The guy's worse than Emilio Pagan when he was at rock bottom a couple years ago. Twins will be lucky if they can deal him at the deadline,
  7. Welp there it goes. 2-1 series win vs. the Rays was OK but the Twins certainly needed a sweep to even pretend they were going to be a competitive team moving forward. Daunting series against CHC looming to put more dirt on this team's rapidly cooling grave.
  8. Careful Joe, give up 1 run here and it's over. Remember you've got the worst offense in baseball backing you up here.
  9. Good take and this has always been my stance also. What's Rocco supposed to do? Step into the batter's box?
  10. According to the Marlins PR staff, this was Perez' best day in two years, thanks to the Twins' bats: RHP Eury Pérez recorded a season-high 6.0 scoreless innings and seven strikeouts while allowing just one hit and one walk today vs. Minnesota . It marks his most innings and strikeouts in a start since Aug. 26, 2023 vs. Washington (6.0 IP, 7 K)
  11. 1 hit off a guy with a 6.19 ERA, absolutely embarrassing. Unwatchable. Very bad.
  12. So let me get this straight. You're saying the Twins should keep Ryan, Lopez, Ober, Correa, Buxton, and Lewis. And probably Wallner and Castro. "Everyone else can be had for the right price" - what the heck's left? Nobody's giving up anything for players in the garbage pile of a 40-45 team. Sure, the Twins can sell off Ty France and Trevor Larnach and Harrison Bader, but they're not going to get more than a couple of A-ball lottery tickets for these guys. If you are expecting the Twins to get real prospects who can legitimately make an impact in the league for years to come, you've got to part with your good players.
  13. You have to look at this from the buyer's perspective. If you're a 1st or 2nd place team, are you desperate for a Matt Wallner or a Trevor Larnach to bat in the heart of your order right now? Probably not. They'd likely be platoon players or pinch hitters. Twins won't see much return for that. I don't think anyone's buying Royce Lewis, nor should the Twins sell when he's at rock bottom in his career. The Twins are really going to get a haul for Buxton or Joe Ryan, and maybe something for Duran. If you want a true rebuild, those are the guys are going to help with the foundation. The rest of the team is just window dressing.
  14. The offense is truly uninspiring. While it's nice to have a chance at a .500 road trip, the Twins have got to be one of the worst teams to watch in MLB. It's been this way for almost 2 years now. SWR taking his opportunity but gee, the guy has pitched more than 5 innings ONCE all year. I don't get it. He threw 75 pitches last night. A couple weeks ago he got pulled after 5 innings after throwing just 53 pitches. Both pitchers the Twins faced so far in this series have been very hittable. To score just 2 runs in 2 games is an embarrassment. The Twins face Eury Perez and his 6.15 ERA this afternoon. They gonna get shut out?
  15. I'd hate to send Ryan away. Then again, he'd bring a much needed haul. Twins need BATS - they need to listen to offers. Of course, in a similar the Twins got Austin Martin and SWR for Jose Berrios and those very highly ranked prospects seem to have fizzled out as borderline MLB-ers. Twins don't need to get a team's #5 prospect for Ryan. They need to get the clear-cut #1 guy, like an Elly de La Cruz type who is going to change the game for years to come. Remember that the Twins got Ryan for peanuts, so I feel they should trade him and take a gamble.
  16. In a lost season, the Twins are just being conservative and not going to press Ryan, it seems. He's the only healthy starter left, he's the franchise's most valuable asset, the season is over and they're putting the brakes on.
  17. Two hits against a very average NL starting pitcher coming into the game with a 4.00 ERA. Unwatchable garbage.
  18. Might as well be down 8-0. This team is probably going to finish among the worst 5 teams in baseball before it's all said and done. Woof.
  19. Cool. Not only is this a fun way for fans to see upcoming talent, this is a great way for MLB to basically allow clubs to open their showrooms as the trading deadline opens. Detroit's going to be looking for help, and their best three prospects are right here on display for other teams to kick the tires on. Twins to appear in the Futures Game in recent years include Alex Kirilloff, Spencer Steer, Matt Wallner and David Festa. Culpepper is certainly one to watch.
  20. I mean, the season is lost at this point so the Twins have a few options, all of which have been discussed here. Here they are in order of my preference. 1. Just keep rolling him out there. Let him work it out and eat innings. 2. Give him a break by putting him on the IL. I don't really like this because he's not really injured. He's just struggling. 3. Send 'em down. This could be mentally deflating for the guy, or it could be a major motivator. It seems the most risky option, but maybe has the highest upside.
  21. Stick a fork in 2025, boys. At least they kinda kept things competitive until July 1. Aside from that 12 game winning streak it hasn't been much fun to be honest, as watching a below-average team with no heart is always kind of a drag. Hope Buxton can have a career season. Keep Ryan and sell the rest.
  22. When a pitcher performs poorly, why does everyone jump in and say "he should be on the IL"? Why not take the Occam's Razor approach and simply conclude that he's not very good? Pablo Lopez needs to be on the IL. He had an injury. "Injured List". Ober just needs to pitch better and make adjustments, or else start looking at condos in Pittsburgh or Colorado where he'll be pitching for the final two years of his career. Tigers can for all intents and purposes bury the Twins tonight. Most say the season's already over, but I'm an optimist. I think the Twins can keep a dim hope alive by winning tonight on national TV.
  23. Why does Rocco leave Jax in here? Don't you throw the kitchen sink at this game to at least escape with 1 in Detroit? Why play for tomorrow when today isn't guaranteed?
  24. A loss here pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for the season. This would be a season-ending gut punch.
